Job 23

1 Then Job answered:	1 - Ma Giobbe rispose e disse:
2 "Today also my complaint is bitter, his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.	2 «Anche adesso è d'amarezza il mio discorso, e la mano che mi colpisce s'è aggravata sul mio gemito.
3 Oh, that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat!	3 Oh! se io sapessi come ritrar Lui, e giungere fino al suo soglio!
4 I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.	4 Disporrei avanti a Lui la mia causa, e riempirei la mia bocca di querele;
5 I would learn what he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.	5 saprei le parole ch'egli mi risponderebbecapirei ciò che mi direbbe.
6 Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No; he would give heed to me.	6 Vorrei solo che con molta possanza non discutesse meco, nè con la grandezza della sua maestà m'opprimesse,
7 There an upright man could reason with him, and I should be acquitted for ever by my judge.	7 che usasse equità a mio riguardo, e la mia causa sarebbe vincitrice.
8 "Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him;	8 Se io vado verso oriente, egli non compare, se verso occidente, non lo scorgo:
9 on the left hand I seek him, but I cannot behold him; I turn to the right hand, but I cannot see him.	9 se verso sinistra, che farò? non lo raggiungo, se mi volgo a destra, non lo vedo.
10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.	10 Eppur egli conosce la mia condotta, mi ha saggiato come oro che passa al fuoco.
11 My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside.	11 All'orme di lui s'attenne il mio piede, la sua vita ho seguìto senza declinarne;
12 I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.	12 dai comandi delle sue labbra non mi dilungai, nel mio seno nascosi le parole della sua bocca.
13 But he is unchangeable and who can turn him? What he desires, that he does.	13 Poichè egli è solo, e nessuno può impedire il suo progetto, e l'anima sua fa tutto ciò che vuole.
14 For he will complete what he appoints for me; and many such things are in his mind.	14 Quand'egli avrà compiuto la sua volontà a mio riguardo, anche molte altre cose simiglianti egli ha pronte.
15 Therefore I am terrified at his presence; when I consider, I am in dread of him.	15 E per questo della sua presenza io pavento, e riflettendo su lui sono assalito da timore.
16 God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me;	16 Dio ha reso flaccido il mio cuore, e l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato;
17 for I am hemmed in by darkness, and thick darkness covers my face.	17 io invero non perisco per le imminenti tenebre, nè dalla caligine è ricoperto il mio volto.
