Psalms 37

1 A Psalm of David. Fret not yourself because of the wicked, be not envious of wrongdoers!	1 Di Davide. Non t'irritare a causa dei malvagi, non invidiare quanti commettono il male.
2 For they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.	2 Poiché come fieno saran presto falciati, come erba verdeggiante avvizziranno.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will dwell in the land, and enjoy security.	3 Confida nel Signore e opera il bene, abita nella terra e goditi le sue ricchezze;
4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.	4 poni nel Signore la tua gioia, possa egli appagare il desiderio del tuo cuore.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.	5 Al Signore affida la tua via, confida in lui ed egli interverrà;
6 He will bring forth your vindication as the light, and your right as the noonday.	6 farà risplendere come luce la tua giustizia e il tuo giudizio come il meriggio.
7 Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over him who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!	7 Rimani tranquillo davanti al Signore e spera in lui, non t'irritare per chi ha prospera la vita, per l'uomo che agisce con scaltrezza.
8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.	8 Trattieniti dall'ira e non cedere allo sdegno; non t'irritare: ti porterebbe al male.
9 For the wicked shall be cut off; but those who wait for the LORD shall possess the land.	9 Poiché saranno stroncati i malvagi, mentre quanti sperano nel Signore erediteranno la terra.
10 Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look well at his place, he will not be there.	10 Ancora un poco e l'empio non ci sarà più; ne cercherai il posto e non lo troverai.
11 But the meek shall possess the land, and delight themselves in abundant prosperity.	11 Ma i miseri erediteranno la terra e potranno godere della pace in abbondanza.
12 The wicked plots against the righteous, and gnashes his teeth at him;	12 L'empio complotta contro il giusto, digrigna i denti contro di lui.
13 but the LORD laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming.	13 Il Signore se ne ride, perché sa che verrà il suo giorno.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows, to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those who walk uprightly;	14 Gli empi sguainano la loro spada e tendono il loro arco, per colpire il misero e il povero, per uccidere quelli che camminano rettamente.
15 their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.	15 La loro spada penetrerà nel loro cuore e i loro archi saranno spezzati.
16 Better is a little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.	16 E' preferibile il poco del giusto alle copiose ricchezze degli empi.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; but the LORD upholds the righteous.	17 Poiché sono spezzate le braccia degli empi, mentre protettore dei giusti è il Signore.
18 The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will abide for ever;	18 Il Signore conosce i giorni degli uomini retti e la loro eredità durerà in eterno.
19 they are not put to shame in evil times, in the days of famine they have abundance.	19 Non arrossiranno in tempo di angustia, nei giorni di carestia potranno saziarsi.
20 But the wicked perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures, they vanish--like smoke they vanish away.	20 Sì, periranno gli empi, i nemici del Signore appassiranno. Essi passano come l'ornamento del prato, più presto del fumo essi svaniscono.
21 The wicked borrows, and cannot pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;	21 Prende in prestito l'empio e non restituisce, mentre il giusto è pietoso e dà.
22 for those blessed by the LORD shall possess the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.	22 Sì, quelli che da lui son benedetti erediteranno la terra; ma quelli che sono maledetti ne saranno esclusi.
23 The steps of a man are from the LORD, and he establishes him in whose way he delights;	23 Dal Signore dipendono i passi dell'uomo, egli rafforza l'uomo la cui via gli è gradita.
24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD is the stay of his hand.	24 Se egli cade, non rimarrà prostrato, poiché il Signore sorregge la sua mano.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread.	25 Sono stato ragazzo e ora sono vecchio; non ho mai visto un giusto abbandonato, né un suo discendente mendicare il pane.
26 He is ever giving liberally and lending, and his children become a blessing.	26 Ogni giorno è pietoso e concede prestiti, e la sua discendenza sarà in benedizione.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; so shall you abide for ever.	27 Discòstati dal male e fa' il bene, così sarà stabile la tua dimora per sempre.
28 For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. The righteous shall be preserved for ever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.	28 Poiché il Signore ama l'equità e non abbandona chi in lui si rifugia. Gli iniqui in eterno saranno puniti e sarà recisa la discendenza degli empi.
29 The righteous shall possess the land, and dwell upon it for ever.	29 I giusti erediteranno la terra e sarà la loro dimora per sempre.
30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.	30 La bocca del giusto proferisce sapienza e parla la sua lingua secondo equità.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.	31 La legge del suo Dio sta sempre nel suo cuore e i suoi passi non sono esitanti.
32 The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.	32 Sta l'empio in agguato del giusto e cerca il modo di farlo morire.
33 The LORD will not abandon him to his power, or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.	33 Ma in suo potere non lo lascia il Signore, né permette la sua condanna in giudizio.
34 Wait for the LORD, and keep to his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land; you will look on the destruction of the wicked.	34 Spera nel Signore e custodisci la sua via, sarai capace di ereditare la terra, e assisterai con gioia all'esclusione degli empi.
35 I have seen a wicked man overbearing, and towering like a cedar of Lebanon.	35 Vidi l'empio esaltato, elevato come un cedro verdeggiante.
36 Again I passed by, and, lo, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found.	36 Passai, ed ecco: non c'era più; feci ricerche: non si trovava.
37 Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright, for there is posterity for the man of peace.	37 Custodisci l'integrità e segui la rettitudine, poiché c'è prosperità per l'uomo di pace.
38 But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the posterity of the wicked shall be cut off.	38 Tutti insieme saranno puniti i malfattori; stroncata sarà la posterità degli empi.
39 The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their refuge in the time of trouble.	39 La salvezza dei giusti viene dal Signore, egli è loro scampo in tempo d'angustia.
40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked, and saves them, because they take refuge in him.	40 Li protegge il Signore e li libera, li libera dagli empi e li salva, poiché in lui hanno cercato rifugio.
