Sirach 33

1 No evil will befall the man who fears the Lord, but in trial he will deliver him again and again.	1 A chi teme Jahvè non capitano mali; se egli è provato, sarà di nuovo liberato.
2 A wise man will not hate the law, but he who is hypocritical about it is like a boat in a storm.	2 Chi odia la legge non diventa sapiente; viene scosso come nave nella tempesta.
3 A man of understanding will trust in the law; for him the law is as dependable as an inquiry by means of Urim.	3 Un uomo prudente intende la legge di Dio e la legge per lui è come un oracolo manifesto.
4 Prepare what to say, and thus you will be heard; bind together your instruction, and make your answer.	4 Prepara il discorso e così sarai ascoltato; raccogli norme disciplinari e allora rispondi.
5 The heart of a fool is like a cart wheel, and his thoughts like a turning axle.	5 L’intimo dello stolto è come la ruota di un carro; il pensiero di lui è come asse che gira.
6 A stallion is like a mocking friend; he neighs under every one who sits on him.	6 Uno stallone: tale è l’affezione dello stolto; nitrisce sotto chiunque gli sale in groppa.
7 Why is any day better than another, when all the daylight in the year is from the sun?	7 Che cosa ha un giorno più di un altro se, per tutto l’anno, la luce del giorno proviene dal sole?
8 By the Lord's decision they were distinguished, and he appointed the different seasons and feasts;	8 Jahvè nella sua sapienza li distingue variando il tempo e le feste,
9 some of them he exalted and hallowed, and some of them he made ordinary days.	9 esaltandone alcuni e santificandoli, ponendo altri nel computo di giorni comuni.
10 All men are from the ground, and Adam was created of the dust.	10 Anche gli uomini: tutti vengono dal suolo e Adamo fu preso dalla terra;
11 In the fulness of his knowledge the Lord distinguished them and appointed their different ways;	11 ma Jahvè grandemente sapiente li differenziò e variò le loro vie.
12 some of them he blessed and exalted, and some of them he made holy and brought near to himself; but some of them he cursed and brought low, and he turned them out of their place.	12 Di essi alcuni benedisse ed esaltò, altri santificò e riservò per sé; altri, poi, maledisse e li umiliò ed espulse dalle loro sedi.
13 As clay in the hand of the potter-- for all his ways are as he pleases-- so men are in the hand of him who made them, to give them as he decides.	13 Come creta in mano al vasaio, il quale la tratta come vuole; così l’uomo in mano al suo creatore, quando questi gli aggiudica una sorte.
14 Good is the opposite of evil, and life the opposite of death; so the sinner is the opposite of the godly.	14 Al male sta di fronte il bene e di fronte alla morte sta la vita; ugualmente, di fronte all’uomo pio c’è il peccatore.
15 Look upon all the works of the Most High; they likewise are in pairs, one the opposite of the other.	15 Così osserva tutte le opere dell’Altissimo: stanno a due a due, l’una in faccia all’altra.
16 I was the last on watch; I was like one who gleans after the grape-gatherers; by the blessing of the Lord I excelled, and like a grape-gatherer I filled my wine press.	16 Quanto a me, io sono l’ultimo venuto come chi raccoglie spighe dietro chi miete;
17 Consider that I have not labored for myself alone, but for all who seek instruction.	17 sono venuto con la divina benedizione e, quale vendemmiatore, ho riempito il torchio.
18 Hear me, you who are great among the people, and you leaders of the congregation, hearken.	18 Ponete mente che non solo ho lavorato per me ma per tutti coloro che desiderano istruirsi.
19 To son or wife, to brother or friend, do not give power over yourself, as long as you live; and do not give your property to another, lest you change your mind and must ask for it.	19 Ascoltatemi, capi del popolo; voi che guidate la comunità, state con l’orecchio teso.
20 While you are still alive and have breath in you, do not let any one take your place.	20 AI figlio o alla moglie, al fratello o all’amico non dare potestà su di te mentre vivi; non dare ad altri i tuoi averi, affinché, se cambi parere, tu non li richieda.
21 For it is better that your children should ask from you than that you should look to the hand of you sons.	21 Finché vivi e respiri non abdicare per nessuno;
22 Excel in all that you do; bring no stain upon your honor.	22 è, infatti, meglio che siano i figli a pregarti e non che tu attenda grazie dalle loro mani.
23 At the time when you end the days of your life, in the hour of death, distribute your inheritance.	23 In ogni tua cosa conserva i diritti e sii senza macchia sulla tua reputazione.
24 Fodder and a stick and burdens for an ass; bread and discipline and work for a servant.	24 Sul finire dei tuoi giorni, al tempo della fine, allora distribuisci l’eredità.
25 Set your slave to work, and you will find rest; leave his hands idle, and he will seek liberty.	25 Foraggio, bastone e soma all’asino; pane, castigo e occupazione allo schiavo.
26 Yoke and thong will bow the neck, and for a wicked servant there are racks and tortures.	26 Da’ a questo lavoro e troverà riposo; lasciagli libere le mani e cercherà libertà.
27 Put him to work, that he may not be idle, for idleness teaches much evil.	27 Mandalo al lavoro, perché non rimanga in ozio; l’ozio insegna molta malizia.
28 Set him to work, as is fitting for him, and if he does not obey, make his fetters heavy.	28 Giogo e redini fanno piegare la cervice; tormenti e sofferenze il cattivo domestico.
29 Do not act immoderately toward anybody, and do nothing without discretion.	29 Disponilo nei lavori, come gli conviene, e, se non ubbidisce, aggravagli le catene;
30 If you have a servant, let him be as yourself, because you have bought him with blood.	30 ma non oltrepassare i limiti con nessuno e non fare nulla senza ponderazione.
31 If you have a servant, treat him as a brother, for as your own soul you will need him. If you ill-treat him, and he leaves and runs away, which way will you go to seek him?	31 Hai un domestico? trattalo come te stesso, perché ti è necessario come la tua anima.
	32 Hai un domestico? trattalo da fratello, perché lo hai comprato con il sangue.
	33 Se lo tratti male ed egli fugge allontanandosi, dove lo cercherai?
