NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now after Joshua's death, the Israelites consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Which of us is to march on theCanaanites first, to make war on them?'	1 Después de la muerte de Josué, los israelitas consultaron al Señor, diciendo: «¿Quién de nosotros será el primero en subir a luchar contra los cananeos?».
2 And Yahweh replied, 'Judah is to march on them first; I am delivering the country into his hands.'	2 El Señor respondió: «Que suba Judá, porque yo he puesto el país en sus manos».
3 Judah then said to his brother Simeon, 'March with me into the territory al otted to me; we shall makewar on the Canaanites, and then I in my turn shal march into your territory with you.' And Simeon marched withhim.	3 Entonces Judá dijo a su hermano Simeón: «Sube conmigo al territorio que me ha tocado en suerte. Atacaremos a los cananeos, y después yo iré contigo al territorio que te ha sido asignado». Y Simeón lo acompañó.
4 So Judah marched on them, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, andthey defeated them at Bezek-ten thousand of them!	4 Cuando Judá subió, el Señor puso en sus manos a los cananeos y a los perizitas, y derrotaron en Bézec a diez mil hombres.
5 At Bezek they came upon Adoni-Bezek; they joined battle with him and defeated the Canaanites andPerizzites.	5 Allí se encontraron con Adoní Bézec, combatieron contra él y derrotaron a los cananeos y a los perizitas.
6 Adoni-Bezek took to flight, but they chased and captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.	6 Adoní Bézec trató de escapar, pero ellos lo persiguieron, lo capturaron y le cortaron el dedo pulgar de las manos y de los pies.
7 Adoni-Bezek said, 'Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up the crumbsunder my table. As I did, God does to me.' He was taken to Jerusalem, and there he died.	7 Entonces Adoní Bézec exclamó: «Setenta reyes, con los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies cortados, recogían migajas debajo de mi mesa. Y ahora Dios me retribuye de acuerdo con lo que hice». Luego lo llevaron a Jerusalén, y allí murió.
8 (The sons of Judah attacked Jerusalem and took it: they put its people to the sword and set fire to thecity.)	8 La tribu de Judá atacó a Jerusalén; la tomaron, pasaron a sus habitantes al filo de la espada e incendiaron la ciudad.
9 After this the sons of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites who were living in the highlands,the Negeb and the lowlands.	9 Luego la tribu de Judá fue a combatir contra los cananeos que habitaban en la Montaña, el Négueb y la Sefelá.
10 Judah next marched on the Canaanites living in Hebron -- the name of Hebron in olden days wasKiriath-Arba -- and beat Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.	10 Judá avanzó contra los cananeos que habitaban en Hebrón –Hebrón se llamaba antiguamente Quiriat Arabá– y derrotó a Sesai, Ajimán y Talmai.
11 From there, he marched on the inhabitants of Debir -- the name of Debir in olden days was Kiriath-Sepher.	11 Desde allí subió contra los habitantes de Debir, que antes se llamaba Quiriat Séfer.
12 Caleb said, 'To the man who conquers and captures Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'	12 Entonces Caleb dijo: «Al que derrote y conquiste a Quiriat Séfer, yo le daré como esposa a mi hija Acsá».
13 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, who gave him hisdaughter Achsah as wife.	13 El que la conquistó fue Otniel, hijo de Quenaz y hermano menor de Caleb, y este le dio como esposa a su hija Acsá.
14 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'	14 Cuando ella llegó a la casa de su esposo, este le sugirió que pidiera un campo a su padre. Ella se bajó del asno, y Caleb le preguntó: «Qué quieres?».
15 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springs ofwater, too!' So Caleb gave her what she wanted: the upper springs and the lower springs.	15 «Quiero que me hagas un regalo, le respondió; ya que me has mandado al territorio de Négueb, concédeme al menos un manantial». Y él le dio el manantial de Arriba y el manantial de Abajo.
16 The sons of Hobab the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, marched up with the sons of Judah from theCity of Palm Trees into the desert of Judah lying in the Negeb of Arad, where they went and settled among thepeople.	16 Los del clan de Jobab, el quenita, que había sido suegro de Moisés, subieron con la tribu de Judá desde la ciudad de las Palmeras hasta el desierto de Judá, al sur de Arad, y se establecieron entre los amalecitas.
17 Judah then set out with his brother Simeon. They beat the Canaanites who lived in Zephath anddelivered it over to the curse of destruction; hence the town was given the name of Hormah.	17 Judá, por su parte, su fue con su hermano Simeón. Ellos derrotaron a los cananeos que habitaban en Sefat y consagraron la ciudad al exterminio total; por eso, la ciudad se llamó Jormá.
18 Judah then captured Gaza and its territory, Ashkelon and its territory, Ekron and its territory.AndYahweh was with Judah, who made himself master of the highlands;	18 Pero Judá no pudo apoderarse de Gaza y su territorio, ni de Ascalón y su territorio, ni de Ecrón y su territorio.
19 he could not, however, dispossess the inhabitants of the plain, since they had iron chariots.	19 El Señor estaba con Judá, y este pudo ocupar la Montaña, pero no logró desposeer a los habitantes de la llanura, porque estaban equipados con carros de hierro.
20 As Moses had directed, Hebron was given to Caleb, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of it.	20 De acuerdo con lo establecido por Moisés, Hebrón fue asignada a Caleb, y él expulsó de allí a los tres hijos de Anac.
21 As regards the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not dispossess them, and theJebusites have been living in Jerusalem with the sons of Benjamin ever since.	21 La tribu de Benjamín, en cambio, no pudo desposeer a los jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalén. Por eso los Jebuseos continúan habitando en Jerusalén con la tribu de Benjamín, hasta el día de hoy.
22 Similarly, the House of Joseph marched on Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.	22 La casa de José, por su parte, subió contra Betel, y el Señor estaba con ella.
23 The House of Joseph made a reconnaissance of Bethel. (In olden days, the name of the town wasLuz.)	23 La casa de José envió espías a Betel –la ciudad que antiguamente se llamaba Luz–
24 The scouts saw a man coming out of the town and said to him, 'Show us how to get into the town andwe shal show you faithful love.'	24 y cuando los espías vieron a un hombre que salía de la ciudad, le dijeron: «Muéstranos el acceso a la ciudad, y te perdonaremos la vida».
25 And when he had shown them a way into the town, they put the town to the sword but let the man andhis whole clan go.	25 El les indicó el acceso a la ciudad, y ellos pasaron a sus habitantes al filo de la espada, pero dejaron ir a aquel hombre con toda su familia.
26 The man went off to the country of the Hittites and built a town which he called Luz; and that has been its name ever since.	26 El hombre se dirigió al país de los hititas, y fundó una ciudad, a la que llamó Luz. Este es el nombre que tiene hasta el día de hoy.
27 Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-Shean and its dependencies, nor Taanach and its dependencies,nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependencies, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependencies, nor theinhabitants of Megiddo and its dependencies; in those parts the Canaanites held their ground.	27 Manasés, en cambio, no pudo adueñarse de Bet Seán y de Tanac con sus respectivas ciudades dependientes. Tampoco desposeyó a los habitantes de Dor, de Ibleam y de Meguido, con sus respectivas ciudades dependientes, sino que los cananeos continuaron ocupando ese territorio.
28 But when the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour, althoughthey did not dispossess them.	28 Pero cuando Israel se hizo más fuerte, obligó a los cananeos a pagar tributo, aunque no llegó a desposeerlos.
29 Nor did Ephraim dispossess the Canaanites living in Gezer; thus, the Canaanites went on living inGezer with him.	29 Efraím no pudo desposeer a los cananeos que habitaban en Guézer, de manera que estos continuaron viviendo en medio de él, en Guézer.
30 Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron or of Nahalol. The Canaanites lived on withZebulun but were subjected to forced labour.	30 Zabulón no desposeyó a los habitantes de Quitrón ni a los de Nahalol: los cananeos continuaron viviendo en medio de él, pero fueron obligados a pagar tributo.
31 Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Acco, nor those of Sidon, of Mahalab, of Achzib, of Helbah,of Aphek or of Rehob.	31 Aser no pudo desposeer a los habitantes de Acó, de Sidón, de Majleb, de Aczib, de Afric y de Rejob.
32 So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the country, not having dispossessed them.	32 Por eso la tribu de Aser se estableció en medio de los cananeos que ocupaban el país, ya que no pudieron desposeerlos.
33 Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh or of Beth-Anath; they settled among theCanaanite inhabitants of the country, but the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath were subjected toforced labour for them.	33 Tampoco Neftalí pudo desposeer a los habitantes de Bet Semes, ni a los de Bet Anát, y se estableció en medio de los cananeos que habitaban en el país, Pero los habitantes de Bet Semes y de Bet Anát fueron obligados a pagar tributo.
34 The Amorites drove the Danites back into the highlands and would not let them come down into theplain.	34 Los amorreos obligaron a la tribu de Dan a replegarse hacia la región montañosa, impidiéndosele bajar hasta el llano.
35 The Amorites held their ground at Har -- Heres and Shaalbim, but when the hand of the House ofJoseph grew heavier, they were subjected to forced labour. (	35 Los amorreos pudieron permanecer en Har Jéres, en Aialón y en Salbím, pero cuando la casa de José afianzó su poder, fueron obligados a pagar tributo.
36 The territory of the Edomites begins at the Ascent of Scorpions, runs to the Rock and continues onupwards.)	36 En cuanto a los edomitas, su frontera se extiende desde la cuesta de Acrabím, a partir de la Roca, y continúa hacia arriba.
