1 So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander.	1 Así, pues, apartaos de toda maldad, de toda falsedad, hipocresía y envidia y de toda maledicencia.
2 Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation;	2 Como niños recién nacidos, ansiad la leche espiritual, no adulterada, para que con ella vayáis progresando en la salvación,
3 for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.	3 ya que habéis gustado qué bueno es el Señor.
4 Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God's sight chosen and precious;	4 Acercándoos a él, piedra viva rechazada por los hombres, pero elegida y preciosa para Dios,
5 and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.	5 también vosotros, como piedras vivas, entráis en la construcción de una casa espiritual para un sacerdocio santo, a fin de ofrecer sacrificios espirituales agradables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.
6 For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."	6 Por eso se dice en la Escritura: Mira, pongo en Sión una piedra angular, elegida y preciosa; quien cree en ella no queda defraudado.
7 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,"	7 Para vosotros, pues, los creyentes, ella es el honor, pero para los incrédulos la piedra que desecharon los arquitectos es ahora la piedra angular,
8 and "A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall"; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.	8 y también piedra de choque y roca de estrellarse; y ellos chocan al despreciar la palabra. A eso precisamente estaban expuestos.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.	9 Vosotros, en cambio, sois un linaje elegido, un sacerdocio real, una nación santa, un pueblo adquirido por Dios para que anunciéis las proezas del que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz maravillosa.
10 Once you were no people but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.	10 Los que antes erais no-pueblo, ahora sois pueblo de Dios, los que antes erais no compadecidos, ahora sois objeto de compasión.
11 Beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.	11 Queridos míos, como a extranjeros y peregrinos, os hago una llamada a que os apartéis de esos bajos deseos que combaten contra el alma.
12 Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.	12 Que vuestra conducta entre los gentiles sea buena, para que, cuando os calumnien como si fuerais malhechores, fijándose en vuestras buenas obras, den gloria a Dios el día de su venida.
13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,	13 Someteos por causa del Señor a toda criatura humana, lo mismo al rey, como soberano, que a los gobernadores,
14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.	14 que son como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y aprobación, en cambio, de los que hacen el bien.
15 For it is God's will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.	15 Porque esa es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo el bien tapéis la boca a la estupidez de los hombres ignorantes.
16 Live as free men, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God.	16 Como personas libres, es decir, no usando la libertad como tapadera para el mal, sino como siervos de Dios,
17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.	17 mostrad estima hacia todos, amad a la comunidad fraternal, temed a Dios, mostrad estima hacia el rey.
18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to the kind and gentle but also to the overbearing.	18 Que los criados estén, con todo temor, a disposición de los amos, no solo de los buenos y comprensivos, sino también de los retorcidos.
19 For one is approved if, mindful of God, he endures pain while suffering unjustly.	19 Pues eso es realmente una gracia: que, por consideración a Dios, se soporte el dolor de sufrir injustamente.
20 For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval.	20 Porque ¿qué mérito tiene que aguantéis cuando os pegan por portaros mal? En cambio, que aguantéis cuando sufrís por hacer el bien, eso es una gracia de parte de Dios.
21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.	21 Pues para esto habéis sido llamados, | porque también Cristo padeció por vosotros, | dejándoos un ejemplo para que sigáis sus huellas.
22 He committed no sin; no guile was found on his lips.	22 Él no cometió pecado | ni encontraron engaño en su boca.
23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly.	23 Él no devolvía el insulto cuando lo insultaban; | sufriendo no profería amenazas; | sino que se entregaba al que juzga rectamente.
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.	24 Él llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo hasta el leño, | para que, muertos a los pecados, vivamos para la justicia. | Con sus heridas fuisteis curados.
25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.	25 Pues andabais errantes como ovejas, | pero ahora os habéis convertido | al pastor y guardián de vuestras almas.
