1 En el principio creó Dios los cielos y la tierra.	1 In the beginning, God created heaven and earth.
2 La tierra era caos y confusión y oscuridad por encima del abismo, y un viento de Dios aleteaba por encima de las aguas.	2 But the earth was empty and unoccupied, and darknesses were over the face of the abyss; and so the Spirit of God was brought over the waters.
3 Dijo Dios: «Haya luz», y hubo luz.	3 And God said, “Let there be light.” And light became.
4 Vio Dios que la luz estaba bien, y apartó Dios la luz de la oscuridad;	4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and so he divided the light from the darknesses.
5 y llamó Dios a la luz «día», y a la oscuridad la llamó «noche». Y atardeció y amaneció: día primero.	5 And he called the light, ‘Day,’ and the darknesses, ‘Night.’ And it became evening and morning, one day.
6 Dijo Dios: «Haya un firmamento por en medio de las aguas, que las aparte unas de otras.»	6 God also said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide waters from waters.”
7 E hizo Dios el firmamento; y apartó las aguas de por debajo del firmamento, de las aguas de por encima del firmamento. Y así fue.	7 And God made a firmament, and he divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament. And so it became.
8 Y llamó Dios al firmamento «cielos». Y atardeció y amaneció: día segundo.	8 And God called the firmament ‘Heaven.’ And it became evening and morning, the second day.
9 Dijo Dios: «Acumúlense las aguas de por debajo del firmamento en un solo conjunto, y déjese ver lo seco»; y así fue.	9 Truly God said: “Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together into one place; and let the dry land appear.” And so it became.
10 Y llamó Dios a lo seco «tierra», y al conjunto de las aguas lo llamó «mares»; y vio Dios que estaba bien.	10 And God called the dry land, ‘Earth,’ and he called the gathering of the waters, ‘Seas.’ And God saw that it was good.
11 Dijo Dios: «Produzca la tierra vegetación: hierbas que den semillas y árboles frutales que den fruto, de su especie, con su semilla dentro, sobre la tierra.» Y así fue.	11 And he said, “Let the land spring forth green plants, both those producing seed, and fruit-bearing trees, producing fruit according to their kind, whose seed is within itself, over all the earth.” And so it became.
12 La tierra produjo vegetación: hierbas que dan semilla, por sus especies, y árboles que dan fruto con la semilla dentro, por sus especies; y vio Dios que estaban bien.	12 And the land brought forth green plants, both those producing seed, according to their kind, and trees producing fruit, with each having its own way of sowing, according to its species. And God saw that it was good.
13 Y atardeció y amaneció: día tercero.	13 And it became evening and the morning, the third day.
14 Dijo Dios: «Haya luceros en el firmamento celeste, para apartar el día de la noche, y valgan de señales para solemnidades, días y años;	14 Then God said: “Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven. And let them divide day from night, and let them become signs, both of the seasons, and of the days and years.
15 y valgan de luceros en el firmamento celeste para alumbrar sobre la tierra.» Y así fue.	15 Let them shine in the firmament of heaven and illuminate the earth.” And so it became.
16 Hizo Dios los dos luceros mayores; el lucero grande para el dominio del día, y el lucero pequeño para el dominio de la noche, y las estrellas;	16 And God made two great lights: a greater light, to rule over the day, and a lesser light, to rule over the night, along with the stars.
17 y púsolos Dios en el firmamento celeste para alumbrar sobre la tierra,	17 And he set them in the firmament of heaven, to give light over all the earth,
18 y para dominar en el día y en la noche, y para apartar la luz de la oscuridad; y vio Dios que estaba bien.	18 and to rule over the day as well as the night, and to divide light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 Y atardeció y amaneció: día cuarto.	19 And it became evening and morning, the fourth day.
20 Dijo Dios: «Bullan las aguas de animales vivientes, y aves revoloteen sobre la tierra contra el firmamento celeste.»	20 And then God said, “Let the waters produce animals with a living soul, and flying creatures above the earth, under the firmament of heaven.”
21 Y creó Dios los grandes monstruos marinos y todo animal viviente, los que serpean, de los que bullen las aguas por sus especies, y todas las aves aladas por sus especies; y vio Dios que estaba bien;	21 And God created the great sea creatures, and everything with a living soul and the ability to move that the waters produced, according to their species, and all the flying creatures, according to their kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 y bendíjolos Dios diciendo: «sed fecundos y multiplicaos, y henchid las aguas en los mares, y las aves crezcan en la tierra.»	22 And he blessed them, saying: “Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea. And let the birds be multiplied above the land.”
23 Y atardeció y amaneció: día quinto.	23 And it became evening and morning, the fifth day.
24 Dijo Dios: «Produzca la tierra animales vivientes de cada especie: bestias, sierpes y alimañas terrestres de cada especie.» Y así fue.	24 God also said, “Let the land produce living souls in their kind: cattle, and animals, and wild beasts of the earth, according to their species.” And so it became.
25 Hizo Dios las alimañas terrestres de cada especie, y las bestias de cada especie, y toda sierpe del suelo de cada especie: y vio Dios que estaba bien.	25 And God made the wild beasts of the earth according to their species, and the cattle, and every animal on the land, according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Y dijo Dios: «Hagamos al ser humano a nuestra imagen, como semejanza nuestra, y manden en los peces del mar y en las aves de los cielos, y en las bestias y en todas las alimañas terrestres, y en todas las sierpes que serpean por la tierra.	26 And he said: “Let us make Man to our image and likeness. And let him rule over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and the wild beasts, and the entire earth, and every animal that moves on the earth.”
27 Creó, pues, Dios al ser humano a imagen suya, a imagen de Dios le creó, macho y hembra los creó.	27 And God created man to his own image; to the image of God he created him; male and female, he created them.
28 Y bendíjolos Dios, y díjoles Dios: «Sed fecundos y multiplicaos y henchid la tierra y sometedla; mandad en los peces del mar y en las aves de los cielos y en todo animal que serpea sobre la tierra.»	28 And God blessed them, and he said, “Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
29 Dijo Dios: «Ved que os he dado toda hierba de semilla que existe sobre la haz de toda la tierra, así como todo árbol que lleva fruto de semilla; para vosotros será de alimento.	29 And God said: “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant upon the earth, and all the trees that have in themselves the ability to sow their own kind, to be food for you,
30 Y a todo animal terrestre, y a toda ave de los cielos y a toda sierpe de sobre la tierra, animada de vida, toda la hierba verde les doy de alimento.» Y así fue.	30 and for all the animals of the land, and for all the flying things of the air, and for everything that moves upon the earth and in which there is a living soul, so that they may have these on which to feed.” And so it became.
31 Vio Dios cuanto había hecho, y todo estaba muy bien. Y atardecío y amaneció: día sexto.	31 And God saw everything that he had made. And they were very good. And it became evening and morning, the sixth day.
