NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 What should we say then? Should we remain in sin so that grace may be given the more fully?	1 CHE diremo adunque? rimarremo noi nel peccato, acciocchè la grazia abbondi?
2 Out of the question! We have died to sin; how could we go on living in it?	2 Così non sia: noi, che siam morti al peccato, come viveremo ancora in esso?
3 You cannot have forgotten that al of us, when we were baptised into Christ Jesus, were baptised intohis death.	3 Ignorate voi, che noi tutti, che siamo stati battezzati in Gesù Cristo, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte?
4 So by our baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that as Christ was raised from the deadby the Father's glorious power, we too should begin living a new life.	4 Noi siamo adunque stati con lui seppelliti per lo battesimo, a morte; acciocchè, siccome Cristo è risuscitato da’ morti per la gloria del Padre, noi ancora simigliantemente camminiamo in novità di vita.
5 If we have been joined to him by dying a death like his, so we shal be by a resurrection like his;	5 Perciocchè, se siamo stati innestati con Cristo alla conformità della sua morte, certo lo saremo ancora a quella della sua risurrezione.
6 realising that our former self was crucified with him, so that the self which belonged to sin should be destroyed and we should be freed from the slavery of sin.	6 Sapendo questo: che il nostro vecchio uomo è stato con lui crocifisso, acciocchè il corpo del peccato sia annullato, affinchè noi non serviamo più al peccato.
7 Someone who has died, of course, no longer has to answer for sin.	7 Poichè colui che è morto è sciolto dal peccato.
8 But we believe that, if we died with Christ, then we shal live with him too.	8 Ora, se siam morti con Cristo, noi crediamo che altresì viveremo con lui.
9 We know that Christ has been raised from the dead and will never die again. Death has no power overhim any more.	9 Sapendo che Cristo, essendo risuscitato da’ morti, non muore più; la morte non signoreggia più sopra lui.
10 For by dying, he is dead to sin once and for all, and now the life that he lives is life with God.	10 Perciocchè, in quanto egli è morto, è morto al peccato una volta; ma in quanto egli vive, vive a Dio.
11 In the same way, you must see yourselves as being dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.	11 Così ancora voi reputate che ben siete morti al peccato; ma che vivete a Dio, in Cristo Gesù, nostro Signore.
12 That is why you must not al ow sin to reign over your mortal bodies and make you obey their desires;	12 Non regni adunque il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, per ubbidirgli nelle sue concupiscenze.
13 or give any parts of your bodies over to sin to be used as instruments of evil. Instead, give yourselvesto God, as people brought to life from the dead, and give every part of your bodies to God to be instruments ofuprightness;	13 E non prestate le vostre membra ad essere armi d’iniquità al peccato; anzi presentate voi stessi a Dio, come di morti fatti viventi; e le vostre membra ad essere armi di giustizia a Dio.
14 and then sin wil no longer have any power over you -- you are living not under law, but under grace.	14 Perciocchè il peccato non vi signoreggerà; poichè non siete sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia.
15 What is the implication? That we are free to sin, now that we are not under law but under grace? Outof the question!	15 Che dunque? peccheremo noi, perciocchè non siamo sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia? Così non sia.
16 You know wel that if you undertake to be somebody's slave and obey him, you are the slave of himyou obey: you can be the slave either of sin which leads to death, or of obedience which leads to saving justice.	16 Non sapete voi, che a chiunque vi rendete servi per ubbidirgli, siete servi a colui a cui ubbidite, o di peccato a morte, o d’ubbidienza a giustizia?
17 Once you were slaves of sin, but thank God you have given whole-hearted obedience to the patternof teaching to which you were introduced;	17 Ora, ringraziato sia Iddio, ch’eravate servi del peccato; ma avete di cuore ubbidito alla forma della dottrina, nella quale siete stati tramutati.
18 and so, being freed from serving sin, you took uprightness as your master.	18 Ora, essendo stati francati dal peccato, voi siete stati fatti servi della giustizia.
19 I am putting it in human terms because you are stil weak human beings: as once you surrenderedyourselves as servants to immorality and to a lawlessness which results in more lawlessness, now you have tosurrender yourselves to uprightness which is to result in sanctification.	19 Io parlo nella maniera degli uomini, per la debolezza della vostra carne. Perciocchè, siccome già prestaste le vostre membra ad esser serve alla bruttura, ed all’iniquità, per commetter l’iniquità; così ora dovete prestare le vostre membra ad esser serve alla giustizia, a santificazione.
20 When you were the servants of sin, you felt no obligation to uprightness,	20 Perciocchè, allora che voi eravate servi del peccato, voi eravate franchi della giustizia.
21 and what did you gain from living like that? Experiences of which you are now ashamed, for that sortof behaviour ends in death.	21 Qual frutto adunque avevate allora nelle cose, delle quali ora vi vergognate? poichè la fin d’esse è la morte.
22 But, now you are set free from sin and bound to the service of God, your gain wil be sanctificationand the end will be eternal life.	22 Ma ora, essendo stati francati dal peccato, e fatti servi a Dio, voi avete il vostro frutto a santificazione, ed alla fine vita eterna.
23 For the wage paid by sin is death; the gift freely given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.	23 Perciocchè il salario del peccato è la morte, ma il dono di Dio è la vita eterna, in Cristo Gesù, nostro Signore
