Sirach 33

1 No evil will befall the man who fears the Lord, but in trial he will deliver him again and again.	1 Non addiverrà male a colui che teme Iddio; e Iddio lo difenderà nella tentazione, e libererallo dalli mali.
2 A wise man will not hate the law, but he who is hypocritical about it is like a boat in a storm.	2 Il savio non odia li comandamenti e le giustizie, e non fia percosso sì come è percossa la nave nella tempesta.
3 A man of understanding will trust in the law; for him the law is as dependable as an inquiry by means of Urim.	3 L'uomo che ha senno crede alla legge di Dio, e la legge sì è a lui fedele.
4 Prepare what to say, and thus you will be heard; bind together your instruction, and make your answer.	4 Chi apre la sua domanda, apparecchierà (a sè) risposta; e se egli pregherae, sarà esaudito, e conserverà la disciplina, e allora risponderae.
5 The heart of a fool is like a cart wheel, and his thoughts like a turning axle.	5 L'animo del pazzo, sì come la ruota del carro; il pensiero suo sì come legno dove si voltano le ruote.
6 A stallion is like a mocking friend; he neighs under every one who sits on him.	6 Sì come il cavallo stallone, così l'amico schernitore, che dileggia sotto ciascuno che siede sopra a lui.
7 Why is any day better than another, when all the daylight in the year is from the sun?	7 Per che avanza l'uno dì 'l' altro, e la luce avanza la luce, e l'anno l'anno, e il sole il sole?
8 By the Lord's decision they were distinguished, and he appointed the different seasons and feasts;	8 Elli sono partiti per la scienza di Dio; il sole è fatto, e osserva il comandamento.
9 some of them he exalted and hallowed, and some of them he made ordinary days.	9 Per la sapienza di Dio si (dividono e) mutono li tempi; li dì delle feste di quelli cèlebrano gli uomini all'ora.
10 All men are from the ground, and Adam was created of the dust.	10 In essi Iddio esaltoe e magnificoe quelli, ed elli puose in numero di dì (e d'anni); e tutti gli uomini sono di terra, donde fue creato Adamo.
11 In the fulness of his knowledge the Lord distinguished them and appointed their different ways;	11 E nella moltitudine della disciplina [il Signore] li partie, e mutoe le vie loro.
12 some of them he blessed and exalted, and some of them he made holy and brought near to himself; but some of them he cursed and brought low, and he turned them out of their place.	12 Di loro benedisse ed esaltoe, e di loro santificoe, e a sè giunse; di loro maledisse e abbassoe e convertì loro alla divisione loro.
13 As clay in the hand of the potter-- for all his ways are as he pleases-- so men are in the hand of him who made them, to give them as he decides.	13 Sì come la terra in mano del pentolaio, a far come vuole e ordinarla;
14 Good is the opposite of evil, and life the opposite of death; so the sinner is the opposite of the godly.	14 (così nella mano di Dio farae l'uomo quello). Tutte le vie secondo la disposizione sua; così l'uomo nella mano di colui che il fece, e renderae a colui secondo la scienza sua.
15 Look upon all the works of the Most High; they likewise are in pairs, one the opposite of the other.	15 Così come contro al male è il bene, e contro alla morte è la vita, così contra l'uomo giusto è il pecatore; così vedera' in tutte l'opere dello Altissimo; due contro a due, e uno contro a uno.
16 I was the last on watch; I was like one who gleans after the grape-gatherers; by the blessing of the Lord I excelled, and like a grape-gatherer I filled my wine press.	16 E io ultimo veggiai, sì come colui che coglie li grappi dietro allo vendemmiatore.
17 Consider that I have not labored for myself alone, but for all who seek instruction.	17 Nella benedizione di Dio sperai; e riempiei. lo canale, sì come colui che vendemmioe.
18 Hear me, you who are great among the people, and you leaders of the congregation, hearken.	18 Guardate che io non lavorai a me solo, ma a tutti coloro che cercano disciplina.
19 To son or wife, to brother or friend, do not give power over yourself, as long as you live; and do not give your property to another, lest you change your mind and must ask for it.	19 Uditemi, grandi e tutti li popoli; e, rettori della chiesa, apprendete colli orecchi.
20 While you are still alive and have breath in you, do not let any one take your place.	20 Non dare signoria sopra te, in tua vita, a figliuolo o a moglie, o a fratello o ad amico; e non dare ad altrui le tue possessioni, acciò che per avventura tu non te ne penti, e prieghi poi ch' elle ti sieno rendute.
21 For it is better that your children should ask from you than that you should look to the hand of you sons.	21 Nullo uomo ti muti di questo proponimento, infino che tu vivi.
22 Excel in all that you do; bring no stain upon your honor.	22 Egli è meglio che i figliuoli ti prieghino, che tu caggi alle mani loro.
23 At the time when you end the days of your life, in the hour of death, distribute your inheritance.	23 Sii eccellente in tutte l' opere tue.
24 Fodder and a stick and burdens for an ass; bread and discipline and work for a servant.	24 E non maculare la fama tua. Distribuisci la ereditade tua nel dì della fine de' di della vita tua, e nel tempo della tua morte.
25 Set your slave to work, and you will find rest; leave his hands idle, and he will seek liberty.	25 Cibi e verga e peso all' asino; pane e disciplina e opera al servo.
26 Yoke and thong will bow the neck, and for a wicked servant there are racks and tortures.	26 Opera nella disciplina, e cerca di riposarsi; isnodagli le mani, egli cercherà d'essere libero.
27 Put him to work, that he may not be idle, for idleness teaches much evil.	27 Il giogo e freno piegano il duro collo, e le continue operazioni piegano il servo.
28 Set him to work, as is fitting for him, and if he does not obey, make his fetters heavy.	28 Al servo malevolo si conviene tormento e ceppi; mettilo in opera, che non si stia.
29 Do not act immoderately toward anybody, and do nothing without discretion.	29 La oziositade insegnoe molta malizia.
30 If you have a servant, let him be as yourself, because you have bought him with blood.	30 E mettilo in opera, però che si conviene a colui. E se egli non ubbidisce, ponilo co' piedi nelli ceppi, e non gli dare larghezza sopra ogni uomo; ma sanza deliberazione non fare alcuna cosa grave.
31 If you have a servant, treat him as a brother, for as your own soul you will need him. If you ill-treat him, and he leaves and runs away, which way will you go to seek him?	31 Se tu hai servo fedele, siati quasi l'anima tua; e trattalo come fratello, per che tu l' hai comperato nel sangue dell' anima.
	32 Se tu gli farai male a torto, egli si volterae a fuggire.
	33 E se insuperbiendo se n'anderà, di cui cercherai tu, e in quale via, nollo sai.
