Jeremiah 46

1 The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.	1 Quod factum est verbum Domini ad Ieremiam prophetam contra gentes.
2 About Egypt. Concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at Carchemish and which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:	2 Ad Aegyptum. Adversum exercitum pharaonis Nechao regis Aegypti, qui erat iuxta fluviumEuphraten in Charchamis, quem percussit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis in quartoanno Ioachim filii Iosiae regis Iudae.
3 "Prepare buckler and shield, and advance for battle!	3 “ Praeparate scutum et clipeum et procedite ad bellum.
4 Harness the horses; mount, O horsemen! Take your stations with your helmets, polish your spears, put on your coats of mail!	4 Iungite equos et ascendite, equites; state in galeis, polite lanceas, induite vos loricis.
5 Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and have turned backward. Their warriors are beaten down, and have fled in haste; they look not back--terror on every side! says the LORD.	5 Quid igitur? Vidi ipsos pavidos et terga vertentes, fortes eorum caesos; fugerunt conciti nec respexerunt: terror undique, ait Dominus.
6 The swift cannot flee away, nor the warrior escape; in the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen.	6 Non fugiat velox, nec salvari se putet fortis; ad aquilonem iuxta flumen Euphraten victi sunt et ruerunt.
7 "Who is this, rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge?	7 Quis est iste, qui quasi Nilus ascendit, et veluti fluviorum intumescunt gurgites eius?
8 Egypt rises like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge. He said, I will rise, I will cover the earth, I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.	8 Aegyptus Nili instar ascendit, et velut flumina moventur fluctus eius, et dixit: “Ascendens operiam terram, perdam civitatem et habitatores eius”.
9 Advance, O horses, and rage, O chariots! Let the warriors go forth: men of Ethiopia and Put who handle the shield, men of Lud, skilled in handling the bow.	9 Ascendite, equi, et irruite, currus; et procedant fortes, Aethiopia et Phut tenentes scutum et Ludii arripientes et iacientes sagittas.
10 That day is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. The sword shall devour and be sated, and drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord GOD of hosts holds a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.	10 Dies autem ille Domini, Dei exercituum, dies ultionis, ut sumat vindictam de inimicis suis: devorat gladius, et saturatur, et inebriatur sanguine eorum; victima enim Domini, Dei exercituum, in terra aquilonis iuxta flumen Euphraten.
11 Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt! In vain you have used many medicines; there is no healing for you.	11 Ascende in Galaad et tolle resinam, virgo filia Aegypti; frustra multiplicas medicamina, tibi vero cicatrix non obducitur.
12 The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for warrior has stumbled against warrior; they have both fallen together."	12 Audierunt gentes ignominiam tuam, et ululatus tuus replevit terram, quia fortis impegit in fortem, et ambo pariter conciderunt ”.
13 The word which the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon to smite the land of Egypt:	13 Verbum, quod locutus est Dominus ad Ieremiam prophetam super eo quod veniretNabuchodonosor rex Babylonis percussurus terram Aegypti.
14 "Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol; proclaim in Memphis and Tahpanhes; Say, 'Stand ready and be prepared, for the sword shall devour round about you.'	14 “ Annuntiate Aegypto et auditum facite in Magdolo, et resonet in Memphi et in Taphnis, dicite: “Sta et praepara te, quia devoravit gladius ea, quae per circuitum tuum sunt”.
15 Why has Apis fled? Why did not your bull stand? Because the LORD thrust him down.	15 Quare deiectus est fortis tuus? Non stetit, quoniam Dominus subvertit eum.
16 Your multitude stumbled and fell, and they said one to another, 'Arise, and let us go back to our own people and to the land of our birth, because of the sword of the oppressor.'	16 Multiplicavit ruentes, ceciditque vir ad proximum suum, et dixerunt: “Surge, et revertamur ad populum nostrum et ad terram nativitatis nostrae, a facie gladii saevientis”.
17 Call the name of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, 'Noisy one who lets the hour go by.'	17 Vocate nomen pharaonis regis Aegypti: Tumultum, qui praetermisit tempus opportunum.
18 "As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come.	18 Vivo ego, inquit rex, Dominus exercituum nomen eius, quoniam sicut Thabor in montibus et sicut Carmelus ad mare veniet.
19 Prepare yourselves baggage for exile, O inhabitants of Egypt! For Memphis shall become a waste, a ruin, without inhabitant.	19 Vasa transmigrationis fac tibi, habitatrix filia Aegypti, quia Memphis in solitudinem erit et destruetur et inhabitabilis erit.
20 "A beautiful heifer is Egypt, but a gadfly from the north has come upon her.	20 Vitula elegans atque formosa Aegyptus, stimulus ab aquilone venit ei.
21 Even her hired soldiers in her midst are like fatted calves; yea, they have turned and fled together, they did not stand; for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment.	21 Mercennarii quoque eius, qui versabantur in medio eius quasi vituli saginati, versi sunt et fugerunt simul nec stare potuerunt, quia dies interfectionis eorum venit super eos, tempus visitationis eorum.
22 "She makes a sound like a serpent gliding away; for her enemies march in force, and come against her with axes, like those who fell trees.	22 Vox eius quasi serpentis sibilantis, quoniam cum exercitu properabunt et cum securibus venient ei, quasi caedentes ligna.
23 They shall cut down her forest, says the LORD, though it is impenetrable, because they are more numerous than locusts; they are without number.	23 Succiderunt saltum eius, ait Dominus, qui supputari non potest; multiplicati sunt enim super locustas, et non est eis numerus.
24 The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame, she shall be delivered into the hand of a people from the north."	24 Confusa est filia Aegypti et tradita in manu populi aquilonis ”.
25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, said: "Behold, I am bringing punishment upon Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him.	25 Dixit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israel: “ Ecce ego visitabo super Amon de Noet super pharaonem et super Aegyptum et super deos eius et super reges eius etsuper pharaonem et super eos, qui confidunt in eo;
26 I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their life, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Afterward Egypt shall be inhabited as in the days of old, says the LORD.	26 et dabo eos in manuquaerentium animam eorum et in manu Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis et in manuservorum eius; et post haec habitabitur sicut diebus pristinis, ait Dominus.
27 "But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for lo, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid.	27 Et tu ne timeas, serve meus Iacob, et ne paveas, Israel, quia ecce ego salvum te faciam de longinquo et semen tuum de terra captivitatis eorum; et revertetur Iacob et requiescet, securus erit, et non erit qui exterreat eum.
28 Fear not, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD, for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will chasten you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished."	28 Et tu noli timere, serve meus Iacob, ait Dominus, quia tecum ego sum, quia ego consumam cunctas gentes, ad quas eieci te; te vero non consumam, sed castigabo te in iudicio nec quasi innocenti parcam tibi ”.
