1 In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning	1 Cher Théophile, dans une première partie j’ai parlé de tout ce que Jésus avait commencé de faire et d’enseigner:
2 until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and wastaken up to heaven.	2 à la fin il donnait par l’Esprit Saint ses instructions aux apôtres qu’il avait choisis, et il était enlevé au ciel.
3 He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he hadcontinued to appear to them and tel them about the kingdom of God.	3 De fait, après sa passion il s’était présenté à eux: il vivait, et il leur en donna bien des preuves. Sur une période de quarante jours il se fit voir et leur parla du Royaume de Dieu.
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Fatherhad promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:	4 Un jour qu’il les tenait réunis, il leur dit de ne pas s’éloigner de Jérusalem, mais d’attendre ce que le Père avait promis: "Je vous en ai déjà parlé, leur dit-il:
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the HolySpirit.'	5 Jean a baptisé dans l’eau, mais vous, vous serez baptisés d’ici peu dans l’Esprit Saint.”
6 Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom toIsrael?'	6 Ceux qui étaient venus là lui posèrent la question: "Seigneur, est-ce donc maintenant que tu vas rétablir le royaume pour Israël?”
7 He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,	7 Il leur dit: "Vous n’avez pas à savoir les délais et les étapes que le Père lui-même a fixés.
8 but you wil receive the power of the Holy Spirit which wil come on you, and then you will be mywitnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'	8 Mais vous recevrez la force de l’Esprit Saint: il descendra sur vous et vous serez mes témoins, à Jérusalem d’abord, puis en Judée, en Samarie, et jusqu’au bout du monde.”
9 As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 Comme il disait cela, il fut enlevé sous leurs yeux; une nuée le cacha bientôt à leurs regards.
10 They were stil staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing besidethem,	10 Ils restaient là à regarder vers le ciel pendant qu’il s’éloignait. Mais voici que deux hommes vêtus de blanc se trouvent à leurs côtés
11 and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has beentaken up from you into heaven wil come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'	11 et leur disent: "Amis Galiléens, pourquoi restez-vous là à regarder vers le ciel? Ce Jésus qu’on vous reprend pour qu’il aille au ciel, il reviendra de la même façon que vous l’avez vu partir vers le ciel.”
12 So from the Mount of Olives, as it is cal ed, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, nomore than a Sabbath walk;	12 Alors ils retournèrent à Jérusalem depuis cet endroit qu’on appelle le Mont des Oliviers: il est tout près de Jérusalem, c’est juste le parcours autorisé un jour de sabbat.
13 and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peterand John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus andSimon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.	13 Aussitôt arrivés ils montèrent à l’étage, là où se logeaient Pierre, Jean, Jacques et André, Philippe et Thomas, Barthélemy et Matthieu, Jacques fils d’Alphée, Simon le Zélote et Jude frère de Jacques.
14 With one heart al these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary themother of Jesus, and with his brothers.	14 Tous persévéraient d’un même cœur dans la prière, et avec eux également des femmes, tout spécialement Marie, mère de Jésus, et ses frères.
15 One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people inthe congregation,	15 Dans les jours qui suivirent, Pierre prit la parole au milieu des frères; quelque 120 personnes étaient là réunies. Il leur dit:
16 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfil ed in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretel s the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-	16 "Frères, il fallait que s’accomplisse l’Écriture. Car l’Esprit Saint avait annoncé par la bouche de David le geste de Judas: il a guidé ceux qui sont venus arrêter Jésus,
17 after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.	17 alors qu’il faisait partie de notre groupe et bénéficiait de la même charge.
18 As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong andburst open, and al his entrails poured out.	18 (Cet homme s’est acheté un champ avec ce qu’on lui a payé pour son crime, puis il s’est précipité la tête la première et il s’est ouvert par le milieu: ses intestins sortaient par la blessure!
19 Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be cal ed "Bloody Acre", in their languageHakeldama.	19 L’affaire est connue de tous à Jérusalem et l’on a appelé ce champ: Aceldama, ce qui dans leur langue signifie: Champ du Sang.)
20 Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. Andagain: Let someone else take over his office.	20 “Il était bien écrit dans le livre des Psaumes: Que son enclos soit laissé dévasté, et sa tente sans habitants. Mais il est dit aussi: Qu’un autre reçoive sa charge.
21 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,	21 “Voyons donc parmi ceux qui ont été disciples avec nous tout le temps que le Seigneur Jésus a agi au milieu de nous,
22 from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must beappointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'	22 depuis le temps où Jean baptisait jusqu’au jour où il nous a été repris; il faut que l’un d’eux soit avec nous le témoin de sa Résurrection.”
23 Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, andMatthias,	23 On en présenta deux: Joseph Barsabas, surnommé Justus, et Matthias.
24 they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you havechosen	24 Alors ils firent cette prière: "Toi, Seigneur, qui connais tous les cœurs, montre-nous lequel des deux tu as choisi.
25 to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'	25 Qu’il puisse recevoir cette charge, ce ministère et cet apostolat dont Judas s’est retiré pour aller à la place qui lui correspondait.”
26 They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fel to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelveapostles.	26 On les fit tirer au sort, et le sort tomba sur Matthias. Il se retrouva donc parmi les apôtres avec les Onze.
