Job 34

1 After proclaiming these things, Eliu now had this to say:	1 Dann sprach Elihu als Erwiderung:
2 May the wise hear my words, and may the educated listen to me.	2 "Horcht, ihr Weisen, auf meine Worte; ihr Wissenden, hört mir zu!
3 For the ear examines words, and the mouth discerns foods by the taste.	3 Gewiß, das Ohr soll die Worte prüfen, wie der Gaumen die Speise verkostet.
4 Let us choose judgment for ourselves, and let us consider among ourselves what is best.	4 Das Recht wollen wir untersuchen, miteinander erkunden, was richtig ist!
5 For Job has said: “I am just, yet God has subverted my judgment.	5 Denn Job erklärte: "Ich bin im Recht, doch Gott hat mein Recht zurückgewiesen.
6 For, within my judgment, there is a lie: my vehement barbs are without any sin.”	6 Meinem Recht zuwider sollte ich lügen? Heillos ist der Pfeil, der mich ohne Schuld traf!"
7 What man is there that is like Job, who drinks up derision as if it were water,	7 Wo ist ein Mann gleich Job, der wie Wasser Lästerung trinkt,
8 who accompanies those who work iniquity, and who walks with impious men?	8 der im Verein mit Übeltätern wandelt und mit verruchten Leuten einiggeht?
9 For he has said, “Man will not please God, even if he should travel with him.”	9 Er sagte ja: "Es nützt dem Menschen nichts, wenn er in Freundschaft lebt mit Gott!"
10 Therefore, prudent men, hear me: impiety is far from God, and iniquity is far from the Almighty.	10 Darum, ihr einsichtsvollen Männer, hört mich an! Fern liegt es Gott, Unrecht zu tun, und dem Allmächtigen, Frevel zu verüben!
11 For he will restore to man his works, and according to the ways of each, he will repay them.	11 Vielmehr, des Menschen Tun vergilt er ihm, und jeden läßt er ernten je nach seinem Wandel.
12 For truly, God will not condemn in vain, nor will the Almighty repudiate judgment.	12 Nein, fürwahr, Gott handelt niemals ungerecht; der Allmächtige beugt nicht das Recht!
13 What other is established over the earth? Or whom has he placed over the world, which he made?	13 Wer hat ihm denn der Erde Schöpfung aufgetragen, wer hat den ganzen Erdkreis hingestellt?
14 But, if he directs his heart towards him, he will draw his spirit and breath to himself.	14 Würde er auf ihn (den Menschen) seinen Sinn nur richten, seinen Geist und Odem wieder zu sich nehmen,
15 All flesh will fail together, and man will return to ashes.	15 so müßte alles Fleisch zusammen sterben, der Mensch zum Staube wiederkehren.
16 Therefore, if you have understanding, hear what is said, and heed the sound of my eloquence.	16 Doch wenn du Einsicht hast, so höre folgendes, lausche auf den Wortlaut meiner Rede:
17 Is he that does not love judgment able to be corrected? And how can you so greatly condemn him who is just?	17 Kann, wer das Recht haßt, Führung innehaben, und willst du den erhabensten Gerechten als ungerecht bezeichnen?
18 He says to the king, “You are an apostate.” He calls commanders impious.	18 Ihn, der zu einem König offen sagt: "Du Taugenichts!", zu Edelleuten: "Übeltäter!",
19 He does not accept the reputation of leaders; nor does he recognize the tyrant as he contends against the poor. For all are the work of his hands.	19 der auch auf Fürsten keine Rücksicht nimmt und keinen Hohen vor dem Niedrigen bevorzugt; denn alle sind sie seiner Hände Werk.
20 They will die suddenly, and the people will be troubled in the middle of the night, but they will pass through it, and the violent will be taken away without a hand.	20 Sie müssen plötzlich sterben, und zwar mitten in der Nacht. Die Bevölkerung kommt ins Wanken, sinkt dahin; man wird den Starken los ganz ohne Machtanstrengung.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he examines all of their steps.	21 Denn seine Augen blicken auf des Menschen Wege, und aller seiner Schritte achtet er.
22 There is no darkness and no shadow of death, where those who work iniquity may be hidden.	22 Kein Dunkel gibt es, keine Finsternis, darin die Übeltäter sich verbergen könnten.
23 For it is no longer within the power of man to enter into judgment with God.	23 Ja, er setzt einem Menschen keine Frist, auf daß er zum Gericht vor Gott erscheine.
24 He will break into many innumerable pieces, and he will cause others to stand up in their place.	24 Machthaber zerknickt er ohne Verhör, läßt andere treten an ihren Platz.
25 For he knows their works, and, as a result, he will bring the night, and they will be crushed.	25 Wahrlich, er kennt ja ihre Taten, stürzt sie über Nacht, und sie sind zermalmt.
26 Just as the impious do, he has struck them in a place where they can be seen.	26 Wie Verbrecher schlägt er sie, an einem Orte, wo es alle sehen,
27 They, as if with great diligence, have withdrawn from him, and they refused to understand all his ways,	27 deswegen, weil sie von ihm sich trennten und alle seine Wege nicht erfaßten.
28 so that they caused the outcry of the needy to reach him, and he heard the voice of the poor.	28 So läßt er das Schreien des Schwachen zu sich empordringen, das Rufen der Armen vernimmt er.
29 For, when he grants peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hides his face, who is there that can contemplate him, either among the nations, or among all men?	29 Wenn er selbst jedoch sich still verhält, wer kann ihn beschuldigen? Verbirgt er sein Antlitz, wer kann ihn erblicken?
30 He causes a hypocritical man to reign because of the sins of the people.	30 (Wenn er es verbirgt) gegenüber dem Volk wie gegenüber dem einzelnen Menschen, wegen der Herrschaft eines ruchlosen Mannes aus der Zahl der Verführer des Volkes?
31 Therefore, since I have been speaking about God, I will not prevent you from doing the same.	31 Vielmehr soll man zu Gott sprechen: "Ich war betört, ich will nicht freveln;
32 If I have erred, you may teach me; if I have spoken unfairly, I will add no more.	32 auch wenn ich dich nicht sehe, sollst du mich lehren; verübte ich Böses, so will ich es nicht wieder tun!"
33 Does God require this of you because it is displeasing to you? For you were the first to speak, and not I. But if you know something better, speak.	33 Meinst du, er wird es vergelten, wenn du widerrufst? Du selbst sollst ja entscheiden, und nicht ich! Was weißt du zu sagen?
34 Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man listen to me.	34 Männer von Einsicht werden mir bestätigen und jeder weise Mann, der mir zuhört:
35 But Job has been speaking foolishly, and his words contain unsound teaching.	35 Job redete in Unverstand, und seine Worte waren unvernünftig!
36 My father, let Job be tested even to the end; may you not retreat from a man of iniquity.	36 Wohlan, so muß Job immerdar der Prüfung unterliegen, ob seiner Widerreden nach der Art der Frevler!
37 For he adds blasphemy on top of his sins; nevertheless, let him be constrained to be among us, and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.	37 Denn seine Sünde steigert er noch weiter, Frevel strömt über in unsere Mitte, und er vermehrt wider Gott seine Reden."
