Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: «He aquí que yo traigo sobre este lugar una desgracia, que a todo el que la oyere le zumbarán los oídos. | 3 You shall say, 'Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon this place that the ears of every one who hears of it will tingle. |
| 4 Porque me han dejado, han hecho extraño este lugar y han incensado en él a otros dioses que ni ellos ni sus padres conocían. Los reyes de Judá han llenado este lugar de sangre de inocentes, | 4 Because the people have forsaken me, and have profaned this place by burning incense in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, |
| 5 y han construido los altos de Baal para quemar a sus hijos en el fuego, en holocausto a Baal, - lo que no les mandé ni les dije ni me pasó por las mientes -. | 5 and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind; |
| 6 Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días - oráculo de Yahveh - en que no se hablará más de Tofet ni del valle de Ben Hinnom, sino del “Valle de la Matanza”. | 6 therefore, behold, days are coming, says the LORD, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter. |
| 7 Vaciaré la prudencia de Judá y Jerusalén a causa de este lugar: les haré caer a espada ante sus enemigos por mano de los que busquen su muerte; daré sus cadáveres por comida a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra, | 7 And in this place I will make void the plans of Judah and Jerusalem, and will cause their people to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies for food to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth. |
| 8 y convertiré esta ciudad en desolación y en rechifla: todo el que pase a su vera se quedará atónito y silbará en vista de sus heridas. | 8 And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at; every one who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters. |
| 9 Les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas, y comerán cada uno la carne de su prójimo, en el aprieto y la estrechez con que les estrecharán sus enemigos y los que busquen su muerte». | 9 And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and every one shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.' |

| 11 y les dices: Así dice Yahveh Sebaot: «Asimismo quebrantaré yo a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien rompe un cacharro de alfarería, que ya no tiene arreglo. «Y se harán enterramientos en Tófet, hasta que falte sitio para enterrar. | 11 and shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: So will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, so that it can never be mended. Men shall bury in Topheth because there will be no place else to bury. |
| 12 Así haré con este lugar - oráculo de Yahveh - y con sus habitantes, hasta dejar a esta ciudad lo mismo que Tófet, | 12 Thus will I do to this place, says the LORD, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. |
| 13 y que sean las casas de Jerusalén y las de los reyes de Judá como el lugar de Tófet: una inmundicia; todas las casas en cuyas azoteas incensaron a toda la tropa celeste y libaron libación a otros dioses». | 13 The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah--all the houses upon whose roofs incense has been burned to all the host of heaven, and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods--shall be defiled like the place of Topheth.'" |
| 14 Partió Jeremías de Tófet a donde le había enviado Yahveh a profetizar y, parándose en el atrio de la Casa de Yahveh, dijo a todo el pueblo: | 14 Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the LORD's house, and said to all the people: |
| 15 «Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo traigo a esta ciudad y a todos sus aledaños toda la calamidad que he pronunciado contra ella, porque ha atiesado su cerviz, desoyendo mis palabras». | 15 "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their neck, refusing to hear my words." |
