1 In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning	1 Nel primo libro parlai, o Teofilo, di tutto quello che Gesù fece ed insegnò
2 until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and wastaken up to heaven.	2 dal principio fino al giorno in cui, dati, per mezzo dello Spirito Santo, i suoi ordini agli Apostoli che aveva eletti, fu assunto;
3 He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he hadcontinued to appear to them and tel them about the kingdom of God.	3 ai quali si diede anche a vedere vivo, dopo la sua passione, con molte riprove, apparendo ad essi per quaranta giorni e ragionando del regno di Dio.
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Fatherhad promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:	4 Ed essendo insieme a mensa, comandò loro di non allontanarsi da Gerusalemme, ma di aspettare la promessa del Padre, la quale avete udita (disse) dalla mia bocca,
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the HolySpirit.'	5 perché Giovanni battezzò coll'acqua; ma voi sarete battezzati collo Spirito Santo, di qui a non molti giorni.
6 Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom toIsrael?'	6 Ma i convenuti gli domandavano: Signore, lo ricostituirai ora il regno d'Israele?
7 He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,	7 Rispose loro: Non sta a voi di sapere i tempi e i momenti che il Padre si è riservati in suo potere;
8 but you wil receive the power of the Holy Spirit which wil come on you, and then you will be mywitnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'	8 ma voi riceverete la virtù dello Spirito Santo che verrà sopra di voi, e mi sarete testimoni in Gerusalemme e in tutta la Giudea, e nella Samaria e fino all'estremità della terra.
9 As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 E, detto questo, mentre essi lo guardavano, si levò in alto; ed una nuvola lo tolse agli occhi loro.
10 They were stil staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing besidethem,	10 E, mentre stavano a mirarlo ascendere al cielo, ecco due personaggi in bianche vesti presentarsi loro
11 and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has beentaken up from you into heaven wil come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'	11 e dire ad essi: Uomini di Galilea, perchè state a guardare in cielo? Questo Gesù, che, tolto a voi, è stato assunto al cielo, cosi verrà come l'avete visto andare in cielo.
12 So from the Mount of Olives, as it is cal ed, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, nomore than a Sabbath walk;	12 Allora tornarono a Gerusalemme, dal monte chiamato dell'uliveto, che è vicino a Gerusalemme quanto il cammino d'un sabato.
13 and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peterand John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus andSimon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.	13 E, giunti che furono, salirono al cenacolo. E vi stavan Pietro e Giovanni, Giacomo e Andrea, Filippo e Tommaso, Bartolomeo e Matteo, Giacomo d'Alino e Simone Zelote, e Giuda di Giacomo.
14 With one heart al these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary themother of Jesus, and with his brothers.	14 Tutti questi perseveravano gli animi nell'orazione, insieme colle donne e con Maria, madre di Gesù, e coi fratelli di lui.
15 One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people inthe congregation,	15 E in quei giorni, alzatosi Pietro in mezzo ai fratelli (era il numero delle persone adunate di circa centoventi) disse:
16 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfil ed in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretel s the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-	16 Fratelli, è necessario che si adempia quella Scrittura predetta dallo Spirito Santo per bocca di David, riguardo a Giuda, il quale fu di guida a coloro che catturarono Gesù,
17 after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.	17 che era uno dei nostri ed ebbe la sorte di questo ministero.
18 As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong andburst open, and al his entrails poured out.	18 Egli però con la mercede dell'iniquità, comperò un campo, ed impiccatosi, crepò nel mezzo, e si sparsero tutte le sue viscere.
19 Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be cal ed "Bloody Acre", in their languageHakeldama.	19 E la cosa si è risaputa da tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, sicché nel loro linguaggio quel campo è stato chiamato « Aceldama », cioè campo del sangue.
20 Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. Andagain: Let someone else take over his office.	20 Or sta scritto nel libro dei Salmi: Diventi la loro abitazione deserta, nè vi sia chi ubiti in essa; e il suo ufficio lo prenda un altro.
21 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,	21 Bisogna dunque che di questi uomini, i quali sono stati insieme con noi per tutto quel tempo in cui il Signore Gesù è andato e venuto con noi,
22 from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must beappointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'	22 a cominciar dal battesimo di Giovanni fino al giorno in cui di mezzo a noi fu assunto, uno sia con noi costituito testimone della risurrezione di lui.
23 Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, andMatthias,	23 E ne proposero due: Giuseppe, detto Barsaba, soprannominato il Giusto e Mattia.
24 they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you havechosen	24 E dissero pregando: Tu, Signore, che conosci i cuori di tutti, mostra quale di questi due tu abbia scelto
25 to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'	25 a prender, in questo ministero e apostolato, il posto dal quale prevaricò Giuda, per andare nel suo luogo.
26 They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fel to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelveapostles.	26 E li tirarono a sorte, e la sorte cadde su Mattia, ed egli fu aggregato agli undici apostoli.
