1 Peter 2

1 So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander.	1 Deposta quindi ogni malizia e ogni frode, e le finzioni e le invidie, ed ogni sorta di maldicenza
2 Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation;	2 come bambini di fresco nati bramate il latte spirituale sincero, affinchè per esso cresciate in salute,
3 for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.	3 se avete gustato davvero com'è dolce il Signore.
4 Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God's sight chosen and precious;	4 Al quale, pietra viva, scartata dagli uomini, ma eletta e onorata da Dio, accostandovi,
5 and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.	5 siete anche voi come pietre vive edificate sopra di lui, (per essere) casa spirituale, sacerdozio santo, per offrire vittime spirituali, gradite a Dio per Gesù Cristo.
6 For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."	6 Perciò è detto nella Scrittura: Ecco, io pongo in Sion una pietra principale, angolare, eletta, preziosa, e chi crederà in lei non resterà confuso.
7 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,"	7 Per voi che credete è di onore, ma per quelli che non credono « la pietra scartata dai costruttori è divenuta testata dell'angolo »,
8 and "A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall"; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.	8 è diventata pietra d'inciampo, pietra di scandalo; perchè urtano nella parola e non credono, mentre a questo erari destinati.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.	9 Ma voi siete la stirpe eletta, il regale sacerdozio, la nazione santa, il popolo di acquisto, affinchè esaltiate le virtù di Colui che dalle tenebre vi chiamò nell'ammirabile sua luce.
10 Once you were no people but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.	10 Voi una volta non popolo, ora siete popolo di Dio; voi che non avevate ottenuto misericordia, ora invece avete ottenuto misericordia.
11 Beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.	11 Carissimi, vi scongiuro a guardarvi, come forestieri e pellegrini, dai desideri carnali che fan guerra all'anima,
12 Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.	12 e a vivere bene tra le Genti, affinchè, invece di calunniarvi, come se foste dei malfattori, giudicandovi dalle buone opere, glorifichino Dio nel giorno in cui li visiterà.
13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,	13 State adunque, per riguardo a Dio, soggetti ad ogni autorità umana: al re come a sovrano, ai governatori
14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.	14 come a suoi delegati per giustiziare i malfattori ed onorare i buoni;
15 For it is God's will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.	15 perchè questa è la volontà di Dio, che facendo il bene turiate la bocca all'ignoranza degli uomini stolti.
16 Live as free men, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God.	16 Vivete pur da liberi, non facendo però della libertà un manto per coprire la malizia, ma come servi di Dio.
17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.	17 Rispettate tutti; amate i fratelli; temete Dio, onorate il re.
18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to the kind and gentle but also to the overbearing.	18 Servi, siate con ogni rispetto soggetti ai vostri padroni, non soltanto ai buoni e dolci, ma anche agli intrattabili.
19 For one is approved if, mindful of God, he endures pain while suffering unjustly.	19 Perchè è una grazia il sopportare, per riguardo a Dio, molestie e soffrire ingiustamente.
20 For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval.	20 Infatti qual gloria c'è a patire puniti del male fatto? Se invece dopo aver fatto del bene voi soffrite con pazienza, questa è una grazia dinanzi a Dio.
21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.	21 E a questo appunto siete stati chiamati, perchè anche Cristo ha sofferto per noi, lasciandovi l'esempio, affinchè ne seguiate le orme.
22 He committed no sin; no guile was found on his lips.	22 Egli, che non commise peccato, nè ebbe mai frode sulla bocca,
23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly.	23 venendo maledetto non malediceva, strapazzato non minacciava, si rimetteva nelle mani di chi ingiusta mente lo giudicava:
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.	24 Egli stesso portò i nostri peccati nel suo corpo sopra la croce, affinchè, morti al peccato, viviamo alla giustizia, e voi siete stati sanati dalle sue piaghe.
25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.	25 Eravate infatti come pecore erranti, ma ora siete stati fatti ritornare al pastore e vescovo delle anime vostre.
