1 John 3

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 You must see what great love the Father has lavished on us by letting us be cal ed God's children --which is what we are! The reason why the world does not acknowledge us is that it did not acknowledge him.	1 Videte qualem caritatem dedit nobis Pater, ut filii Dei nominemur et simus. Propter hoc mundus non novit nos : quia non novit eum.
2 My dear friends, we are already God's children, but what we shall be in the future has not yet beenrevealed. We are wel aware that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he real yis.	2 Carissimi, nunc filii Dei sumus : et nondum apparuit quid erimus. Scimus quoniam cum apparuerit, similes ei erimus : quoniam videbimus eum sicuti est.
3 Whoever treasures this hope of him purifies himself, to be as pure as he is.	3 Et omnis qui habet hanc spem in eo, sanctificat se, sicut et ille sanctus est.
4 Whoever sins, acts wickedly, because al sin is wickedness.	4 Omnis qui facit peccatum, et iniquitatem facit : et peccatum est iniquitas.
5 Now you are well aware that he has appeared in order to take sins away, and that in him there is no sin.	5 Et scitis quia ille apparuit ut peccata nostra tolleret : et peccatum in eo non est.
6 No one who remains in him sins, and whoever sins has neither seen him nor recognised him.	6 Omnis qui in eo manet, non peccat : et omnis qui peccat, non vidit eum, nec cognovit eum.
7 Children, do not let anyone lead you astray. Whoever acts uprightly is upright, just as he is upright.	7 Filioli, nemo vos seducat. Qui facit justitiam, justus est, sicut et ille justus est.
8 Whoever lives sinfully belongs to the devil, since the devil has been a sinner from the beginning. Thiswas the purpose of the appearing of the Son of God, to undo the work of the devil.	8 Qui facit peccatum, ex diabolo est : quoniam ab initio diabolus peccat. In hoc apparuit Filius Dei, ut dissolvat opera diaboli.
9 No one who is a child of God sins because God's seed remains in him. Nor can he sin, because he is achild of God.	9 Omnis qui natus est ex Deo, peccatum non facit : quoniam semen ipsius in eo manet, et non potest peccare, quoniam ex Deo natus est.
10 This is what distinguishes the children of God from the children of the devil: whoever does not liveuprightly and does not love his brother is not from God.	10 In hoc manifesti sunt filii Dei, et filii diaboli. Omnis qui non est justus, non est ex Deo, et qui non diligit fratrem suum :
11 This is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we must love one another,	11 quoniam hæc est annuntiatio, quam audistis ab initio, ut diligatis alterutrum.
12 not to be like Cain, who was from the Evil One and murdered his brother. And why did he murder hisbrother? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's upright.	12 Non sicut Cain, qui ex maligno erat, et occidit fratrem suum. Et propter quid occidit eum ? Quoniam opera ejus maligna erant : fratris autem ejus, justa.
13 Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.	13 Nolite mirari, fratres, si odit vos mundus.
14 We are wel aware that we have passed over from death to life because we love our brothers.Whoever does not love, remains in death.	14 Nos scimus quoniam translati sumus de morte ad vitam, quoniam diligimus fratres. Qui non diligit, manet in morte :
15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you are well aware that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.	15 omnis qui odit fratrem suum, homicida est. Et scitis quoniam omnis homicida non habet vitam æternam in semetipso manentem.
16 This is the proof of love, that he laid down his life for us, and we too ought to lay down our lives for ourbrothers.	16 In hoc cognovimus caritatem Dei, quoniam ille animam suam pro nobis posuit : et nos debemus pro fratribus animas ponere.
17 If anyone is wel -off in worldly possessions and sees his brother in need but closes his heart to him,how can the love of God be remaining in him?	17 Qui habuerit substantiam hujus mundi, et viderit fratrem suum necessitatem habere, et clauserit viscera sua ab eo : quomodo caritas Dei manet in eo ?
18 Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk, but something active and genuine.	18 Filioli mei, non diligamus verbo neque lingua, sed opere et veritate :
19 This will be the proof that we belong to the truth, and it wil convince us in his presence,	19 in hoc cognoscimus quoniam ex veritate sumus : et in conspectu ejus suadebimus corda nostra.
20 even if our own feelings condemn us, that God is greater than our feelings and knows al things.	20 Quoniam si reprehenderit nos cor nostrum : major est Deus corde nostro, et novit omnia.
21 My dear friends, if our own feelings do not condemn us, we can be fearless before God,	21 Carissimi, si cor nostrum non reprehenderit nos, fiduciam habemus ad Deum :
22 and whatever we ask we shal receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what isacceptable to him.	22 et quidquid petierimus, accipiemus ab eo : quoniam mandata ejus custodimus, et ea, quæ sunt placita coram eo, facimus.
23 His commandment is this, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that weshould love one another as he commanded us.	23 Et hoc est mandatum ejus : ut credamus in nomine Filii ejus Jesu Christi : et diligamus alterutrum, sicut dedit mandatum nobis.
24 Whoever keeps his commandments remains in God, and God in him. And this is the proof that heremains in us: the Spirit that he has given us.	24 Et qui servat mandata ejus, in illo manet, et ipse in eo : et in hoc scimus quoniam manet in nobis, de Spiritu quem dedit nobis.
