1 Samuel 25

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Samuel died and all Israel assembled to mourn for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Davidthen set off and went down to the desert of Maon.	1 Samuele morì, e tutto Israele si radunò e fece il lamento su di lui. Lo seppellirono presso la sua casa a Rama. Davide si alzò e scese verso il deserto di Paran.
2 Now, there was a man in Maon whose business was at Carmel; the man was very rich: he ownedthree thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was then at Carmel, having his sheep shorn.	2 Vi era a Maon un uomo che possedeva beni a Carmel; costui era molto ricco, aveva tremila pecore e mille capre e si trovava a Carmel per tosare il gregge.
3 The man's name was Nabal and his wife's Abigail. She was a woman of intel igence and beauty, butthe man was miserly and churlish. He was a Calebite.	3 Quest’uomo si chiamava Nabal e sua moglie Abigàil. La donna era assennata e di bell’aspetto, ma il marito era rude e di brutte maniere; era un Calebita.
4 When David heard in the desert that Nabal was at his sheepshearing,	4 Davide nel deserto sentì che Nabal era alla tosatura del gregge.
5 he sent ten men off, having said to them, 'Go up to Carmel, visit Nabal and greet him from me.	5 Allora Davide inviò dieci domestici; Davide disse a questi domestici: «Salite a Carmel, andate da Nabal e chiedetegli a mio nome se sta bene.
6 And this is what you are to say to my brother, "Peace to you, peace to your family, peace to al that isyours!	6 Voi direte così al mio fratello: “Pace a te e pace alla tua casa e pace a quanto ti appartiene!
7 I hear that you now have the shearers; your shepherds were with us recently: we did not molest them,nor did they lose anything al the while they were at Carmel.	7 Ho sentito appunto che stanno facendo per te la tosatura. Ebbene, quando i tuoi pastori sono stati con noi, non abbiamo recato loro alcuna offesa e niente è stato loro sottratto finché sono stati a Carmel.
8 Ask your young men and they wil tel you. I hope that you will give the men a welcome, coming as wedo on a festival. Whatever you have to hand please give to your servants and to your son David." '	8 Interroga i tuoi domestici e ti informeranno. Questi domestici trovino grazia ai tuoi occhi, perché siamo giunti in un giorno lieto. Da’, ti prego, quanto puoi dare ai tuoi servi e al tuo figlio Davide”».
9 David's men went and said al this to Nabal for David, and waited.	9 I domestici di Davide andarono e fecero a Nabal tutto quel discorso a nome di Davide e attesero.
10 Nabal retorted to the men in David's service, 'Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse?	10 Ma Nabal rispose ai servi di Davide: «Chi è Davide e chi è il figlio di Iesse? Oggi sono troppi i servi che vanno via dai loro padroni.
11 There are many servants nowadays who run away from their masters. Am I to take my bread and mywine and the meat that I have slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who come from I know not where?'	11 Devo prendere il pane, l’acqua e la carne che ho preparato per i tosatori e darli a gente che non so da dove venga?».
12 David's men turned on their heels and went back, and on their arrival told him exactly what had beensaid.	12 I domestici di Davide rifecero la strada, tornarono indietro e gli riferirono tutto questo discorso.
13 David then said to his men, 'Every man buckle on his sword!' And they buckled on their swords, andDavid buckled on his too; about four hundred fol owed David while two hundred stayed with the baggage.	13 Allora Davide disse ai suoi uomini: «Cingete tutti la spada!». Tutti cinsero la spada e Davide cinse la sua e partirono dietro a Davide circa quattrocento uomini. Duecento rimasero a guardia dei bagagli.
14 Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife. He said, 'David sent messengers from thedesert to greet our master, but he flared up at them.	14 Ma Abigàil, la moglie di Nabal, fu avvertita da uno dei domestici, che le disse: «Ecco, Davide ha inviato messaggeri dal deserto per salutare il nostro padrone, ma egli ha inveito contro di loro.
15 Now, these men were very good to us; they did not molest us and we lost nothing al the time we hadanything to do with them while we were out in the country.	15 Veramente questi domestici sono stati molto buoni con noi; non ci hanno recato offesa e non ci è stato sottratto niente finché siamo stati con loro, quando eravamo in campagna.
16 Night and day, they were like a rampart to us, al the time we were with them, minding the sheep.	16 Sono stati per noi come un muro di difesa di notte e di giorno, finché siamo stati con loro a pascolare il gregge.
17 So now make up your mind what you should do, for the ruin of our master and his whole family is acertainty, and he is such a brute that no one can say a word to him.'	17 Ora esamina bene ciò che devi fare, perché pende qualche male sul nostro padrone e su tutta la sua casa. Egli è un uomo perverso e non gli si può parlare».
18 Abigail hastily took two hundred loaves, two skins of wine, five sheep ready prepared, five measuresof roasted grain, a hundred bunches of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and loaded them on donkeys.	18 Abigàil allora prese in fretta duecento pani, due otri di vino, cinque pecore già pronte, cinque sea di grano tostato, cento grappoli di uva passa e duecento schiacciate di fichi secchi, e li caricò sugli asini.
19 She said to her servants, 'Go on ahead, I shal fol ow you' -- but she did not tel her husband Nabal.	19 Poi disse ai domestici: «Precedetemi, io vi seguirò». Ma non informò il marito Nabal.
20 As she was riding her donkey down behind a fold in the mountain, David and his men happened tobe coming down in her direction; and she met them.	20 Ora, mentre ella sul dorso di un asino scendeva lungo un sentiero nascosto della montagna, Davide e i suoi uomini scendevano di fronte a lei ed essa s’incontrò con loro.
21 Now, David had decided, 'It was a waste of time my guarding al this man's property in the desert sothat he lost nothing at all! He has repaid me bad for good.	21 Davide andava dicendo: «Dunque ho custodito invano tutto ciò che appartiene a costui nel deserto; niente fu sottratto di ciò che gli appartiene ed egli mi rende male per bene.
22 May God bring unnameable il s on David and worse ones, too, if by morning I leave a single manjackalive of all who belong to him!'	22 Tanto faccia Dio a Davide e ancora peggio, se di tutti i suoi lascerò sopravvivere fino al mattino un solo maschio!».
23 As soon as Abigail saw David, she quickly dismounted from the donkey and, falling on her face infront of David, prostrated herself on the ground.	23 Appena Abigàil vide Davide, smontò in fretta dall’asino, cadde con la faccia davanti a Davide e si prostrò a terra.
24 She fell at his feet and said, 'Let me take the blame, my lord. Let your servant speak in your ear;listen to what your servant has to say!	24 Caduta ai suoi piedi disse: «Ti prego, mio signore, sono io colpevole! Lascia che parli la tua schiava al tuo orecchio e tu ascolta le parole della tua schiava.
25 My lord, please pay no attention to this brute Nabal for his nature is like his name; "Brute" is hisname and brutal he is. But I, your servant, did not see the men whom my lord sent.	25 Non faccia caso il mio signore a quell’uomo perverso che è Nabal, perché egli è come il suo nome: stolto si chiama e stoltezza è in lui; io, tua schiava, non avevo visto, o mio signore, i tuoi domestici che avevi mandato.
26 And now, my lord, as Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, by Yahweh who kept you from the crimeof bloodshed and from taking vengeance with your own hand, may your enemies and al those ill-disposedtowards you become like Nabal.	26 Ora, mio signore, per la vita di Dio e per la tua vita, poiché Dio ti ha impedito di giungere al sangue e di farti giustizia da te stesso, ebbene ora siano come Nabal i tuoi nemici e coloro che cercano di fare il male al mio signore.
27 As for the present which your servant has brought my lord, I should like this to be given to the men inyour service.	27 E ora questo dono che la tua schiava porta al mio signore, fa’ che sia dato ai domestici che seguono i passi del mio signore.
28 Please forgive your servant for any offence I have given you, for Yahweh wil certainly assure you ofa lasting dynasty, since you are fighting Yahweh's battles and no fault has been found in you throughout yourlife.	28 Perdona la colpa della tua schiava. Certo il Signore edificherà al mio signore una casa stabile, perché il mio signore combatte le battaglie del Signore, né si troverà alcun male in te per tutti i giorni della tua vita.
29 Should anyone set out to hunt you down and try to kil you, your life wil be kept close in the wal et oflife with Yahweh your God, while your enemies' lives he wil fling out of the pouch of the sling.	29 Se qualcuno insorgerà a perseguitarti e ad attentare alla tua vita, la vita del mio signore sarà conservata nello scrigno dei viventi presso il Signore, tuo Dio, mentre la vita dei tuoi nemici egli la scaglierà via come dal cavo della fionda.
30 Once Yahweh has done for you al the good things which he has said he will do for you, and madeyou ruler of Israel,	30 Certo, quando il Signore ti avrà concesso tutto il bene che ha detto a tuo riguardo e ti avrà costituito capo d’Israele,
31 you must have no anxiety, my lord, no remorse, over having wantonly shed blood, over having takena revenge. When Yahweh has done wel by you, then remember your servant.'	31 non sia d’inciampo o di rimorso al mio signore l’aver versato invano il sangue e l’essersi il mio signore fatto giustizia da se stesso. Il Signore farà prosperare il mio signore, ma tu vorrai ricordarti della tua schiava».
32 David said to Abigail, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!	32 Davide disse ad Abigàil: «Benedetto il Signore, Dio d’Israele, che ti ha mandato oggi incontro a me.
33 Blessed be your wisdom and blessed you yourself for today having restrained me from the crime ofbloodshed and from exacting revenge!	33 Benedetto il tuo senno e benedetta tu che sei riuscita a impedirmi oggi di giungere al sangue e di farmi giustizia da me.
34 But as Yahweh, God of Israel, lives, who prevented me from harming you, had you not hurried out tomeet me, I swear Nabal would not have had a single manjack left alive by morning!'	34 Viva sempre il Signore, Dio d’Israele, che mi ha impedito di farti del male; perché, se non fossi venuta in fretta incontro a me, non sarebbe rimasto a Nabal allo spuntar del giorno un solo maschio».
35 David then accepted what she had brought him and said, 'Go home in peace; yes, I have listened toyou and have pardoned you.'	35 Davide prese poi dalle mani di lei quanto gli aveva portato e le disse: «Torna a casa in pace. Vedi: ho ascoltato la tua voce e ho rasserenato il tuo volto».
36 Abigail returned to Nabal. He was holding a feast, a princely feast, in his house; Nabal was in highspirits, and as he was very drunk she told him nothing at al til it was daylight.	36 Abigàil tornò da Nabal: questi teneva in casa un banchetto come un banchetto da re. Il suo cuore era soddisfatto ed egli era fin troppo ubriaco. Ella non gli disse né tanto né poco fino allo spuntar del giorno.
37 In the morning, when Nabal's wine had left him and his wife told him everything that had happened,his heart died within him and he became like a stone.	37 Il mattino dopo, quando Nabal ebbe smaltito il vino, la moglie gli narrò la faccenda. Allora il cuore gli si tramortì nel petto ed egli rimase come una pietra.
38 About ten days later Yahweh struck Nabal, and he died.	38 Dieci giorni dopo il Signore colpì Nabal ed egli morì.
39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, 'Blessed be Yahweh for having defended my causeover the insult which I received from Nabal, and for having restrained his servant from doing wrong! Yahweh hasmade Nabal's wickedness rebound on his own head!'	39 Quando Davide sentì che Nabal era morto, esclamò: «Benedetto il Signore che ha difeso la mia causa per l’ingiuria fattami da Nabal e ha trattenuto il suo servo dal male e ha rivolto sul capo di Nabal la sua cattiveria». Poi Davide mandò messaggeri e annunciò ad Abigàil che voleva prenderla in moglie.
40 David then sent Abigail an offer of marriage. When the men in David's service came to Abigail atCarmel, they said, 'David has sent us to take you to him, to be his wife.'	40 I servi di Davide andarono a Carmel e le dissero: «Davide ci ha mandato a prenderti, perché tu sia sua moglie».
41 She stood up, then prostrated herself on the ground. 'Consider your servant a slave', she said, 'towash the feet of my lord's servants.'	41 Ella si alzò, si prostrò con la faccia a terra e disse: «Ecco, la tua schiava diventerà una serva per lavare i piedi ai servi del mio signore».
42 Quickly Abigail stood up again and mounted a donkey; fol owed by five of her servant-girls, shefol owed David's messengers and became his wife.	42 Abigàil si preparò in fretta, poi salì su un asino e, seguita dalle sue cinque ancelle, tenne dietro ai messaggeri di Davide e divenne sua moglie.
43 David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel and he kept them both as wives.	43 Davide aveva preso anche Achinòam di Izreèl e furono tutte e due sue mogli.
44 Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, from Gal im.	44 Saul aveva dato sua figlia Mical, già moglie di Davide, a Paltì figlio di Lais, che era di Gallìm.
