1 Samuel 25

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Samuel died and all Israel assembled to mourn for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Davidthen set off and went down to the desert of Maon.	1 Samuele morì e gli Israeliti si radunarono, fecero i riti di lutto e lo seppellirono nella sua casa a Rama. Davide si mosse e discese verso il deserto di Paran.
2 Now, there was a man in Maon whose business was at Carmel; the man was very rich: he ownedthree thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was then at Carmel, having his sheep shorn.	2 C'era a Maon un uomo che aveva le sue proprietà a Carmel e quest'uomo era molto ricco: aveva tremila pecore e mille capre. Egli si trovava a Carmel durante la tosatura del suo gregge.
3 The man's name was Nabal and his wife's Abigail. She was a woman of intel igence and beauty, butthe man was miserly and churlish. He was a Calebite.	3 Quest'uomo si chiamava di nome Nabal e sua moglie Abigail; la donna era dotata di buon senso e di bell'aspetto, mentre l'uomo era duro e di cattive maniere; era un calebita.
4 When David heard in the desert that Nabal was at his sheepshearing,	4 Quando Davide udì nel deserto che Nabal stava tosando il suo gregge,
5 he sent ten men off, having said to them, 'Go up to Carmel, visit Nabal and greet him from me.	5 mandò dieci giovanotti. Davide disse ai giovanotti: "Salite a Carmel, andate da Nabal e salutatelo a nome mio.
6 And this is what you are to say to my brother, "Peace to you, peace to your family, peace to al that isyours!	6 Direte così: "Evviva! Pace a te, pace alla tua casa, pace a tutte le tue cose!
7 I hear that you now have the shearers; your shepherds were with us recently: we did not molest them,nor did they lose anything al the while they were at Carmel.	7 Ho inteso dire adesso che hai i tosatori; or quando i tuoi pastori sono stati presso di noi, non li abbiamo molestati e non è mancato niente delle loro cose durante tutto il tempo della loro permanenza a Carmel.
8 Ask your young men and they wil tel you. I hope that you will give the men a welcome, coming as wedo on a festival. Whatever you have to hand please give to your servants and to your son David." '	8 Interroga i tuoi servi e ti informeranno. Trovino questi giovanotti benevolenza ai tuoi occhi, perché siamo venuti per una bella festa! Dona, di grazia, ciò che ti capita in mano ai tuoi servi e al tuo figlio Davide".
9 David's men went and said al this to Nabal for David, and waited.	9 I giovanotti di Davide, arrivati, riferirono a Nabal tutte quelle parole nel nome di Davide e rimasero in attesa.
10 Nabal retorted to the men in David's service, 'Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse?	10 Ma Nabal rispose ai servi di Davide: "Chi è Davide e chi è il figlio di Iesse? Oggi sono tanti i servi che scappano dalla presenza dei loro padroni!
11 There are many servants nowadays who run away from their masters. Am I to take my bread and mywine and the meat that I have slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who come from I know not where?'	11 Prenderò dunque il pane mio e l'acqua mia, gli animali miei che ho ucciso per i miei tosatori e dovrò darli a gente che non so di dove sia?".
12 David's men turned on their heels and went back, and on their arrival told him exactly what had beensaid.	12 I giovanotti di Davide ripresero la loro strada e fecero ritorno; al loro arrivo gli riferirono tutte quelle cose.
13 David then said to his men, 'Every man buckle on his sword!' And they buckled on their swords, andDavid buckled on his too; about four hundred fol owed David while two hundred stayed with the baggage.	13 Davide disse ai suoi uomini: "Ognuno cinga la spada!". Essi cinsero ognuno la propria spada, anche Davide cinse la sua spada; circa quattrocento uomini salirono dietro Davide e duecento rimasero presso i bagagli.
14 Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife. He said, 'David sent messengers from thedesert to greet our master, but he flared up at them.	14 Uno dei servi riferì ad Abigail, moglie di Nabal, così: "Ecco, Davide ha mandato messaggeri dal deserto per salutare il nostro padrone, ma lui ha inveito contro di loro.
15 Now, these men were very good to us; they did not molest us and we lost nothing al the time we hadanything to do with them while we were out in the country.	15 Questi uomini invece sono stati molto buoni con noi, non abbiamo ricevuto molestie né ci è mancato niente per tutto il tempo che abbiamo girovagato insieme con loro quando stavamo nella steppa.
16 Night and day, they were like a rampart to us, al the time we were with them, minding the sheep.	16 Essi sono stati intorno a noi come un muro di protezione notte e giorno per tutto il tempo in cui siamo stati presso di loro mentre pascolavamo il gregge.
17 So now make up your mind what you should do, for the ruin of our master and his whole family is acertainty, and he is such a brute that no one can say a word to him.'	17 Ma ora interessati e vedi quello che puoi fare: certamente è preparata una sventura per il nostro padrone e contro tutta la sua casa. Egli è un uomo così perverso che non gli si può parlare".
18 Abigail hastily took two hundred loaves, two skins of wine, five sheep ready prepared, five measuresof roasted grain, a hundred bunches of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and loaded them on donkeys.	18 Allora Abigail prese in fretta duecento pani, due otri di vino, cinque pecore belle e cucinate, cinque misure di semi abbrustoliti, cento grappoli di uva passa e duecento tortelle di fichi secchi e li caricò sugli asini.
19 She said to her servants, 'Go on ahead, I shal fol ow you' -- but she did not tel her husband Nabal.	19 Poi disse ai suoi servi: "Precedetemi, io vengo dietro a voi!". Essa non disse niente a suo marito Nabal.
20 As she was riding her donkey down behind a fold in the mountain, David and his men happened tobe coming down in her direction; and she met them.	20 Ora mentre costei, cavalcando un asino, scendeva riparata dal monte, Davide e i suoi uomini stavano discendendo verso di lei ed essa si imbatté in loro.
21 Now, David had decided, 'It was a waste of time my guarding al this man's property in the desert sothat he lost nothing at all! He has repaid me bad for good.	21 Davide aveva detto: "Ah, mi sono ingannato a proteggere tutto quello che appartiene a questo tale nel deserto, e non gli è mancato niente di tutto quello che aveva! Mi ha reso male per bene!
22 May God bring unnameable il s on David and worse ones, too, if by morning I leave a single manjackalive of all who belong to him!'	22 Dio faccia così a Davide e peggio ancora, se di tutto quello che possiede lascerò sussistere fino al mattino uno che faccia acqua al muro".
23 As soon as Abigail saw David, she quickly dismounted from the donkey and, falling on her face infront of David, prostrated herself on the ground.	23 Quando Abigail vide Davide, scese in fretta dall'asino e si prostrò fino a terra davanti a Davide.
24 She fell at his feet and said, 'Let me take the blame, my lord. Let your servant speak in your ear;listen to what your servant has to say!	24 Cadendo ai suoi piedi disse: "Mia, o mio signore, mia è la colpa! Che la tua serva possa parlare alle tue orecchie, e tu ascolta le parole della tua serva.
25 My lord, please pay no attention to this brute Nabal for his nature is like his name; "Brute" is hisname and brutal he is. But I, your servant, did not see the men whom my lord sent.	25 Il mio padrone non faccia caso a quella razza d'uomo, a Nabal, perché lui è proprio come il suo nome: si chiama stolto ed è pieno di stoltezza. Ma io, tua serva, non ho veduto i giovani che il mio signore ha inviato.
26 And now, my lord, as Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, by Yahweh who kept you from the crimeof bloodshed and from taking vengeance with your own hand, may your enemies and al those ill-disposedtowards you become like Nabal.	26 Ma ora, per la vita del Signore e per la tua anima, o mio signore, poiché il Signore ti ha impedito di giungere al sangue e di farti giustizia di tua propria mano, siano come Nabal i tuoi nemici e quelli che cercano il male del mio signore.
27 As for the present which your servant has brought my lord, I should like this to be given to the men inyour service.	27 E ora, questa benedizione che la tua serva ha portato al mio signore, è donata ai giovani che camminano sui passi del mio signore.
28 Please forgive your servant for any offence I have given you, for Yahweh wil certainly assure you ofa lasting dynasty, since you are fighting Yahweh's battles and no fault has been found in you throughout yourlife.	28 Perdona la mancanza della tua serva! Sì, certamente il Signore farà al mio signore una casa stabile, perché il mio signore combatte le guerre del Signore, e non si trova in te alcun male fin dai tuoi primi giorni.
29 Should anyone set out to hunt you down and try to kil you, your life wil be kept close in the wal et oflife with Yahweh your God, while your enemies' lives he wil fling out of the pouch of the sling.	29 Un uomo si è levato per inseguirti e per fare ricerca della tua vita, ma la vita del mio signore è racchiusa nello scrigno della vita presso il Signore tuo Dio, mentre la vita dei tuoi nemici la scaraventerà via con il cavo della fionda.
30 Once Yahweh has done for you al the good things which he has said he will do for you, and madeyou ruler of Israel,	30 E quando avverrà che il Signore avrà fatto al mio signore tutto quel bene che ha predetto a tuo riguardo, costituendoti principe su Israele,
31 you must have no anxiety, my lord, no remorse, over having wantonly shed blood, over having takena revenge. When Yahweh has done wel by you, then remember your servant.'	31 allora questa cosa non sarà di rimorso e di ansietà per il cuore del mio signore: l'aver effuso il sangue inutilmente e l'esserti fatto giustizia con la tua mano, o mio signore. E quando il Signore avrà fatto del bene al mio signore, ti ricorderai della tua serva".
32 David said to Abigail, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!	32 Davide rispose ad Abigail: "Benedetto è il Signore, Dio d'Israele, che ti ha mandato oggi incontro a me!
33 Blessed be your wisdom and blessed you yourself for today having restrained me from the crime ofbloodshed and from exacting revenge!	33 Benedetto il tuo senno e benedetta tu stessa che mi hai impedito quest'oggi di giungere al sangue e di farmi giustizia di mia mano.
34 But as Yahweh, God of Israel, lives, who prevented me from harming you, had you not hurried out tomeet me, I swear Nabal would not have had a single manjack left alive by morning!'	34 Altrimenti, per la vita del Signore, Dio d'Israele, che mi ha trattenuto dal farti del male, se tu non ti fossi affrettata a venirmi incontro, non sarebbe rimasto certo a Nabal fino alla luce del mattino uno che facesse acqua al muro".
35 David then accepted what she had brought him and said, 'Go home in peace; yes, I have listened toyou and have pardoned you.'	35 Allora Davide accettò dalla sua mano quelle cose che ella gli aveva portato e le disse: "Ritorna in pace alla tua casa; vedi, ho dato ascolto alla tua voce e ho accolto la tua presenza".
36 Abigail returned to Nabal. He was holding a feast, a princely feast, in his house; Nabal was in highspirits, and as he was very drunk she told him nothing at al til it was daylight.	36 Abigail ritornò da Nabal: egli teneva un convito nella sua casa come un convito di re: Nabal aveva il cuore allegro ed era ubriaco fradicio. Così essa non gli fece sapere niente, né poco né molto, fino alla luce del mattino.
37 In the morning, when Nabal's wine had left him and his wife told him everything that had happened,his heart died within him and he became like a stone.	37 Ma al mattino, quando i fumi del vino erano svaniti da Nabal, sua moglie gli raccontò l'accaduto; allora il cuore gli venne meno in petto ed egli diventò come pietra.
38 About ten days later Yahweh struck Nabal, and he died.	38 In capo a una decina di giorni il Signore percosse Nabal e questi morì.
39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, 'Blessed be Yahweh for having defended my causeover the insult which I received from Nabal, and for having restrained his servant from doing wrong! Yahweh hasmade Nabal's wickedness rebound on his own head!'	39 Quando Davide udì che Nabal era morto, esclamò: "Benedetto il Signore che mi ha vendicato dell'oltraggio ricevuto da Nabal e ha preservato il suo servo da un misfatto! Il Signore ha fatto ricadere sulla sua testa il male di Nabal". Allora Davide mandò a parlare ad Abigail per prendersela in moglie.
40 David then sent Abigail an offer of marriage. When the men in David's service came to Abigail atCarmel, they said, 'David has sent us to take you to him, to be his wife.'	40 I servi di Davide andarono da Abigail a Carmel e le parlarono così: "Davide ci manda a prenderti per sua moglie".
41 She stood up, then prostrated herself on the ground. 'Consider your servant a slave', she said, 'towash the feet of my lord's servants.'	41 Essa si levò, si prostrò con la faccia a terra e rispose: "Ecco, la tua serva è come schiava per lavare i piedi dei servi del mio signore".
42 Quickly Abigail stood up again and mounted a donkey; fol owed by five of her servant-girls, shefol owed David's messengers and became his wife.	42 Abigail si alzò in fretta e montò sull'asino; mentre cinque sue serve andavano al suo seguito, ella andava dietro ai messaggeri di Davide. Così diventò sua moglie.
43 David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel and he kept them both as wives.	43 Davide aveva preso anche Achinoàm di Izreèl: tutte e due furono sue mogli.
44 Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, from Gal im.	44 Saul aveva dato sua figlia Mikal, moglie di Davide, a Palti, figlio di Lais, originario di Gallim.
