1 What should we say then? Should we remain in sin so that grace may be given the more fully?	1 Che diremo dunque? Rimarremo nel peccato, affinchè abbondi la grazia?
2 Out of the question! We have died to sin; how could we go on living in it?	2 Non sia mai. Noi che siam morti al peccato, come potremo seguitare a vivere in esso?
3 You cannot have forgotten that al of us, when we were baptised into Christ Jesus, were baptised intohis death.	3 Non sapete forse che, quanti siamo battezzati in Gesù Cristo, nella morte di lui siamo stati battezzati?
4 So by our baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that as Christ was raised from the deadby the Father's glorious power, we too should begin living a new life.	4 Noi dunque pel battesimo siamo stati sepolti con lui nella (sua) morte, affinchè, come Cristo è risuscitato da morte per la gloria del Padre, così anche noi viviamo d'una vita novella.
5 If we have been joined to him by dying a death like his, so we shal be by a resurrection like his;	5 Se infatti siamo stati innestati su lui per somiglianza di morte, lo saremo anche per somiglianza di resurrezione.
6 realising that our former self was crucified with him, so that the self which belonged to sin should be destroyed and we should be freed from the slavery of sin.	6 Questo ben lo sappiamo: che il nostro uomo vecchio è stato con lui crocifìsso, affinchè il corpo del peccato sia distrutto e noi non serviamo più al peccato,
7 Someone who has died, of course, no longer has to answer for sin.	7 essendo il morto affrancato dal peccato.
8 But we believe that, if we died with Christ, then we shal live with him too.	8 Or se noi siam morti con Cristo, crediamo di vivere ancora con lui,
9 We know that Christ has been raised from the dead and will never die again. Death has no power overhim any more.	9 sapendo che Cristo, risuscitato da morte, non muore più, sopra di lui non regna più la morte
10 For by dying, he is dead to sin once and for all, and now the life that he lives is life with God.	10 perchè se egli è morto per il peccato, è morto una sola volta; ma se vive, vive per Iddio.
11 In the same way, you must see yourselves as being dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.	11 Così voi pure consideratevi come morti al peccato, ma vivi per Iddio in Gesù Cristo Signor nostro.
12 That is why you must not al ow sin to reign over your mortal bodies and make you obey their desires;	12 Il peccato non regni dunque nel vostro corpo mortale, da farvi obbedir alle sue concupiscenze:
13 or give any parts of your bodies over to sin to be used as instruments of evil. Instead, give yourselvesto God, as people brought to life from the dead, and give every part of your bodies to God to be instruments ofuprightness;	13 non date le vostre membra come strumenti d'iniquità al peccato, ma offritevi a Dio come viventi dopo essere stati morti, offritegli le vostre membra come strumento di giustizia.
14 and then sin wil no longer have any power over you -- you are living not under law, but under grace.	14 Il peccato adunque non vi dominerà, perchè non siete sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia.
15 What is the implication? That we are free to sin, now that we are not under law but under grace? Outof the question!	15 Che dunque? Peccheremo, perchè non siamo sotto la legge ma sotto la grazia? Non sia mai.
16 You know wel that if you undertake to be somebody's slave and obey him, you are the slave of himyou obey: you can be the slave either of sin which leads to death, or of obedience which leads to saving justice.	16 Non sapete che a chiunque vi diate a obbedire come servi, siete servi di colui al quale obbedite, sia del peccato che mena alla morte, sia dell'obbedienza che mena alla giustizia?
17 Once you were slaves of sin, but thank God you have given whole-hearted obedience to the patternof teaching to which you were introduced;	17 Ma, grazie a Dio, voi che foste servi del peccato, avete poi obbedito di cuore nella regola di dottrina che vi è stata insegnata.
18 and so, being freed from serving sin, you took uprightness as your master.	18 Liberati così dal peccato siete divenuti servi della giustizia.
19 I am putting it in human terms because you are stil weak human beings: as once you surrenderedyourselves as servants to immorality and to a lawlessness which results in more lawlessness, now you have tosurrender yourselves to uprightness which is to result in sanctification.	19 Parlo a mo' degli uomini, a motivo della debolezza della vostra carne: come dunque deste le vostre membra al servizio dell'immondezza e dell'iniquità per l'impurità, così date ora le vostre membra al servizio della giustizia per la santificazione.
20 When you were the servants of sin, you felt no obligation to uprightness,	20 Quando eravate servi del peccato eravate liberi dalla giustizia;
21 and what did you gain from living like that? Experiences of which you are now ashamed, for that sortof behaviour ends in death.	21 ma qual frutto aveste allora dalle cose di cui ora vi vergognate? Certamente la fine di esse è la morte.
22 But, now you are set free from sin and bound to the service of God, your gain wil be sanctificationand the end will be eternal life.	22 Ora invece, liberati dal peccato e fatti servi di Dio, avete per vostro frutto la santificazione e per fine la vita eterna,
23 For the wage paid by sin is death; the gift freely given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.	23 essendo paga a del peccato la morte, e grazia di Dio la vita eterna in Gesù Cristo nostro Signore.
