NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 What should we say then? Should we remain in sin so that grace may be given the more fully?	1 Che diremo dunque? Dobbiamo rimanere aderenti al peccato, perché abbondi la grazia?
2 Out of the question! We have died to sin; how could we go on living in it?	2 Non sia mai detto! Noi che morimmo al peccato, come vivremo ormai in esso?
3 You cannot have forgotten that al of us, when we were baptised into Christ Jesus, were baptised intohis death.	3 O ignorate forse che tutti quelli che fummo battezzati per unirci a Cristo Gesù, fummo battezzati per unirci alla sua morte?
4 So by our baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that as Christ was raised from the deadby the Father's glorious power, we too should begin living a new life.	4 Fummo dunque sepolti con lui per il battesimo per unirci alla sua morte, in modo che, come Cristo è risorto dai morti per la gloria del Padre, così anche noi abbiamo un comportamento di vita del tutto nuovo.
5 If we have been joined to him by dying a death like his, so we shal be by a resurrection like his;	5 Se infatti siamo diventati un medesimo essere insieme con lui per l'affinità con la sua morte, lo saremo pure per l'affinità con la sua risurrezione,
6 realising that our former self was crucified with him, so that the self which belonged to sin should be destroyed and we should be freed from the slavery of sin.	6 ben sapendo questo: il nostro uomo vecchio fu crocifisso insieme con Cristo affinché fosse annullato il corpo del peccato, così da non essere più noi schiavi del peccato,
7 Someone who has died, of course, no longer has to answer for sin.	7 poiché chi è morto è stato giustificato dal peccato.
8 But we believe that, if we died with Christ, then we shal live with him too.	8 Se poi morimmo con Cristo, crediamo che anche vivremo con lui,
9 We know that Christ has been raised from the dead and will never die again. Death has no power overhim any more.	9 ben sapendo che Cristo, risorto dai morti, non muore più, la morte non eserciterà più alcun dominio su di lui.
10 For by dying, he is dead to sin once and for all, and now the life that he lives is life with God.	10 Egli infatti morì e morì al peccato una volta per sempre; ora invece egli vive, e vive per Dio.
11 In the same way, you must see yourselves as being dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.	11 Così anche voi, reputate voi stessi come morti al peccato e viventi per Dio in Cristo Gesù.
12 That is why you must not al ow sin to reign over your mortal bodies and make you obey their desires;	12 Non regni dunque il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, portandovi ad obbedire ai suoi impulsi sfrenati,
13 or give any parts of your bodies over to sin to be used as instruments of evil. Instead, give yourselvesto God, as people brought to life from the dead, and give every part of your bodies to God to be instruments ofuprightness;	13 e non presentate le vostre membra come armi di iniquità per il peccato, ma offrite voi stessi a Dio come viventi dopo essere stati morti e le vostre membra come armi di giustizia per Dio;
14 and then sin wil no longer have any power over you -- you are living not under law, but under grace.	14 il peccato infatti non avrà dominio su di voi; infatti non siete sotto l'influsso della legge ma della grazia.
15 What is the implication? That we are free to sin, now that we are not under law but under grace? Outof the question!	15 E allora? Dovremmo peccare, per il fatto che non siamo sotto la legge ma sotto la grazia? Non sia mai detto!
16 You know wel that if you undertake to be somebody's slave and obey him, you are the slave of himyou obey: you can be the slave either of sin which leads to death, or of obedience which leads to saving justice.	16 Non sapete che se vi fate schiavi, obbedendo, di qualcuno, siete schiavi di quello a cui obbedite, sia del peccato per la morte, sia dell'obbedienza per la giustificazione?
17 Once you were slaves of sin, but thank God you have given whole-hearted obedience to the patternof teaching to which you were introduced;	17 Siano rese grazie a Dio perché, già schiavi del peccato, obbediste di cuore a quella forma di dottrina che vi fu tramandata;
18 and so, being freed from serving sin, you took uprightness as your master.	18 liberati dal peccato, foste asserviti alla giustificazione.
19 I am putting it in human terms because you are stil weak human beings: as once you surrenderedyourselves as servants to immorality and to a lawlessness which results in more lawlessness, now you have tosurrender yourselves to uprightness which is to result in sanctification.	19 Parlo in termini umani a causa della debolezza della vostra carne. Come infatti offriste le vostre membra in servizio alla immondezza e all'iniquità per l'iniquità, così ora offrite le vostre membra in servizio della giustizia per la santificazione.
20 When you were the servants of sin, you felt no obligation to uprightness,	20 Quando eravate schiavi del peccato, eravate liberi in rapporto alla giustificazione.
21 and what did you gain from living like that? Experiences of which you are now ashamed, for that sortof behaviour ends in death.	21 Quale frutto raccoglieste allora in quelle cose di cui ora arrossite? Il termine a cui esse conducono è la morte.
22 But, now you are set free from sin and bound to the service of God, your gain wil be sanctificationand the end will be eternal life.	22 Ora invece, liberati dal peccato, resi invece schiavi a Dio, raccogliete i vostri frutti per la giustificazione e il termine è la vita eterna.
23 For the wage paid by sin is death; the gift freely given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.	23 La ricompensa del peccato è la morte, il dono di grazia di Dio è la vita eterna in Cristo Gesù nostro Signore.
