1 Samuel 25

1 Samuel died and all Israel assembled to mourn for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Davidthen set off and went down to the desert of Maon.	1 Intanto morì Samuele, e tutto Israele, adunatosi, lo pianse e lo seppellì nella sua casa in Ramata: e David si mosse e discese nel deserto di Faran. David e Nabal.
2 Now, there was a man in Maon whose business was at Carmel; the man was very rich: he ownedthree thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was then at Carmel, having his sheep shorn.	2 Or vi era nel deserto di Maon un uomo che aveva i suoi possessi in Carmelo. Quest'uomo era molto ricco: aveva tremila pecore e mille capre. Era il tempo in cui si faceva la tosatura delle sue pecore in Carmelo.
3 The man's name was Nabal and his wife's Abigail. She was a woman of intel igence and beauty, butthe man was miserly and churlish. He was a Calebite.	3 Egli si chiamava Nabal, la sua moglie Abigail. Questa era molto prudente e eblla; ma il suo marito era duro, pessimo e malizioso: egli era dalla stirpe di Caleb.
4 When David heard in the desert that Nabal was at his sheepshearing,	4 David avendo inteso nel deserto che Nabal tosava il suo gregge,
5 he sent ten men off, having said to them, 'Go up to Carmel, visit Nabal and greet him from me.	5 mandò dieci giovani, dando loro questi ordini: « Salite a Carmelo, andate da Nabal, salutatelo pacificamente a mio nome,
6 And this is what you are to say to my brother, "Peace to you, peace to your family, peace to al that isyours!	6 e poi ditegli: La pace sua coi miei fratelli e con te, la pace sia colla tua casa, la pace sia con tutto quello che hai.
7 I hear that you now have the shearers; your shepherds were with us recently: we did not molest them,nor did they lose anything al the while they were at Carmel.	7 Ho sentito dire che i tuoi pastori, i quali eran con noi nel deserto, fanno la tosatura; noi non li abbiamo mai molestati, e non mancò loro nessun capo di bestiame per tutto il tempo che furori con noi in Carmelo.
8 Ask your young men and they wil tel you. I hope that you will give the men a welcome, coming as wedo on a festival. Whatever you have to hand please give to your servants and to your son David." '	8 Chiedilo ai tuoi servi, e te lo diranno. Trovino dunque grazia dinanzi a te i tuoi servi, giacché siam venuti in una buona giornata, da' ai tuoi servi e a David tuo figlio ciò che avrai disponibile ».
9 David's men went and said al this to Nabal for David, and waited.	9 I servi andarono, e, dette da parte di David tutte queste parole a Nabal, si tacquero.
10 Nabal retorted to the men in David's service, 'Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse?	10 Ma Nabal, per tutta risposta ai servi di David, disse: Chi è David? Chi è il figlio d'Isai? Son numerosi al giorno d'oggi i servi scappati ai loro padroni;
11 There are many servants nowadays who run away from their masters. Am I to take my bread and mywine and the meat that I have slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who come from I know not where?'	11 e dovrò io prendere i miei pani, le mie acque, le carni delle pecore uccise per quei che tosano, e darle a uomini che non so donde siano? »
12 David's men turned on their heels and went back, and on their arrival told him exactly what had beensaid.	12 I servi di David, ripresa la loro strada, tornarono indietro; e, giunti da David, gli riferirono tutto quello che Nabal aveva detto.
13 David then said to his men, 'Every man buckle on his sword!' And they buckled on their swords, andDavid buckled on his too; about four hundred fol owed David while two hundred stayed with the baggage.	13 Allora David disse alla sua gente: « Si cinga ognuno la sua spada». Ognuno se la cinse, anche David si cinse la sua spada. Circa quattrocento uomini seguirono David: duecento restarono presso i bagagli.
14 Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife. He said, 'David sent messengers from thedesert to greet our master, but he flared up at them.	14 Intanto uno dei servi di Nabal riferiva la cosa alla moglie di lui Abigail, dicendole: « Ecco, David ha mandato dal deserto dei messi a salutare il nostro padrone, ed cali li ha respinti.
15 Now, these men were very good to us; they did not molest us and we lost nothing al the time we hadanything to do with them while we were out in the country.	15 Questa gente è stata molto buona verso di noi: non ci ha molestati, e per tutto il tempo che siamo siati con loro nel deserto, non c'è mai mancato nulla:
16 Night and day, they were like a rampart to us, al the time we were with them, minding the sheep.	16 essi eran per noi un muro, tanto di giorno come di notte, per tutto il tempo che siamo stati fra loro a pascere i greggi.
17 So now make up your mind what you should do, for the ruin of our master and his whole family is acertainty, and he is such a brute that no one can say a word to him.'	17 Or dunque pensa e rifletti a quel che hai da fare, perchè è già decretata la rovina del tuo marito e della tua casa: lui poi è un figlio di Belial e non c'è da parlargli ».
18 Abigail hastily took two hundred loaves, two skins of wine, five sheep ready prepared, five measuresof roasted grain, a hundred bunches of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and loaded them on donkeys.	18 Allora Abigail prese in tutta fretta duecento pani, due otri di vino, cinque arieti cotti, cinque misure di grano arrostito, cento penzoli d'uva passa e duecento torte di fichi secchi, e caricatine gli asini,
19 She said to her servants, 'Go on ahead, I shal fol ow you' -- but she did not tel her husband Nabal.	19 disse ai suoi servi: « Andate avanti, che io vi seguirò ». Ma non disse niente al suo marito Nabal.
20 As she was riding her donkey down behind a fold in the mountain, David and his men happened tobe coming down in her direction; and she met them.	20 Or quando essa, su un asino, scendeva alle falde del monte, ecco venir verso di lei David con i suoi uomini. Abigail seguitò verso di loro,
21 Now, David had decided, 'It was a waste of time my guarding al this man's property in the desert sothat he lost nothing at all! He has repaid me bad for good.	21 Intanto David diceva: « Invano adunque ho vegliato tutto ciò che costui aveva nel deserto, in modo che nulla di ciò che gli apparteneva è perito: egli mi ha reso male per bene.
22 May God bring unnameable il s on David and worse ones, too, if by morning I leave a single manjackalive of all who belong to him!'	22 Il Signore tratti David come i nemici e peggio, se di tutto ciò che appartiene a Nabal io lascerò sino a domani uno che orina al muro ».
23 As soon as Abigail saw David, she quickly dismounted from the donkey and, falling on her face infront of David, prostrated herself on the ground.	23 Ma Abigail, appena ebbe veduto David, scese in fretta, dall'asino e gettandosi bocconi dinanzi a David, si prostrò per terra.
24 She fell at his feet and said, 'Let me take the blame, my lord. Let your servant speak in your ear;listen to what your servant has to say!	24 poi, gettatasi ai suoi piedi, disse: « Sia sopra di me, signor mio, questa iniquità. Permetti alla tua serva di parlare al tuo orecchio, e tu ascolta le parole della tua serva.
25 My lord, please pay no attention to this brute Nabal for his nature is like his name; "Brute" is hisname and brutal he is. But I, your servant, did not see the men whom my lord sent.	25 Non se ne faccia, mi raccomando, il signor mio re, di quell'uomo iniquo di Nabal, perchè, secondo il suo nome è uno stolto ed ha seco la stoltezza; io poi tua serva non vidi i tuoi uomini che tu, o mio signore, avevi mandati.
26 And now, my lord, as Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, by Yahweh who kept you from the crimeof bloodshed and from taking vengeance with your own hand, may your enemies and al those ill-disposedtowards you become like Nabal.	26 Or dunque, signor mio, viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua, il Signore t'ha impedito di spargere il sangue, ha ritenuta la tua mano. Ed ora diventino come Nabal i tuoi nemici, quelli che cercano il male al mio signore.
27 As for the present which your servant has brought my lord, I should like this to be given to the men inyour service.	27 Tu dunque accetta questa benedizione che la tua serva ti ha portata, signor mio, e dalla ai servi che vengono dietro a te, signor mio.
28 Please forgive your servant for any offence I have given you, for Yahweh wil certainly assure you ofa lasting dynasty, since you are fighting Yahweh's battles and no fault has been found in you throughout yourlife.	28 Perdona, ti prego, l'iniquità alla tua serva. Signore ti farà certissimamente, o signor mio, una casa duratura, perchè tu, signor mio, combatti le battaglie del Signore; non si trovi adunque in te alcun male per tutto il tempo della tua vita.
29 Should anyone set out to hunt you down and try to kil you, your life wil be kept close in the wal et oflife with Yahweh your God, while your enemies' lives he wil fling out of the pouch of the sling.	29 Così, se un giorno si levasse qualcuno a perseguitarti e a insidiar la tua vita,la vita del mio signore sarà custodita nelfascetto dei viventi davanti al SignoreDio tuo; ma l'anima dei tuoi nemici sarà scagliata come da impetuosa agitata fionda.
30 Once Yahweh has done for you al the good things which he has said he will do for you, and madeyou ruler of Israel,	30 Così, quando il Signore avrà fatto a te, signor mio, tutti quei beni che ha predetti di te, e ti avrà costituito capo sopra Israele,
31 you must have no anxiety, my lord, no remorse, over having wantonly shed blood, over having takena revenge. When Yahweh has done wel by you, then remember your servant.'	31 non sarà per te un rimorso, non sarà una spina del cuore pel signor mio l'avere sparso il sangue innocente, l'esserti vendicato da te stesso. Quando il Signore avrà fatto del beneal signor mio, ricordati della tua serva ».
32 David said to Abigail, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!	32 David disse ad Abigail: « Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele, che oggi ti ha mandata incontro a me, benedetta la tua parola,
33 Blessed be your wisdom and blessed you yourself for today having restrained me from the crime ofbloodshed and from exacting revenge!	33 e tu pure benedetta, che oggi mi hai impedito di venire a spargere il sangue, a vendicarmi di mia mano.
34 But as Yahweh, God of Israel, lives, who prevented me from harming you, had you not hurried out tomeet me, I swear Nabal would not have had a single manjack left alive by morning!'	34 AItrimenti, viva il Signore Dio d'Israele che m'ha impedito di farti del male; se tu non mi fossi venuta subito incontro, di qui alla luce del mattino non sarebbe rimasto a Nabal nemmeno uno che orina al muro ».
35 David then accepted what she had brought him and said, 'Go home in peace; yes, I have listened toyou and have pardoned you.'	35 David accettò dalle mani di lei tutto quello che gli aveva portato, poi le disse: « Vattene in pace a casa tua: ecco io ho esaudito la tua voce ed ho onorato la tua faccia ».
36 Abigail returned to Nabal. He was holding a feast, a princely feast, in his house; Nabal was in highspirits, and as he was very drunk she told him nothing at al til it was daylight.	36 Abigail tornò da Nabal. Ed ecco Nabal faceva in casa sua un banchetto quasi da re e il cuore di lui era allegro, essendo egli molto briaco. Abigail non gli fece alcun discorso, nè grande nè piccolo,
37 In the morning, when Nabal's wine had left him and his wife told him everything that had happened,his heart died within him and he became like a stone.	37 fino alla mattina, sul far del giorno, quando Nabal aveva già digerito ì il suo vino, la sua moglie gli raccontò tutto: il cuore di Nabal ebbe un colpo mortale, ed egli diventò come una pietra,
38 About ten days later Yahweh struck Nabal, and he died.	38 e dopo dieci giorni, avendolo percosso il Signore, morì.
39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, 'Blessed be Yahweh for having defended my causeover the insult which I received from Nabal, and for having restrained his servant from doing wrong! Yahweh hasmade Nabal's wickedness rebound on his own head!'	39 David, avendo udito che Nabal era morto, disse: « Benedetto il Signore che ha giudicata la mia causa dell'obbrobrio prò veniente dalla mano di Nabal, ed ha preservato il suo servo dal male: il Signore ha fatto ricadere la malizia di Nabal sulla testa di lui ». Poi David mandò a dire ad Abigail di volerla prendere in moglie.
40 David then sent Abigail an offer of marriage. When the men in David's service came to Abigail atCarmel, they said, 'David has sent us to take you to him, to be his wife.'	40 I messi di David andarono da Abigail a Carmelo, le parlarono e dissero: « David ci ha mandati a te per prenderti in moglie ».
41 She stood up, then prostrated herself on the ground. 'Consider your servant a slave', she said, 'towash the feet of my lord's servants.'	41 Abigail, alzatasi, si chinò fino a terra e disse: « Ecco, la tua serva ti sia ancella, per lavare i piedi dei servi del mio signore ».
42 Quickly Abigail stood up again and mounted a donkey; fol owed by five of her servant-girls, shefol owed David's messengers and became his wife.	42 Poi partì in fretta sopra un asino, seguita da cinque fanciulle che la servivano; andò coi messi di David e divenne sua moglie.
43 David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel and he kept them both as wives.	43 David prese anche Achinoam da lezrael, e tutt'e due furono sue mogli.
44 Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, from Gal im.	44 Saul aveva data la moglie di David, Micol sua figlia, a Falti figlio di Lais, che era di Gallim.
