Job 23

1 Then Job answered:	1 Giobbe rispose, con dire:
2 "Today also my complaint is bitter, his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.	2 « Anche ora le mie parole son piene d'amarezza; e la mano che mi piaga è più grave dei miei gemiti.
3 Oh, that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat!	3 Oh! sapessi come trovarlo, come giungere fino al suo trono!
4 I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.	4 Esporrei dinanzi a lui la mia causa ed avrei piena di querela la mia bocca.
5 I would learn what he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.	5 E vorrei sapere che potrebbe oppormi, e capire quel che avrebbe da dirmi.
6 Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No; he would give heed to me.	6 Ma non vorrei che Egli contendesse meco colla sua gran potenza, e mi schiacciasse sotto il peso della sua grandezza.
7 There an upright man could reason with him, and I should be acquitted for ever by my judge.	7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e la mia causa otterrà vittoria.
8 "Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him;	8 Ma se io vo' verso l'oriente, Egli non comparisce, se vado verso l'occidente non lo vedo.
9 on the left hand I seek him, but I cannot behold him; I turn to the right hand, but I cannot see him.	9 Se a sinistra, che devo fare, non trovandolo? Se a destra, non lo vedrò.
10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.	10 Ma Egli conosce la mia condotta, Egli m'ha provato come l'oro attraverso il fuoco,
11 My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside.	11 il mio piede ha seguite le sue orme; sono stato sempre nella sua vìa, senza allontanarmi da essa,
12 I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.	12 non mi sono allontanato dai precetti delle sue labbra, ed ho riposte nel mio cuore le parole della sua bocca.
13 But he is unchangeable and who can turn him? What he desires, that he does.	13 Ma Egli solo è, e nessuno può turbare i suoi disegni. Egli ha fatto ciò che ha voluto.
14 For he will complete what he appoints for me; and many such things are in his mind.	14 Quando Egli avrà compita su di me la sua volontà, avrà ancora gran numero di simili mezzi a sua disposizione.
15 Therefore I am terrified at his presence; when I consider, I am in dread of him.	15 Per questo io mi turbo alla sua presenza, e quando penso a lui son preso dallo spavento.
16 God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me;	16 Dio mi strugge il cuore, l'Onnipotente mi spaventa.
17 for I am hemmed in by darkness, and thick darkness covers my face.	17 Ma io non perisco per tenebre che mi opprimano, e la caligine non ha coperta la mia faccia ».
