Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
Then Jacob called his sons, and said, "Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in days to come.1 Poi Giacobbe chiamò i figli e disse: «Radunatevi perché io vi annunci ciò che vi accadrà nei tempi futuri.
Assemble and hear, O sons of Jacob, and hearken to Israel your father.2 Adunatevi e ascoltate, figli di Giacobbe, ascoltate Israele vostro padre!
Reuben, you are my first-born, my might, and the first fruits of my strength, pre-eminent in pride and pre-eminent in power.3 Ruben, tu sei il mio primogenito, mio vigore e primizia della mia virilità, esuberante di fierezza ed esuberante di forza!
Unstable as water, you shall not have pre-eminence because you went up to your father's bed; then you defiled it--you went up to my couch!4 Bollente come l’acqua, tu non avrai preminenza, perché sei salito sul letto di tuo padre e così hai violato il giaciglio sul quale egli era salito.
Simeon and Levi are brothers; weapons of violence are their swords.5 Simeone e Levi sono fratelli, strumenti di violenza sono le loro spade.
O my soul, come not into their council; O my spirit, be not joined to their company; for in their anger they slay men, and in their wantonness they hamstring oxen.6 Nel loro conciliabolo non entri la mia anima, alla loro assemblea non si unisca la mia gloria. Perché nella loro collera uccisero uomini e nella loro arroganza mutilarono tori.
Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.7 Maledetta la loro collera perché violenta e il loro furore perché crudele! Io li dividerò in Giacobbe e li disperderò in Israele.
Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's sons shall bow down before you.8 Giuda, te loderanno i tuoi fratelli; la tua mano sarà sulla cervice dei tuoi nemici; a te si prostreranno i figli di tuo padre.
Judah is a lion's whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as a lioness; who dares rouse him up?9 Un giovane leone è Giuda; dalla preda, figlio mio, tu risali: si rannicchia, si accovaccia come un leone e come una leonessa; chi lo può disturbare?
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.10 Non sarà tolto lo scettro da Giuda né il bastone di comando tra i suoi piedi, finché non verrà colui al quale esso appartiene, al quale andrà l’obbedienza dei popoli.
Binding his foal to the vine and his ass's colt to the choice vine, he washes his garments in wine and his vesture in the blood of grapes;11 Egli lega alla vite il suo asinello e a una vite scelta il figlio della sua asina, lava nel vino la sua veste e nel sangue dell’uva il suo manto,
his eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.12 ha gli occhi lucidi per il vino e i denti bianchi per il latte.
Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea; he shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon.13 Zabulon dimora lungo il lido del mare, lungo il lido frequentato da navi, mentre ha il fianco rivolto a Sidone.
Issachar is a strong ass, crouching between the sheepfolds;14 Issachar è un asino robusto, accovacciato tra un doppio recinto.
he saw that a resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant; so he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a slave at forced labor.15 Vide che era bello il riposo e che il paese era ameno, e piegò la schiena per portare pesi e divenne schiavo ai lavori forzati.
Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel.16 Dan giudica il suo popolo come ogni altra tribù di Israele.
Dan shall be a serpent in the way, a viper by the path, that bites the horse's heels so that his rider falls backward.17 Sia Dan un serpente sulla strada, una vipera cornuta sul sentiero, che morde i talloni del cavallo e il cavaliere cade riverso.
I wait for thy salvation, O LORD.18 Da te spero la salvezza, O Jahvè!
Raiders shall raid Gad, but he shall raid at their heels.19 Gad: predoni lo assaltano ma lui li assalta alle calcagna.
Asher's food shall be rich, and he shall yield royal dainties.20 Asher: il suo pane è pingue, egli fornisce leccornie da re.
Naphtali is a hind let loose, that bears comely fawns.21 Neftali è una cerva errabonda che pronuncia graziosi discorsi.
Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; his branches run over the wall.22 È un rampollo di vite feconda Giuseppe; è un rampollo di vite feconda presso una fonte, i cui tralci si stendono sul muro.
The archers fiercely attacked him, shot at him, and harassed him sorely;23 Lo hanno provocato e colpito, lo hanno osteggiato i tiratori di frecce;
yet his bow remained unmoved, his arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (by the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel),24 ma è rimasto inconcusso il suo arco, e agili si sono mosse le sue braccia, per le mani del Potente di Giacobbe, per il nome del Pastore, Pietra di Israele.
by the God of your father who will help you, by God Almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that couches beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.25 Per il Dio di tuo padre: egli ti aiuti! Per El-Shaddai: egli ti benedica! Con benedizioni del cielo di sopra, benedizioni dell’abisso che giace sotto, benedizioni delle mammelle e della matrice.
The blessings of your father are mighty beyond the blessings of the eternal mountains, the bounties of the everlasting hills; may they be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of him who was separate from his brothers.26 Le benedizioni di tuo padre sono durature più delle benedizioni dei monti perenni, più delle attrattive dei colli eterni. Vengano esse sul capo di Giuseppe e sulla testa del principe tra i suoi fratelli!
Benjamin is a ravenous wolf, in the morning devouring the prey, and at even dividing the spoil."27 Beniamin è un lupo rapace: al mattino divora la preda e alla sera divide il bottino».
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel; and this is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him.28 Tutti questi formano le dodici tribù di Israele, e ciò è quanto disse loro il padre, quando li benedisse: egli benedisse ciascuno con una benedizione particolare.
Then he charged them, and said to them, "I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,29 Poi diede loro questo ordine: «Io sto per essere riunito ai miei antenati: seppellitemi presso i miei padri nella caverna che è nel campo di Efron l’Hittita,
in the cave that is in the field at Mach-pelah, to the east of Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place.30 nella caverna che si trova nel campo di Machpela, di fronte a Mambre, nella terra di Canaan, quella che Abramo comperò con il campo da Efron l’Hittita, quale proprietà funeraria.
There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah--31 Là seppellirono Abramo e Sara sua moglie, là seppellirono Isacco e Rebecca sua moglie e là seppellii Lia.
the field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the Hittites."32 Il campo e la caverna che si trova in essa sono una proprietà acquistata dagli Hittiti».
When Jacob finished charging his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed, and breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.33 Quando Giacobbe ebbe finito di dare questo ordine ai suoi figli, ritirò i piedi nel letto e spirò e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
