Génesis 17

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cuando Abram tenía 99 años, se le apareció Yahveh y le dijo: «Yo soy El Sadday, anda en mi presencia y sé perfecto.	1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to him and said, 'I am El Shaddai. Live inmy presence, be perfect,
2 Yo establezco mi alianza entre nosotros dos, y te multiplicaré sobremanera.»	2 and I shal grant a covenant between myself and you, and make you very numerous.'
3 Cayó Abram rostro en tierra, y Dios le habló así:	3 And Abram bowed to the ground. God spoke to him as follows,
4 «Por mi parte he aquí mi alianza contigo: serás padre de una muchedumbre de pueblos.	4 'For my part, this is my covenant with you: you wil become the father of many nations.
5 No te llamarás más Abram, sino que tu nombre será Abraham, pues padre de muchedumbre de pueblos te he constituido.	5 And you are no longer to be cal ed Abram; your name is to be Abraham, for I am making you father ofmany nations.
6 Te haré fecundo sobremanera, te convertiré en pueblos, y reyes saldrán de ti.	6 I shal make you exceedingly fertile. I shall make you into nations, and your issue wil be kings.
7 Y estableceré mi alianza entre nosotros dos, y con tu descendencia después de ti, de generación en generación: una alianza eterna, de ser yo el Dios tuyo y el de tu posteridad.	7 And I shal maintain my covenant between myself and you, and your descendants after you,generation after generation, as a covenant in perpetuity, to be your God and the God of your descendants afteryou.
8 Yo te daré a ti y a tu posteridad la tierra en que andas como peregrino, todo el país de Canaán, en posesión perpetua, y yo seré el Dios de los tuyos.»	8 And to you and to your descendants after you, I shal give the country where you are now immigrants,the entire land of Canaan, to own in perpetuity. And I shal be their God.'
9 Dijo Dios a Abraham: «Guarda, pues, mi alianza, tú y tu posteridad, de generación en generación.	9 God further said to Abraham, 'You for your part must keep my covenant, you and your descendantsafter you, generation after generation.
10 Esta es mi alianza que habéis de guardar entre yo y vosotros - también tu posteridad -: Todos vuestros varones serán circuncidados.	10 This is my covenant which you must keep between myself and you, and your descendants after you:every one of your males must be circumcised.
11 Os circuncidaréis la carne del prepucio, y eso será la señal de la alianza entre yo y vosotros.	11 You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and that wil be the sign of the covenant betweenmyself and you.
12 A los ocho días será circuncidado entre vosotros todo varón, de generación en generación, tanto el nacido en casa como el comprado con dinero a cualquier extraño que no sea de tu raza.	12 As soon as he is eight days old, every one of your males, generation after generation, must becircumcised, including slaves born within the household or bought from a foreigner not of your descent.
13 Deben ser circuncidados el nacido en tu casa y el comprado con tu dinero, de modo que mi alianza esté en vuestra carne como alianza eterna.	13 Whether born within the household or bought, they must be circumcised. My covenant must bemarked in your flesh as a covenant in perpetuity.
14 El incircunciso, el varón a quien no se le circuncide la carne de su prepucio, ese tal será borrado de entre los suyos por haber violado mi alianza.	14 The uncircumcised male, whose foreskin has not been circumcised -- that person must be cut offfrom his people: he has broken my covenant.'
15 Dijo Dios a Abraham: «A Saray, tu mujer, no la llamarás más Saray, sino que su nombre será Sara.	15 Furthermore God said to Abraham, 'As regards your wife Sarai, you must not cal her Sarai, butSarah.
16 Yo la bendeciré, y de ella también te daré un hijo. La bendeciré, y se convertirá en naciones; reyes de pueblos procederán de ella.»	16 I shal bless her and moreover give you a son by her. I shal bless her and she will become nations:kings of peoples wil issue from her.'
17 Abraham cayó rostro en tierra y se echó a reír, diciendo en su interior: ¿A un hombre de cien años va a nacerle un hijo?, ¿y Sara, a sus noventa años, va a dar a luz?»	17 Abraham bowed to the ground, and he laughed, thinking to himself, 'Is a child to be born to a manone hundred years old, and wil Sarah have a child at the age of ninety?'
18 Y dijo Abraham a Dios: «¡Si al menos Ismael viviera en tu presencia!»	18 Abraham said to God, 'May Ishmael live in your presence! That wil be enough!'
19 Respondió Dios: «Sí, pero Sara tu mujer te dará a luz un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre Isaac. Yo estableceré mi alianza con él, una alianza eterna, de ser el Dios suyo y el de su posteridad.	19 But God replied, 'Yes, your wife Sarah will bear you a son whom you must name Isaac. And I shalmaintain my covenant with him, a covenant in perpetuity, to be his God and the God of his descendants afterhim.
20 En cuanto a Ismael, también te he escuchado: «He aquí que le bendigo, le hago fecundo y le haré crecer sobremanera. Doce príncipes engendrará, y haré de él un gran pueblo.	20 For Ishmael too I grant you your request. I hereby bless him and wil make him fruitful andexceedingly numerous. He wil be the father of twelve princes, and I shal make him into a great nation.
21 Pero mi alianza la estableceré con Isaac, el que Sara te dará a luz el año que viene por este tiempo.»	21 But my covenant I shall maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah wil bear you at this time next year.'
22 Y después de hablar con él, subió Dios dejando a Abraham.	22 When he had finished speaking to Abraham, God went up from him.
23 Tomó entonces Abraham a su hijo Ismael, a todos los nacidos en su casa y a todos los comprados con su dinero - a todos los varones de la casa de Abraham - y aquel mismo día les circuncidó la carne del prepucio, como Dios le había mandado.	23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael, al the slaves born in his household or whom he had bought, inshort al the males among the people of Abraham's household, and circumcised their foreskins that same day,as God had said to him.
24 Tenía Abraham 99 años cuando circuncidó la carne de su prepucio.	24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when his foreskin was circumcised.
25 Ismael, su hijo, era de trece años cuando se le circuncidó la carne de su prepucio.	25 Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when his foreskin was circumcised.
26 El mismo día fueron circuncidados Abraham y su hijo Ismael.	26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the very same day,
27 Y todos los varones de su casa, los nacidos en su casa, y los comprados a extraños por dinero, fueron circuncidados juntamente con él.	27 and al the men of his household, those born in the household and those bought from foreigners,were circumcised with him.
