BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Non ti dar vanto del domani, perchè non sai quel che nascerà il giorno appresso.	1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what the future day may bring.
2 Ti lodi un altro e non la tua bocca; un estraneo e non le tue labbra.	2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth: an outsider, and not your own lips.
3 Grave è la pietra e pesante la sabbia, ma l'ira dello stolto è più grave di tutte e due.	3 A stone is weighty, and sand is burdensome; but the wrath of the foolish is heavier than both.
4 L'ira non ha misericordia nè il furore impetuoso, e chi potrà reggere all'impeto d'un uomo concitato?	4 Anger holds no mercy, nor does fury when it erupts. And who can bear the assault of one who has been provoked?
5 È meglio un'aperta riprensioneche un amore dissimulato.	5 An open rebuke is better than hidden love.
6 Meglio le percosse di chi ti vuol beneche i falsi baci di chi ti vuol male.	6 The wounds of a loved one are better than the deceitful kisses of a hateful one.
7 L'anima sazia si metterà sotto i piedi il favo del miele, ma l'anima che ha fame troverà dolce anche l'amaro.	7 A sated soul will trample the honeycomb. And a hungry soul will accept even bitter in place of sweet.
8 Come l'uccello che migra dal suo nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo luogo.	8 Just like a bird migrating from her nest, so also is a man who abandons his place.
9 D'unguento e di vari profumi si rallegra il cuore, e dei buoni consigli dell'amico l'anima si sente raddolcire.	9 Ointment and various perfumes delight the heart. And the good advice of a friend is sweet to the soul.
10 Il tuo amico e l'amico di tuo padre non lo lasciare; e nel dì della tua disgrazia, non entrare nella casa del fratello. Meglio un vicino accanto, che un fratello lontano.	10 Do not dismiss your friend or your father’s friend. And do not enter your brother’s house in the day of your affliction. A close neighbor is better than a distant brother.
11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, e rallegrami il cuore, affinchè tu abbia una parola da rispondere a chi ci voglia screditare.	11 My son, study wisdom, and rejoice my heart, so that you may be able to respond to the one who reproaches.
12 L'uomo accorto, vedendo il male, si mise al riparo; gl'incauti, passando oltre, pagarono il fio.	12 The discerning man, seeing evil, hides himself. The little ones, continuing on, sustain losses.
13 Prendi il mantello a colui che ha fatto sicurtà per uno straniero, ed a conto degli estranei fatti consegnare il pegno.	13 Take away the garment of him who has vouched for an outsider. And take a pledge from him on behalf of foreigners.
14 Chi benedice il suo prossimo a gran voce alzandosi al mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.	14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a grand voice, rising in the night, shall be like one who curses.
15 Tetto gocciolante in una giornata piovosa e donna rissosa, si rassomigliano:	15 A roof leaking on a cold day, and an argumentative woman, are comparable.
16 chi pretende tenerla è come chi voglia tener il vento, l'olio della propria destra egli chiama.	16 He who would restrain her, he is like one who would grasp the wind, or who would gather together oil with his right hand.
17 Il ferro col ferro s'aguzza, e un uomo aguzza l'ingegno all'altro.	17 Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
18 Chi fa la guardia al fico mangerà del suo frutto, e chi ha cura del suo padrone sarà onorato.	18 Whoever maintains the fig tree shall eat its fruit. And whoever is the keeper of his master shall be glorified.
19 Come nell'acqua sono visibili i visi di quelli che vi si specchiano, così i cuori degli uomini sono visibili ai prudenti.	19 In the manner of faces looking into shining water, so are the hearts of men made manifest to the prudent.
20 L'Inferno e la Perdizione non si saziano mai, così anche gli occhi degli uomini, non si saziano mai.	20 Hell and perdition are never filled; similarly the eyes of men are insatiable.
21 Come nel crogiolo si prova l'argento e nel fornello l'oro, così l'uomo si prova per la bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo ricerca il male, il cuor retto ricerca la scienza.	21 In the manner of silver being tested in the refinery, and gold in the furnace, so also is a man tested by the mouth of one who praises. The heart of the iniquitous inquires after evils, but the heart of the righteous inquires after knowledge.
22 Ancorchè tu pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come l'orzo battendo sopra col pestello, non gli si leverà la sua stoltezza.	22 Even if you were to crush the foolish with a mortar, as when a pestle strikes over pearled barley, his foolishness would not be taken from him.
23 Infòrmati bene dello stato del tuo bestiame, ed abbi cura assidua delle tue greggi,	23 Be diligent to know the countenance of your cattle, and consider your own flocks,
24 perchè non avrai sempre il potere, ma la corona passerà da generazione a generazione.	24 for you will not always hold this power. But a crown shall be awarded from generation to generation.
25 I prati sono in fiore e vestiti d'erbe verdeggianti; già si sono raccolti i fieni al monte.	25 The meadows are open, and the green plants have appeared, and the hay has been collected from the mountains.
26 Hai gli agnelli pel tuo vestito, e i capretti quale equivalente d'un podere:	26 Lambs are for your clothing, and goats are for the price of a field.
27 accontentati del latte delle capre per tuo cibo, per il sostentamento di casa tua, e pel vitto delle tue ancelle.	27 Let the milk of goats be sufficient for your food, and for the necessities of your household, and for the provisions of your handmaids.
