1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. Hesaid,	1 E dopo la morte di Mosè, servo del Signore, egli avvenne che parlò il Signore a Giosuè figliuolo di Nun, ministro di Mosè, e gli disse:
2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the countrywhich I am giving to them (the Israelites).	2 Il mio servo Mosè è morto: su via passa questo (fiume) Giordano tu, e tutto il popolo con te, e va nel paese che io darò a’ figliuoli d'Israele.
3 Every place you tread with the soles of your feet I shall give you, as I declared to Moses that I would.	3 Tutti i luoghi, ne' quali voi porrete il piede, li darò a voi, come io dissi a Mosè.
4 From the desert and the Lebanon, to the Great River, the Euphrates (the entire country of the Hittites),and as far as the Great Sea to westward, is to be your territory.	4 I vostri confini saranno dal deserto, e dal Libano fino al gran fiume Eufrate, vostra tutta la terra degli Hethei, sino al gran mare verso occidente.
5 As long as you live, no one wil be able to resist you; I shal be with you as I was with Moses; I shall notfail you or desert you.	5 Nissuno potrà resistere a voi per tutto il tempo della tua vita: come io fui con Mosè, così sarò teco: non ti lascerò, e non ti abbandonerò.
6 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are the man to give this people possession of the land which I sworeto their ancestors that I would give them.	6 Fatti coraggio, e sii costante, perocché tu distribuirai a sorte a questo popolo la terra che io promisi a' padri loro con giuramento di dare ad essi.
7 Only be strong and stand very firm and be careful to keep the whole Law which my servant Moses laiddown for you. Do not swerve from this either to right or to left, and then you wil succeed wherever you go.	7 Fatti adunque coraggio, e sii costante grandemente, affin di osservare, e adempiere tutta la legge annunziata a te da Mosè mio servo: e non torcere nè a destra, nè a sinistra, affinchè tu abbi prudenza in tutto quello che fai.
8 Have the book of this Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may careful ykeep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings wil prosper, then you will have success.	8 Abbi mai sempre alla bocca il libro di questa legge, e meditalo i giorni, e le notti, affin di osservare, e adempiere tutte le cose che in esso sono scritte: allora tu sarai prosperato ne' tuoi andamenti, e avrai prudenza.
9 Have I not told you: Be strong and stand firm? Be fearless and undaunted, for go where you may,Yahweh your God is with you.'	9 Ecco che io tel comando: Fatti cuore, e sii costante: non aver paura, e non ismarrirti: perocché teco egli è il Signore Dio tuo in qualunque parte tu vada.
10 Joshua then gave the people's officials this instruction:	10 E Giosuè ordinò, e disse a' principi del popolo: Andate per mezzo agli alloggiamenti, e intimate quest'ordine al popolo, e ditegli:
11 'Go through the camp and give the people this order, "Make provisions ready, for in three days' timeyou wil cross this Jordan and go on to take possession of the land which Yahweh your God is giving you as yourown." '	11 Preparatevi i viveri: dappoiché di qui a tre giorni voi passerete il Giordano, ed entrerete a prendere possesso della terra che vuol dare a voi il Signore Dio vostro.
12 Joshua then said to the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,	12 Disse egli di più a quelli di Ruben, e di Gad, e alla mezza tribù di Manasse.
13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you torest, has given you the land where we are.	13 Ricordatevi dell'ordine dato a voi da Mosè servo del Signore, allorché vi disse: II Signore Dio vostro ha dato a voi riposo, e tutto questo paese.
14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond theJordan. But al you fighting men must cross in battle formation at the head of your brothers and help them,	14 Le vostre mogli; e i figliuoli, e i bestiami resteranno nelle terre assegnate a voi da Mosè di qua dal Giordano: ma voi passatelo in armi prima de' vostri fratelli, tutti quanti siete valorosi di mano e combattete per essi,
15 until Yahweh grants rest to your brothers and you alike, when they too have taken possession of theland which Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you may go back and take possession of the land whichbelongs to you and which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given you on the eastern side of the Jordan.'	15 Sino a tanto che il Signore dia riposo a’ vostri fratelli, come lo ha dato a voi; e sieno anch'essi al possesso della terra, che il Signore Dio vostro darà loro: e allora ve ne tornerete nel paese di cui siete padroni, e nel luogo assegnatovi da Mosè servo del Signore di qua dal Giordano verso levante.
16 They answered Joshua, 'We wil do whatever you order us, and wherever you send us we wil go.	16 E quelli risposero a Giosuè, e dissero: Noi faremo tutto quello che ci hai comandato: e andremo dovunque ci manderai.
17 We obeyed Moses in everything, and now we will obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with youas he was with Moses!	17 Come noi fummo in tutto obbedienti, a Mosè, così obbediremo anche a te: solamente sia teco il Signore Dio tuo, come fu con Mosè.
18 If anyone rebels against your orders or will not listen to your commands, let him be put to death. Only be strong and stand firm.'	18 Chiunque contraddirà alla tua parola, e non obbedirà a tutto quello che tu gli comanderai, sia messo a morte: tu poi abbi buona speranza, e opera virilmente.
