Joshua 1

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. Hesaid,	1 Dopo la morte di Mosè, servo del Signore, il Signore parlò a Giosuè, figlio di Nun, servo di Mosè, in questi termini:
2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the countrywhich I am giving to them (the Israelites).	2 "Mosè, mio servo, è morto; lèvati, dunque, e attraversa questo Giordano, tu e tutto questo popolo, verso la terra che io darò loro, ai figli d'Israele.
3 Every place you tread with the soles of your feet I shall give you, as I declared to Moses that I would.	3 Ogni luogo nel quale passerete, io ve lo do, come già avevo detto a Mosè:
4 From the desert and the Lebanon, to the Great River, the Euphrates (the entire country of the Hittites),and as far as the Great Sea to westward, is to be your territory.	4 i vostri confini saranno dal deserto e dal Libano fino al grande fiume, il fiume Eufrate, tutta la terra degli Hittiti, fino al Mar Mediterraneo, ad occidente.
5 As long as you live, no one wil be able to resist you; I shal be with you as I was with Moses; I shall notfail you or desert you.	5 Nessuno sarà capace di resistere davanti a te per tutta la tua vita; come fui con Mosè, così sarò con te; non ti deluderò né ti abbandonerò.
6 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are the man to give this people possession of the land which I sworeto their ancestors that I would give them.	6 Sii forte e risoluto, perché sei tu che devi condurre questo popolo al possesso di quella terra che giurai ai loro padri di dare loro.
7 Only be strong and stand very firm and be careful to keep the whole Law which my servant Moses laiddown for you. Do not swerve from this either to right or to left, and then you wil succeed wherever you go.	7 Solamente sii forte e coraggioso, procurando di agire secondo tutte le istruzioni che ti ha dato Mosè, mio servo. Non deviare né a destra né a sinistra, per poter riuscire in ogni tua impresa.
8 Have the book of this Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may careful ykeep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings wil prosper, then you will have success.	8 Mai si allontanerà dalle tue labbra questo libro della legge; meditalo di giorno e di notte, sì che tu possa eseguire scrupolosamente quanto vi è scritto; perché sarà allora che tu riuscirai nelle tue imprese e avrai ovunque successo.
9 Have I not told you: Be strong and stand firm? Be fearless and undaunted, for go where you may,Yahweh your God is with you.'	9 Non sono forse io che ti comando questo, di essere forte e coraggioso? Non temere dunque e non avvilirti, perché è con te, in ogni tuo passo, Dio, tuo Signore".
10 Joshua then gave the people's officials this instruction:	10 Giosuè allora ordinò ai capitani del popolo:
11 'Go through the camp and give the people this order, "Make provisions ready, for in three days' timeyou wil cross this Jordan and go on to take possession of the land which Yahweh your God is giving you as yourown." '	11 "Attraversate l'accampamento e date al popolo queste disposizioni: Preparatevi i viveri, perché fra tre giorni dovrete attraversare questo fiume, il Giordano, per entrare in possesso della terra che il Signore, vostro Dio, sta per darvi, perché la possediate".
12 Joshua then said to the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,	12 Ai Rubeniti, poi, ai Gaditi e alla metà della tribù di Manasse Giosuè parlò così:
13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you torest, has given you the land where we are.	13 "Ricordatevi dell'ordine che vi diede Mosè, servo del Signore: "Il Signore, vostro Dio, vi ha dato riposo, dandovi questa terra;
14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond theJordan. But al you fighting men must cross in battle formation at the head of your brothers and help them,	14 le vostre donne, i vostri bambini e i vostri greggi rimangano nella terra che vi ha dato Mosè al di là del Giordano. Voi, invece, tutti uomini di guerra, passerete, armati, in testa ai vostri fratelli e presterete loro aiuto,
15 until Yahweh grants rest to your brothers and you alike, when they too have taken possession of theland which Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you may go back and take possession of the land whichbelongs to you and which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given you on the eastern side of the Jordan.'	15 finché il Signore non avrà dato riposo ai vostri fratelli come a voi e avranno anch'essi preso possesso della terra che il Signore, Dio vostro, sta per dare loro. Allora potrete ritornare alla terra che vi appartiene e che vi fu data da Mosè, servo del Signore, al di là del Giordano, verso oriente".
16 They answered Joshua, 'We wil do whatever you order us, and wherever you send us we wil go.	16 Quelli risposero a Giosuè: "Faremo tutto quello che ci comandi e andremo dovunque tu vorrai mandarci.
17 We obeyed Moses in everything, and now we will obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with youas he was with Moses!	17 Come abbiamo obbedito a Mosè, così obbediremo a te; soltanto, sia con te il Signore, tuo Dio, come fu con Mosè.
18 If anyone rebels against your orders or will not listen to your commands, let him be put to death. Only be strong and stand firm.'	18 Chiunque non ti ascolterà e non obbedirà ai tuoi ordini, ad ogni cosa che tu ci comanderai, sia ucciso. Sii dunque forte e coraggioso".
