Psalms 37

1 A Psalm of David. Fret not yourself because of the wicked, be not envious of wrongdoers!	1 'Di Davide.' Alef. Non adirarti contro gli empi non invidiare i malfattori.
2 For they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.	2 Come fieno presto appassiranno, cadranno come erba del prato.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will dwell in the land, and enjoy security.	3 Bet. Confida nel Signore e fa' il bene; abita la terra e vivi con fede.
4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.	4 Cerca la gioia del Signore, esaudirà i desideri del tuo cuore.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.	5 Ghimel. Manifesta al Signore la tua via, confida in lui: compirà la sua opera;
6 He will bring forth your vindication as the light, and your right as the noonday.	6 farà brillare come luce la tua giustizia, come il meriggio il tuo diritto.
7 Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over him who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!	7 Dalet. Sta' in silenzio davanti al Signore e spera in lui; non irritarti per chi ha successo, per l'uomo che trama insidie.
8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.	8 He. Desisti dall'ira e deponi lo sdegno, non irritarti: faresti del male,
9 For the wicked shall be cut off; but those who wait for the LORD shall possess the land.	9 poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati, ma chi spera nel Signore possederà la terra.
10 Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look well at his place, he will not be there.	10 Vau. Ancora un poco e l'empio scompare, cerchi il suo posto e più non lo trovi.
11 But the meek shall possess the land, and delight themselves in abundant prosperity.	11 I miti invece possederanno la terra e godranno di una grande pace.
12 The wicked plots against the righteous, and gnashes his teeth at him;	12 Zain. L'empio trama contro il giusto, contro di lui digrigna i denti.
13 but the LORD laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming.	13 Ma il Signore ride dell'empio, perché vede arrivare il suo giorno.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows, to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those who walk uprightly;	14 Het. Gli empi sfoderano la spada e tendono l'arco per abbattere il misero e l'indigente, per uccidere chi cammina sulla retta via.
15 their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.	15 La loro spada raggiungerà il loro cuore e i loro archi si spezzeranno.
16 Better is a little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.	16 Tet. Il poco del giusto è cosa migliore dell'abbondanza degli empi;
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; but the LORD upholds the righteous.	17 perché le braccia degli empi saranno spezzate, ma il Signore è il sostegno dei giusti.
18 The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will abide for ever;	18 Iod. Conosce il Signore la vita dei buoni, la loro eredità durerà per sempre.
19 they are not put to shame in evil times, in the days of famine they have abundance.	19 Non saranno confusi nel tempo della sventura e nei giorni della fame saranno saziati.
20 But the wicked perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures, they vanish--like smoke they vanish away.	20 Caf. Poiché gli empi periranno, i nemici del Signore appassiranno come lo splendore dei prati, tutti come fumo svaniranno.
21 The wicked borrows, and cannot pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;	21 Lamed. L'empio prende in prestito e non restituisce, ma il giusto ha compassione e dà in dono.
22 for those blessed by the LORD shall possess the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.	22 Chi è benedetto da Dio possederà la terra, ma chi è maledetto sarà sterminato.
23 The steps of a man are from the LORD, and he establishes him in whose way he delights;	23 Mem. Il Signore fa sicuri i passi dell'uomo e segue con amore il suo cammino.
24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD is the stay of his hand.	24 Se cade, non rimane a terra, perché il Signore lo tiene per mano.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread.	25 Nun. Sono stato fanciullo e ora sono vecchio, non ho mai visto il giusto abbandonato né i suoi figli mendicare il pane.
26 He is ever giving liberally and lending, and his children become a blessing.	26 Egli ha sempre compassione e dà in prestito, per questo la sua stirpe è benedetta.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; so shall you abide for ever.	27 Samech. Sta' lontano dal male e fa' il bene, e avrai sempre una casa.
28 For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. The righteous shall be preserved for ever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.	28 Perché il Signore ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi fedeli; Ain. gli empi saranno distrutti per sempre e la loro stirpe sarà sterminata.
29 The righteous shall possess the land, and dwell upon it for ever.	29 I giusti possederanno la terra e la abiteranno per sempre.
30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.	30 Pe. La bocca del giusto proclama la sapienza, e la sua lingua esprime la giustizia;
31 The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.	31 la legge del suo Dio è nel suo cuore, i suoi passi non vacilleranno.
32 The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.	32 L'empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.
33 The LORD will not abandon him to his power, or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.	33 Il Signore non lo abbandona alla sua mano, nel giudizio non lo lascia condannare.
34 Wait for the LORD, and keep to his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land; you will look on the destruction of the wicked.	34 Kof. Spera nel Signore e segui la sua via: ti esalterà e tu possederai la terra e vedrai lo sterminio degli empi.
35 I have seen a wicked man overbearing, and towering like a cedar of Lebanon.	35 Res. Ho visto l'empio trionfante ergersi come cedro rigoglioso;
36 Again I passed by, and, lo, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found.	36 sono passato e più non c'era, l'ho cercato e più non si è trovato.
37 Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright, for there is posterity for the man of peace.	37 Sin. Osserva il giusto e vedi l'uomo retto, l'uomo di pace avrà una discendenza.
38 But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the posterity of the wicked shall be cut off.	38 Ma tutti i peccatori saranno distrutti, la discendenza degli empi sarà sterminata.
39 The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their refuge in the time of trouble.	39 Tau. La salvezza dei giusti viene dal Signore, nel tempo dell'angoscia è loro difesa;
40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked, and saves them, because they take refuge in him.	40 il Signore viene in loro aiuto e li scampa, li libera dagli empi e dà loro salvezza, perché in lui si sono rifugiati.
