Joshua 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. Hesaid,	1 Dopo la morte di Mosè, servo del Signore, il Signore parlò a Giosuè figlio ai Nun, ministro di Mosè, e gli disse:
2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the countrywhich I am giving to them (the Israelites).	2 « Mosè mio servo è morto: levati, passa questo Giordano, tu con tutto il popolo, e va nel paese che io darò ai figli d'Israele.
3 Every place you tread with the soles of your feet I shall give you, as I declared to Moses that I would.	3 Ogni luogo calcato dalla pianta del vostro piede lo darò a voi, come dissi a Mosè.
4 From the desert and the Lebanon, to the Great River, the Euphrates (the entire country of the Hittites),and as far as the Great Sea to westward, is to be your territory.	4 I vostri confini andranno dal deserto, dal Libano, fino al gran fiume Eufrate, tutta la terra degli Etei, sino al gran mare d'Occidente.
5 As long as you live, no one wil be able to resist you; I shal be with you as I was with Moses; I shall notfail you or desert you.	5 Nessuno potrà resistervi per tutti i giorni della tua vita. Come fui con Mosè, sarò teco: non ti lascerò, non ti abbandonerò.
6 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are the man to give this people possession of the land which I sworeto their ancestors that I would give them.	6 Sii dunque coraggioso e forte, chè dovrai distribuire a sorte a questo popolo la terra che ho giurato ai loro padri di dar loro.
7 Only be strong and stand very firm and be careful to keep the whole Law which my servant Moses laiddown for you. Do not swerve from this either to right or to left, and then you wil succeed wherever you go.	7 Fatti adunque coraggio, e stai molto forte nel custodire e adempire tutta la legge che Mosè mio servo ti ha prescritta: non deviare da essa, nè a destra nè a sinistra, se vuoi riuscire in tutto questo che intraprendi.
8 Have the book of this Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may careful ykeep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings wil prosper, then you will have success.	8 Il libro di questa legge non si allontani dalla tua bocca: meditalo giorno e notte, per custodire e fare ciò che vi è scritto, e prosperare nelle tue vie e riuscire.
9 Have I not told you: Be strong and stand firm? Be fearless and undaunted, for go where you may,Yahweh your God is with you.'	9 Ecco i miei ordini: sii coraggioso e forte, senza paura, senza timore; perchè il Signore Dio tuo è teco ovunque tu vada ».
10 Joshua then gave the people's officials this instruction:	10 E Giosuè diede quest'ordine ai principi del popolo: « Percorrete gli accampamenti, e, comandando, dite al popolo:
11 'Go through the camp and give the people this order, "Make provisions ready, for in three days' timeyou wil cross this Jordan and go on to take possession of the land which Yahweh your God is giving you as yourown." '	11 Preparate i viveri, perchè da qui a tre giorni passerete il Giordano per entrare in possesso della terra che il Signore Dio vostro sta per darvi ».
12 Joshua then said to the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,	12 Disse poi ai Rubeniti, ai Gaditi e alla mezza tribù di Manasse:
13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you torest, has given you the land where we are.	13 « Ricordatevi di quanto vi ha prescritto Mosè servo del Signore, quando disse: Il Signore Dio vostro vi ha dato riposo e tutto questo paese:
14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond theJordan. But al you fighting men must cross in battle formation at the head of your brothers and help them,	14 le vostre mogli, i figli e i bestiami resteranno nel paese datovi da Mosè di qua dal Giordano, ma voi tutti quanti siete forti di mano, passate armati davanti ai vostri fratelli a combattere per essi,
15 until Yahweh grants rest to your brothers and you alike, when they too have taken possession of theland which Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you may go back and take possession of the land whichbelongs to you and which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given you on the eastern side of the Jordan.'	15 finché il Signore non dia a loro quel riposo che ha già dato a voi, finché non posseggano anche essi la terra che il Signore Dio vostro è per dar loro. Poi tornerete nel paese di vostro possesso, datovi da Mosè servo del Signore di qua dal Giordano, a levante, e vi abiterete ».
16 They answered Joshua, 'We wil do whatever you order us, and wherever you send us we wil go.	16 Ed essi rispondendo a Giosuè, dissero: « Noi faremo tutto quello che ci hai prescritto; andremo dovunque ci manderai.
17 We obeyed Moses in everything, and now we will obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with youas he was with Moses!	17 Come ubbidimmo in tutto a Mosè, così anche a te obbediremo. Che il Signore Dio tuo sia teco, come fu con Mosè!
18 If anyone rebels against your orders or will not listen to your commands, let him be put to death. Only be strong and stand firm.'	18 Chiunque contraddirà alla tua parola e non vorrà obbedire a tutto quello che tu gli comanderai sia messo a morte: fatti pure coraggio ed opera vi ilmente ».
