1 These are the nations which Yahweh al owed to remain, by their means to put all those Israelites to thetest who had not experienced any of the Canaanite wars	1 Estos son los pueblos que Yahveh dejó subsistir para probar con ellos a Israel, a cuantos no habían conocido ninguna de las guerras de Canaán.
2 (this was only to instruct the Israelites' descendants, to teach them the art of war, those at least whohad not experienced it previously):	2 (Era sólo para que aprendieran las generaciones de los hijos de Israel, para enseñarles el arte de la guerra; por lo menos los que antes no lo habían conocido):
3 the five chiefs of the Philistines, al the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hittites who lived in therange of the Lebanon, from the uplands of Baal-Hermon to the Pass of Hamath.	3 los cinco príncipes de los filisteos y todos los cananeos, los sidonios y los hititas que vivían en el monte Líbano, desde la montaña de Baal Hermón hasta la entrada de Jamat.
4 They were used to put Israel to the test and see if they would keep the orders which Yahweh had giventheir ancestors through Moses.	4 Sirvieron para probar con ellos a Israel, a ver si guardaban los mandamientos que Yahveh había prescrito a sus padres por medio de Moisés.
5 The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites and Amorites, the Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites;	5 Y los israelitas habitaron en medio de los cananeos, hititas, amorreos, perizitas, jivitas y jebuseos;
6 they married their daughters, they gave their own sons to their daughters and they served their gods.	6 se casaron con sus hijas, dieron sus propias hijas a los hijos de aquellos y sirvieron a sus dioses.
7 The Israelites did what is evil in Yahweh's eyes. They forgot Yahweh their God and served Baals andAsherahs.	7 Los israelitas hicieron lo que desagradaba a Yahveh. Se olvidaron de Yahveh su Dios y sirvieron a los Baales y a las Aserás.
8 Then Yahweh's anger blazed out against Israel: he handed them over to Cushan-Rishathaim king ofEdom, and the Israelites were enslaved to Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years.	8 Se encendió la ira de Yahveh contra Israel y los dejó a merced de Kusán Riseatáyim, rey de Edom, y los israelitas sirvieron a Kusán Riseatáyim durante ocho años.
9 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh and Yahweh raised for the Israelites a deliverer who rescued them,Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.	9 Los israelitas clamaron a Yahveh y Yahveh suscitó a los israelitas un libertador que los salvó: Otniel, hijo de Quenaz y hermano menor de Caleb.
10 The spirit of Yahweh was on him; he became judge in Israel and set out for war. Yahweh deliveredCushan-Rishathaim king of Edom into his hands, and he triumphed over Cushan- Rishathaim.	10 El espíritu de Yahveh vino sobre él, fue juez de Israel y salió a la guerra. Yahveh puso en sus manos a Kusán Riseatáyim, rey de Edom y triumfó sobre Kusán Riseatáyim.
11 The country then had peace for forty years. Othniel son of Kenaz then died.	11 El país quedó tranquilo cuarenta años. Y murió Otniel, hijo de Quenaz.
12 Again the Israelites began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, and Yahweh strengthened Eglon kingof Moab against Israel, since they were doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes.	12 Los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo que desagradaba a Yahveh; y Yahveh fortaleció a Eglón, rey de Moab, por encima de Israel, porque hacían lo que desagradaba a Yahveh.
13 Eglon in conjunction with the sons of Ammon and Amalek marched on Israel, beat them and capturedthe City of Palm Trees.	13 A Eglón se le juntaron los hijos de Ammón y de Amalec; salió y derrotó a Israel, y tomó la ciudad de las Palmeras.
14 The Israelites were enslaved to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years.	14 Los israelitas estuvieron sometidos a Eglón, rey de Moab, dieciocho años.
15 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised a deliverer for them, Ehud son of Gera, aBenjaminite; he was left-handed. The Israelites appointed him to take their tribute to Eglon king of Moab.	15 Entonces los israelitas clamaron a Yahveh y Yahveh les suscitó un libertador: Ehúd, hijo de Guerá, benjaminita, que era zurdo. Los israelitas le encargaron de llevar el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab.
16 Ehud made himself a dagger -- it was double-edged and a foot long -- and strapped it under hisclothes on his right thigh.	16 Ehúd se hizo un puñal de dos filos, de un codo de largo, se lo ciño debajo de la ropa sobre el muslo derecho,
17 He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. This Eglon was a very fat man.	17 y presentó el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab. Eglón era un hombre muy obeso.
18 Having presented the tribute, Ehud sent away the men who had been carrying it;	18 En cuanto terminó de presentar el tributo, Ehúd mandó marchar a la gente que había llevado el tributo;
19 but he himself, on reaching the Idols which are near Gilgal, went back and said, 'I have a secretmessage for you, O king.' The king commanded silence, and al his attendants withdrew.	19 pero él, al llegar a los Idolos que hay en la región de Guilgal, volvió otra vez y dijo: «Tengo un mensaje secreto para ti ¡oh rey!» El rey respondió: ¡Silencio!» y salieron de su presencia todos los que estaban con él.
20 Ehud went up to him; he was sitting in his private room upstairs, where it was cool. Ehud said to him, 'Ihave a message from God for you, O king.' The latter immediately rose from his seat.	20 Ehúd se le acercó . El rey estaba sentado en su galería fresca particular. Ehúd le dijo: «Tengo una palabra de Dios para tí». El rey se levantó de su silla.
21 Then Ehud, reaching with his left hand, drew the dagger he was carrying on his right thigh and thrust itinto the king's belly.	21 Ehúd alargó su mano izquierda, cogió el puñal de su cadera derecha y se lo hundió en el vientre.
22 The hilt too went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, since Ehud did not pul thedagger out of his bel y again.	22 Detrás de la hoja entró incluso el mango, y la grasa se cerró sobre la hoja, pues Ehúd no le sacó el puñal del vientre. Luego escapó por la ventana.
23 Ehud went out through the privies, having shut and bolted the doors of the upstairs room behind him.	23 Ehúd salió por el pórtico; había cerrado tras de sí las puertas de la galería y echado el cerrojo.
24 When he had gone, the servants came back and looked; the doors of the upstairs room were bolted.They thought, 'He is probably covering his feet in the inner part of the cool room.'	24 Después que se fue, llegaron los criados y vieron que las puertas de la galería tenían echado el cerrojo. Y se dijeron para sí: «Sin duda se está cubriendo los pies en el aposento de la galería fresca».
25 They waited until they became embarrassed, but stil he did not open the doors of the upstairs room.Eventual y, they took the key and opened the door; and there lay their master, dead, on the ground.	25 Estuvieron esperando hasta quedar desconcertados, porque no acababan de abrirse las puertas de la galería. Cogieron la llave y abrieron. Su amo yacía en tierra, muerto.
26 Meanwhile, Ehud had got away, passed the Idols and made good his escape to safety in Seirah.	26 Mientras esperaban, Ehúd había huido: había pasado los Idolos y se había puesto a salvo en Hasseirá.
27 Once there, he sounded the horn in the highlands of Ephraim, and the Israelites came down from thehil s with him at their head.	27 En cuanto llegó tocó el cuerno en la montaña de Efraím y los israelitas bajaron con él de la montaña. El se puso al frente de ellos,
28 And he said to them, 'Follow me, because Yahweh has delivered your enemy Moab into your hands.'So they followed him, seized the fords of the Jordan against Moab and al owed no one to cross.	28 y les dijo: «Seguidme, porque Yahveh ha entregado a Moab, vuestro enemigo, en vuestras manos». Bajaron tras él, cortaron a Moab los vados del Jordán y no dejaron pasar a nadie.
29 On that occasion they beat the Moabites, some ten thousand men, all tough and seasoned fighters,and not one escaped.	29 Derrotaron en aquella ocasión a los de Moab; eran unos 10.000 hombres, todos fuertes y valientes, y no escapó ni uno.
30 That day Moab was humbled under the hand of Israel, and the country had peace for eighty years.	30 Aquél día fue humillado Moab bajo la mano de Israel, y el país quedó tranquilo ochenta años.
31 After him came Shamgar son of Anath. He routed six hundred of the Philistines with an ox-goad; hetoo was a deliverer of Israel.	31 Después de él vino Samgar, hijo de Anat. Derrotó a los filisteos, que eran seiscientos hombres, con una aguijada de bueyes; él también salvó a Israel.
