1 Samuel 25

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Samuel died and all Israel assembled to mourn for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Davidthen set off and went down to the desert of Maon.	1 - Frattanto moriva Samuele e tutto il popolo d'Israele si riunì per piangerlo e per seppellirlo nella sua proprietà, in Ramata. Levatosi, Davide discese nel deserto di Faran.
2 Now, there was a man in Maon whose business was at Carmel; the man was very rich: he ownedthree thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was then at Carmel, having his sheep shorn.	2 Abitava nel deserto di Maon un certo tale che aveva possedimenti in Carmelo; quest'uomo era ricchissimo, aveva tremila pecore e mille capre; e il suo gregge si doveva tosare a Carmelo.
3 The man's name was Nabal and his wife's Abigail. She was a woman of intel igence and beauty, butthe man was miserly and churlish. He was a Calebite.	3 Egli aveva nome Nabal e sua moglie si chiamava Abigail, donna assai prudente e bella; ma suo marito, che apparteneva alla discendenza di Caleb era duro, pieno di cattiveria e di malizia.
4 When David heard in the desert that Nabal was at his sheepshearing,	4 Avendo dunque Davide udito, mentre era nel deserto, che Nabal tosava il suo gregge
5 he sent ten men off, having said to them, 'Go up to Carmel, visit Nabal and greet him from me.	5 gli spedì dieci giovani, a cui aveva detto: «Salite a Carmelo e, presentandovi a Nabal, salutatelo da parte mia pacificamente
6 And this is what you are to say to my brother, "Peace to you, peace to your family, peace to al that isyours!	6 e ditegli così: - Pace sia ai miei fratelli, a te, alla tua casa e a tutto quello che hai.
7 I hear that you now have the shearers; your shepherds were with us recently: we did not molest them,nor did they lose anything al the while they were at Carmel.	7 Ho inteso come i tuoi pastori, che stettero con noi nel deserto, facciano la tosatura. Noi non abbiamo mai recato loro molestia, nè mai venne loro a mancare un solo capo di bestiame in tutto il tempo che furono con noi in Carmelo.
8 Ask your young men and they wil tel you. I hope that you will give the men a welcome, coming as wedo on a festival. Whatever you have to hand please give to your servants and to your son David." '	8 Chiedine pure ai tuoi uomini e te lo diranno. Ora quindi i tuoi servi sperano di trovar grazia agli occhi tuoi, poichè siam venuti in giorno tanto opportuno; dà ai tuoi servi e al figliuol tuo Davide tutto ciò che ti viene alla mano -».
9 David's men went and said al this to Nabal for David, and waited.	9 Venuti da Nabal gli uomini di Davide ripeterono in nome di lui tutte queste cose e poi tacquero;
10 Nabal retorted to the men in David's service, 'Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse?	10 e Nabal rispose ai servi di Davide: «E chi è Davide? E chi è il figlio di Isai? Oggi sono cresciuti i servi che fuggono dai loro padroni.
11 There are many servants nowadays who run away from their masters. Am I to take my bread and mywine and the meat that I have slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who come from I know not where?'	11 Prenderò io il mio pane e la mia acqua e le carni delle mie pecore ammazzate per i miei tosatori per darle a uomini che non so donde vengano?».
12 David's men turned on their heels and went back, and on their arrival told him exactly what had beensaid.	12 Gli uomini di Davide rifecero allora la strada e di ritorno vennero ad annunziare a Davide tutto ciò che Nabal aveva detto.
13 David then said to his men, 'Every man buckle on his sword!' And they buckled on their swords, andDavid buckled on his too; about four hundred fol owed David while two hundred stayed with the baggage.	13 Disse Davide ai suoi servi: «Ciascuno si cinga della sua spada». Ognuno si cinse la spada; anche Davide prese la sua e si mise alla testa di quasi quattrocento uomini, mentre duecento rimasero a custodire i bagagli.
14 Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife. He said, 'David sent messengers from thedesert to greet our master, but he flared up at them.	14 Abigail però, la moglie di Nabal fu informata da uno de' suoi servi, che disse: «Ecco, Davide ha mandato dei messaggeri dal deserto per salutare il nostro padrone, ma egli li trattò duramente.
15 Now, these men were very good to us; they did not molest us and we lost nothing al the time we hadanything to do with them while we were out in the country.	15 Eppure quegli uomini sono stati abbastanza buoni verso di noi nè ci hanno molestati; nè mai per tutto il tempo che fummo con loro nel deserto ci mancò la più piccola cosa,
16 Night and day, they were like a rampart to us, al the time we were with them, minding the sheep.	16 ma furono sempre per noi un baluardo di giorno e di notte per tutto il tempo che pascolammo presso di loro il gregge.
17 So now make up your mind what you should do, for the ruin of our master and his whole family is acertainty, and he is such a brute that no one can say a word to him.'	17 Perciò guarda bene e rifletti a ciò che fai, poichè è al colmo la malizia contro tuo marito e contro la tua casa; è figlio di Belial cosicchè nessuno gli può parlare».
18 Abigail hastily took two hundred loaves, two skins of wine, five sheep ready prepared, five measuresof roasted grain, a hundred bunches of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and loaded them on donkeys.	18 Abigail allora si affrettò e presi duecento pani e due otri di vino e cinque arieti cotti e cinque misure di grano tostato e cento penzoli di uva passa e duecento masse di fichi secchi, ne caricò alcuni asini
19 She said to her servants, 'Go on ahead, I shal fol ow you' -- but she did not tel her husband Nabal.	19 e disse ai suoi servi: «Precedetemi; io verrò dopo di voi». Ma non disse nulla a Nabal suo marito.
20 As she was riding her donkey down behind a fold in the mountain, David and his men happened tobe coming down in her direction; and she met them.	20 Mentre montata sull'asino discendeva ai piedi del monte, Davide e i suoi le venivano incontro ed ella si trovò a faccia a faccia con loro.
21 Now, David had decided, 'It was a waste of time my guarding al this man's property in the desert sothat he lost nothing at all! He has repaid me bad for good.	21 Davide diceva: «Invano veramente ho risparmiato tutto ciò che costui aveva là nel deserto in modo che non perisse nulla di tutto ciò che gli apparteneva; ora mi ha reso male per bene.
22 May God bring unnameable il s on David and worse ones, too, if by morning I leave a single manjackalive of all who belong to him!'	22 Che Iddio faccia questo e peggio ai nemici di Davide, se di tutto ciò che appartiene a lui lascerò fino a domani mattina, sia pure uno che orini alla muraglia!».
23 As soon as Abigail saw David, she quickly dismounted from the donkey and, falling on her face infront of David, prostrated herself on the ground.	23 Come Abigail vide Davide, si affrettò a discendere dall'asino, e gettatasi dinanzi a Davide colla faccia per terra, si prostrò,
24 She fell at his feet and said, 'Let me take the blame, my lord. Let your servant speak in your ear;listen to what your servant has to say!	24 e gli cadde ai piedi, dicendo: «Su di me cada, o signore, questa iniquità; ma lascia, te ne prego, che parli la tua ancella e tu ascolta le parole della tua serva.
25 My lord, please pay no attention to this brute Nabal for his nature is like his name; "Brute" is hisname and brutal he is. But I, your servant, did not see the men whom my lord sent.	25 Non badar, te ne prego, o mio signore, a quell'iniquo uomo di Nabal, poichè, come lo dice il nome, è uno stolto e la stoltezza è con lui. Io però tua serva non vidi i servi mandati da te, mio signore.
26 And now, my lord, as Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, by Yahweh who kept you from the crimeof bloodshed and from taking vengeance with your own hand, may your enemies and al those ill-disposedtowards you become like Nabal.	26 Perciò ora, signor mio, viva il Signore e viva tu pure! Egli ti ha impedito di spandere il sangue e ha trattenuto la tua mano. Che i tuoi nemici e quanti meditano del male contro il mio signore diventino come Nabal.
27 As for the present which your servant has brought my lord, I should like this to be given to the men inyour service.	27 Accetta pertanto questa benedizione che la tua ancella portò a te, mio signore, perchè tu la dia ai servi che vengono dietro a te, mio signore.
28 Please forgive your servant for any offence I have given you, for Yahweh wil certainly assure you ofa lasting dynasty, since you are fighting Yahweh's battles and no fault has been found in you throughout yourlife.	28 Perdona la colpa della tua serva e il Signore certamente concederà a te, mio signore, una famiglia stabile, poichè tu, o mio signore, combatti le battaglie del Signore; nè mai si trovi in te malizia alcuna in tutti i giorni della tua vita.
29 Should anyone set out to hunt you down and try to kil you, your life wil be kept close in the wal et oflife with Yahweh your God, while your enemies' lives he wil fling out of the pouch of the sling.	29 Che se alcuno insorgesse per perseguitarti e attentare a' tuoi giorni, la vita del mio signore sarà custodita come nel sacchetto dei viventi presso il Signore Dio tuo, mentre la vita de' tuoi nemici sarà travolta come nella furia di roteante fionda.
30 Once Yahweh has done for you al the good things which he has said he will do for you, and madeyou ruler of Israel,	30 Quando poi il Signore farà a te mio padrone tutto il bene che t'ha promesso e ti costituirà capo sopra Israele,
31 you must have no anxiety, my lord, no remorse, over having wantonly shed blood, over having takena revenge. When Yahweh has done wel by you, then remember your servant.'	31 non sarà per te un rimorso nè uno scrupolo di cuore per il mio padrone l'aver versato sangue innocente o l'esserti vendicato di tua mano; e quando il Signore avrà ricolmo de' suoi beni il mio padrone, ricordati della tua ancella».
32 David said to Abigail, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!	32 Davide rispose ad Abigail: «Sia benedetto il Signore Dio di Israele, che ti mandò oggi ad incontrarmi e benedetta la tua loquela,
33 Blessed be your wisdom and blessed you yourself for today having restrained me from the crime ofbloodshed and from exacting revenge!	33 e benedetta tu che mi impedisti di versare oggi il sangue e di vendicarmi di mia mano:
34 But as Yahweh, God of Israel, lives, who prevented me from harming you, had you not hurried out tomeet me, I swear Nabal would not have had a single manjack left alive by morning!'	34 altrimenti, viva il Signore Dio di Israele, che m'impedì di farti alcun male, se tu non fossi venuta così presto incontro a me, prima di domani a Nabal non sarebbe rimasto neppure uno che orinasse alla muraglia».
35 David then accepted what she had brought him and said, 'Go home in peace; yes, I have listened toyou and have pardoned you.'	35 Davide ricevette dalla mano di lei quanto aveva essa portato e le disse: «Tornatene tranquilla a casa; ecco, io ho dato retta alla tua parola e ho avuto riguardo di te».
36 Abigail returned to Nabal. He was holding a feast, a princely feast, in his house; Nabal was in highspirits, and as he was very drunk she told him nothing at al til it was daylight.	36 Venuta Abigail da Nabal, ecco, egli faceva un banchetto in casa sua, un banchetto regale. Nabal era oltremodo allegro, perchè era molto ubriaco; ed ella non gli parlò nè molto nè poco fino al mattino.
37 In the morning, when Nabal's wine had left him and his wife told him everything that had happened,his heart died within him and he became like a stone.	37 Allo spuntar del giorno quando Nabal ebbe ormai smaltito il vino, la moglie gli raccontò queste cose; il suo cuore ricevette tal colpo mortale che s'irrigidì come un sasso;
38 About ten days later Yahweh struck Nabal, and he died.	38 e dopo appena dieci giorni il Signore colpì Nabal, e questi morì.
39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, 'Blessed be Yahweh for having defended my causeover the insult which I received from Nabal, and for having restrained his servant from doing wrong! Yahweh hasmade Nabal's wickedness rebound on his own head!'	39 Quando Davide seppe che Nabal era morto, disse: «Benedetto il Signore che ha giudicato la causa del mio obbrobrio proveniente dalla mano di Nabal, e preservò il suo servo dal male e ha riversato sul capo di Nabal tutta la nequizia di lui». Mandò poi Davide a parlare ad Abigail per prendersela in moglie.
40 David then sent Abigail an offer of marriage. When the men in David's service came to Abigail atCarmel, they said, 'David has sent us to take you to him, to be his wife.'	40 Venuti pertanto i servi di Davide ad Abigail a Carmelo le parlarono e le dissero: «Davide ci ha mandati da te perchè vuol prenderti in sua moglie».
41 She stood up, then prostrated herself on the ground. 'Consider your servant a slave', she said, 'towash the feet of my lord's servants.'	41 Essa si alzò, si prostrò fino a terra e disse: «Ecco, la tua serva siati quasi ancella per lavare i piedi dei servi del mio padrone»:
42 Quickly Abigail stood up again and mounted a donkey; fol owed by five of her servant-girls, shefol owed David's messengers and became his wife.	42 poi si affrettò, salì sull'asino e accompagnata da cinque donzelle tenne tosto dietro ai messi di Davide; e divenne sua sposa.
43 David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel and he kept them both as wives.	43 Davide si era presa anche Achinoam di Jezrael; così entrambe furono sue mogli;
44 Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, from Gal im.	44 laddove Micol figlia di Saul e moglie di Davide, era stata data da Saul a Falti figlio di Lais, originario di Gallim.
