Joshua 1

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. Hesaid,	1 Et factum est, ut post mortem Moysi servi Domini loqueretur Dominus ad Iosue filium Nun ministrum Moysi et diceret ei:
2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the countrywhich I am giving to them (the Israelites).	2 “ Moyses servus meus mortuus est; nunc igitur surge et transi Iordanem istum, tu et omnis populus iste, in terram, quam ego dabo filiis Israel.
3 Every place you tread with the soles of your feet I shall give you, as I declared to Moses that I would.	3 Omnem locum, quem calcaverit vestigium pedis vestri, vobis tradidi, sicut locutus sum Moysi.
4 From the desert and the Lebanon, to the Great River, the Euphrates (the entire country of the Hittites),and as far as the Great Sea to westward, is to be your territory.	4 A deserto et Libano isto usque ad fluvium magnum Euphraten, omnis terra Hetthaeorum usque ad mare Magnum contra solis occasum erit terminus vester.
5 As long as you live, no one wil be able to resist you; I shal be with you as I was with Moses; I shall notfail you or desert you.	5 Nullus tibi poterit resistere cunctis diebus vitae tuae: sicut fui cum Moyse, ero et tecum; non dimittam nec derelinquam te.
6 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are the man to give this people possession of the land which I sworeto their ancestors that I would give them.	6 Confortare et esto robustus; tu enim sorte divides populo huic terram, pro qua iuravi patribus suis, ut traderem eam illis.
7 Only be strong and stand very firm and be careful to keep the whole Law which my servant Moses laiddown for you. Do not swerve from this either to right or to left, and then you wil succeed wherever you go.	7 Confortare tantum et esto robustus valde, ut custodias et facias iuxta omnem legem, quam praecepit tibi Moyses servus meus. Ne declines ab ea ad dexteram vel ad sinistram, ut prospereris in omnibus, ad quaecumque perrexeris.
8 Have the book of this Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may careful ykeep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings wil prosper, then you will have success.	8 Non recedat hoc volumen legis de ore tuo, sed meditaberis in eo diebus ac noctibus, ut custodias et facias iuxta omnia, quae scripta sunt in eo: tunc optime diriges viam tuam et tunc prosperaberis.
9 Have I not told you: Be strong and stand firm? Be fearless and undaunted, for go where you may,Yahweh your God is with you.'	9 Nonne praecepi tibi: Confortare et esto robustus, noli metuere et noli timere, quoniam tecum est Dominus Deus tuus in omnibus, ad quaecumque perrexeris?”.
10 Joshua then gave the people's officials this instruction:	10 Praecepitque Iosue praefectis populi dicens: “ Transite per medium castrorum et imperate populo ac dicite:
11 'Go through the camp and give the people this order, "Make provisions ready, for in three days' timeyou wil cross this Jordan and go on to take possession of the land which Yahweh your God is giving you as yourown." '	11 Praeparate vobis cibaria, quoniam post diem tertium transibitis Iordanem hunc et intrabitis ad possidendam terram, quam Dominus Deus vester daturus est vobis ”.
12 Joshua then said to the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,	12 Rubenitis quoque et Gaditis et dimidiae tribui Manasse ait:
13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you torest, has given you the land where we are.	13 “ Mementote sermonis, quem praecepit vobis Moyses famulus Domini dicens: “Dominus Deus vester dedit vobis requiem et terram hanc”.
14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond theJordan. But al you fighting men must cross in battle formation at the head of your brothers and help them,	14 Uxores vestrae et filii ac iumenta manebunt in terra, quam tradidit vobis Moyses trans Iordanem; vos autem transibitis armati ante fratres vestros, omnes viri fortes, et adiuvabitis eos,
15 until Yahweh grants rest to your brothers and you alike, when they too have taken possession of theland which Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you may go back and take possession of the land whichbelongs to you and which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given you on the eastern side of the Jordan.'	15 donec det requiem Dominus fratribus vestris, sicut et vobis dedit, et possideant ipsi quoque terram, quam Dominus Deus vester daturus est eis. Et sic revertemini in terram possessionis vestrae et habitabitis in ea, quam vobis dedit Moyses famulus Domini trans Iordanem contra solis ortum ”.
16 They answered Joshua, 'We wil do whatever you order us, and wherever you send us we wil go.	16 Responderuntque ad Iosue atque dixerunt: “ Omnia, quae praecepisti nobis, faciemus et, quocumque miseris, ibimus.
17 We obeyed Moses in everything, and now we will obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with youas he was with Moses!	17 Sicut oboedivimus in cunctis Moysi, ita oboediemus et tibi; tantum sit Dominus Deus tuus tecum, sicut fuit cum Moyse.
18 If anyone rebels against your orders or will not listen to your commands, let him be put to death. Only be strong and stand firm.'	18 Quicumque contradixerit ori tuo et non oboedierit cunctis sermonibus, quos praeceperis ei, moriatur; tu tantum confortare et viriliter age ”.
