NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Now after Joshua's death, the Israelites consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Which of us is to march on theCanaanites first, to make war on them?'	1 Józsue halála után megkérdezték Izrael fiai az Urat: »Ki vonuljon fel közülünk elsőként a kánaániak ellen, hogy megkezdje a harcot?«
2 And Yahweh replied, 'Judah is to march on them first; I am delivering the country into his hands.'	2 Az Úr azt felelte: »Júda menjen fel, íme, kezébe adtam a földet.«
3 Judah then said to his brother Simeon, 'March with me into the territory al otted to me; we shall makewar on the Canaanites, and then I in my turn shal march into your territory with you.' And Simeon marched withhim.	3 Azt mondta erre Júda Simeonnak, a testvérének: »Jöjj fel velem sorsszabta földemre, és hadakozz a kánaániak ellen, hogy aztán én is elmenjek veled sors szabta földedre!« Simeon el is ment vele.
4 So Judah marched on them, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, andthey defeated them at Bezek-ten thousand of them!	4 Felvonult tehát Júda, és az Úr a kezükbe adta a kánaániakat és a perizitákat, úgyhogy Bezeknél megvertek tízezer embert.
5 At Bezek they came upon Adoni-Bezek; they joined battle with him and defeated the Canaanites andPerizzites.	5 Meglepték ugyanis Bezeknél Adonibezeket, hadakoztak ellene, és megverték a kánaániakat és a perizitákat.
6 Adoni-Bezek took to flight, but they chased and captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.	6 Adonibezek megfutamodott, de üldözőbe vették és megfogták, és levágták a keze és lába ujjait.
7 Adoni-Bezek said, 'Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up the crumbsunder my table. As I did, God does to me.' He was taken to Jerusalem, and there he died.	7 Azt mondta ekkor Adonibezek: »Hetven király szedegette asztalom alatt az étkek hulladékait, akiknek levágattam kezük s lábuk ujjait. Ahogy én cselekedtem, úgy fizetett nekem Isten.« Aztán elvitték Jeruzsálembe, és ott meghalt.
8 (The sons of Judah attacked Jerusalem and took it: they put its people to the sword and set fire to thecity.)	8 Júda fiai ugyanis hadakoztak Jeruzsálem ellen, bevették, lakóit kardélre hányták, és az egész várost felgyújtották.
9 After this the sons of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites who were living in the highlands,the Negeb and the lowlands.	9 Aztán lementek, és azok ellen a kánaániak ellen hadakoztak, akik a Hegyvidéken, a Délvidéken és az Alföldön laktak.
10 Judah next marched on the Canaanites living in Hebron -- the name of Hebron in olden days wasKiriath-Arba -- and beat Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.	10 Elment ugyanis Júda azok ellen a kánaániak ellen, akik Hebronban laktak – ennek neve régente Kirját-Arbe volt –, és megverte Sesájt, Áhimánt és Talmájt.
11 From there, he marched on the inhabitants of Debir -- the name of Debir in olden days was Kiriath-Sepher.	11 Onnan aztán tovább ment és Debir lakói ellen vonult. Ennek régi neve Kirját-Széfer (azaz Írások-városa) volt.
12 Caleb said, 'To the man who conquers and captures Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'	12 Azt mondta ekkor Káleb: »Aki megveri és elpusztítja Kirját-Széfert, annak odaadom lányomat, Áxát feleségül.«
13 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, who gave him hisdaughter Achsah as wife.	13 Amikor aztán Otoniel, Kenez fia, Káleb öccse bevette, neki adta Áxát, a lányát feleségül.
14 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'	14 Az pedig, amikor hozzáment, rábeszélte a férjét, hogy kérjen az apjától szántóföldet. A férfi leszállt a szamaráról, mire Káleb megkérdezte tőle: »Mi lelt?«
15 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springs ofwater, too!' So Caleb gave her what she wanted: the upper springs and the lower springs.	15 Ő így felelt: »Adj nekem búcsúajándékot, mert száraz földet juttattál nekem: adj vízzel öntözöttet is.« Erre Káleb neki adta a felső forrás és az alsó forrás vidékét.
16 The sons of Hobab the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, marched up with the sons of Judah from theCity of Palm Trees into the desert of Judah lying in the Negeb of Arad, where they went and settled among thepeople.	16 Mózes kenita rokonának fiai is felmentek a Pálmák városából Júda fiaival Júda osztályrészének arra a pusztájára, amely Aradtól délre van, és az amalekitákkal laktak.
17 Judah then set out with his brother Simeon. They beat the Canaanites who lived in Zephath anddelivered it over to the curse of destruction; hence the town was given the name of Hormah.	17 Júda viszont elment Simeonnal, a testvérével, s közösen megverték azokat a kánaániakat, akik Szefaátban laktak. Megölték őket, ezért a várost elnevezték Hormának (azaz Átkozottnak).
18 Judah then captured Gaza and its territory, Ashkelon and its territory, Ekron and its territory.AndYahweh was with Judah, who made himself master of the highlands;	18 Aztán Júda bevette Gázát, határával együtt, továbbá Askalont és Akkaront határukkal együtt.
19 he could not, however, dispossess the inhabitants of the plain, since they had iron chariots.	19 Az Úr tehát Júdával volt, s ő elfoglalta a Hegyvidéket. A Völgy lakóit azonban nem tudta elpusztítani, mert azoknak sok kaszás-szekerük volt.
20 As Moses had directed, Hebron was given to Caleb, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of it.	20 Hebront Kálebnek adták, amint Mózes megparancsolta, s ő eltörölte belőle Enák három fiát.
21 As regards the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not dispossess them, and theJebusites have been living in Jerusalem with the sons of Benjamin ever since.	21 Benjamin fiai azonban nem pusztították el a jebuzitákat, Jeruzsálem lakóit, így a jebuziták ott maradtak Benjamin fiai között Jeruzsálemben mind a mai napig.
22 Similarly, the House of Joseph marched on Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.	22 Felvonult József háza is Bétel ellen, és az Úr velük volt.
23 The House of Joseph made a reconnaissance of Bethel. (In olden days, the name of the town wasLuz.)	23 Amikor ugyanis körülvették a várost – azt azelőtt Lúzának hívták –,
24 The scouts saw a man coming out of the town and said to him, 'Show us how to get into the town andwe shal show you faithful love.'	24 megláttak egy embert, aki a városból jött ki, és azt mondták neki: »Mutasd meg nekünk a város bejáróját, akkor irgalmasságot cselekszünk veled.«
25 And when he had shown them a way into the town, they put the town to the sword but let the man andhis whole clan go.	25 Amikor megmutatta nekik, kardélre hányták a várost, de azt az embert és egész rokonságát elbocsátották.
26 The man went off to the country of the Hittites and built a town which he called Luz; and that has been its name ever since.	26 Amikor elbocsátották, az elment a hetiták földjére, ott várost épített, és elnevezte Lúzának; így is hívják azt mind a mai napig.
27 Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-Shean and its dependencies, nor Taanach and its dependencies,nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependencies, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependencies, nor theinhabitants of Megiddo and its dependencies; in those parts the Canaanites held their ground.	27 Manassze azonban nem törölte el Bétsánt, Tánákot és ezek leányvárosait, sem Dór lakóit meg Jeblaámot és Megiddót és ezek leányvárosait, így a kánaániak velük kezdtek lakni.
28 But when the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour, althoughthey did not dispossess them.	28 Amikor aztán Izrael megerősödött, jobbágyaivá tette, de elpusztítani nem akarta őket.
29 Nor did Ephraim dispossess the Canaanites living in Gezer; thus, the Canaanites went on living inGezer with him.	29 Efraim sem ölte meg azokat a kánaániakat, akik Gézerben laktak, hanem megtelepedett mellettük.
30 Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron or of Nahalol. The Canaanites lived on withZebulun but were subjected to forced labour.	30 Zebulon nem pusztította el Keton és Naálol lakóit, hanem a kánaániak közöttük maradtak, és csak jobbágyaikká lettek.
31 Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Acco, nor those of Sidon, of Mahalab, of Achzib, of Helbah,of Aphek or of Rehob.	31 Áser sem pusztította el Akkó, Szidon, Ahaláb, Akázíb, Helba, Áfek és Rohób lakosait,
32 So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the country, not having dispossessed them.	32 hanem megtelepedett a föld lakói, a kánaániak között, és nem ölte meg őket.
33 Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh or of Beth-Anath; they settled among theCanaanite inhabitants of the country, but the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath were subjected toforced labour for them.	33 Naftali sem pusztította el Bétsemes és Bétanát lakóit, hanem megtelepedett a föld lakói, a kánaániak között, a bétsemesiek és a bétanátiak pedig a jobbágyaik lettek.
34 The Amorites drove the Danites back into the highlands and would not let them come down into theplain.	34 Dán fiait az amoriták felszorították a Hegyvidékre, és nem adtak nekik helyet, hogy lejöhessenek a síkságra.
35 The Amorites held their ground at Har -- Heres and Shaalbim, but when the hand of the House ofJoseph grew heavier, they were subjected to forced labour. (	35 Az amoriták a Háresz hegyen, Ajjalonban és Sálebímben laktak. József házának a keze azonban rájuk nehezedett, és ők annak jobbágyaivá lettek.
36 The territory of the Edomites begins at the Ascent of Scorpions, runs to the Rock and continues onupwards.)	36 Az amoritáké volt Skorpió-magaslattól, a Sziklától fölfelé eső terület.
