1 In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning	1 Il libro precedente l'ho dedicato, o Teofilo, ad esporre tutto ciò che Gesù ha operato e insegnato dall'inizio
2 until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and wastaken up to heaven.	2 fino al giorno in cui, dopo aver dato disposizioni agli apostoli che si era scelti nello Spirito Santo, fu assunto in cielo.
3 He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he hadcontinued to appear to them and tel them about the kingdom of God.	3 E' a questi stessi apostoli che si era mostrato vivo dopo la sua passione, con molte prove convincenti: durante quaranta giorni era apparso loro e aveva parlato delle cose del regno di Dio.
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Fatherhad promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:	4 Stando con essi a tavola, diede loro ordine di non allontanarsi da Gerusalemme, ma di aspettare la promessa del Padre, "che -- disse -- avete udito da me:
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the HolySpirit.'	5 Giovanni battezzò con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati in Spirito Santo di qui a non molti giorni".
6 Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom toIsrael?'	6 I convenuti lo interrogavano dicendo: "Signore, è questo il tempo in cui tu intendi restituire la potenza regale ad Israele?".
7 He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,	7 Egli rispose loro: "Non sta a voi il conoscere i tempi e le circostanze che il Padre ha determinato di propria autorità.
8 but you wil receive the power of the Holy Spirit which wil come on you, and then you will be mywitnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'	8 Ma lo Spirito Santo verrà su di voi e riceverete da lui la forza per essermi testimoni in Gerusalemme e in tutta la Giudea, e la Samaria e fino all'estremità della terra".
9 As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 Dette queste cose, mentre essi lo stavano guardando, fu levato in alto e una nube lo sottrasse ai loro occhi.

11 and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has beentaken up from you into heaven wil come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'	11 dicendo: "Uomini di Galilea, perché ve ne state guardando verso il cielo? Questo Gesù che è stato assunto di mezzo a voi verso il cielo, verrà così, in quel modo come lo avete visto andarsene in cielo".
12 So from the Mount of Olives, as it is cal ed, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, nomore than a Sabbath walk;	12 Allora ritornarono a Gerusalemme dal monte chiamato Oliveto, che si trova vicino a Gerusalemme quanto il cammino di un sabato.
13 and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peterand John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus andSimon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.	13 Entrati in città, salirono nel locale del piano superiore dove abitavano. Vi erano: Pietro, Giovanni, Giacomo e Andrea, Filippo e Tommaso, Bartolomeo e Matteo, Giacomo figlio di Alfeo e Simone lo Zelota e Giuda, figlio di Giacomo.
14 With one heart al these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary themother of Jesus, and with his brothers.	14 Tutti costoro attendevano costantemente con un cuor solo alla preghiera con le donne e Maria, la madre di Gesù, e con i fratelli di lui.
15 One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people inthe congregation,	15 In quei giorni Pietro, levatosi in mezzo ai fratelli, riunite insieme circa centoventi persone, disse:
16 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfil ed in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretel s the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-	16 "Fratelli, era necessario che si adempisse la parola della Scrittura, predetta dallo Spirito Santo per bocca di Davide, riguardo a Giuda, il quale si fece guida di coloro che catturarono Gesù,
17 after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.	17 dal momento che egli era stato annoverato tra noi e ricevette la sorte di questo ministero.
18 As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong andburst open, and al his entrails poured out.	18 Costui dunque si comprò un campo con il prezzo dell'ingiustizia, e precipitando si spaccò in mezzo e si sparsero tutte le sue viscere.
19 Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be cal ed "Bloody Acre", in their languageHakeldama.	19 Ciò fu noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, cosicché quel campo fu chiamato nel dialetto loro Akeldamà, ossia Campo del sangue.
20 Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. Andagain: Let someone else take over his office.	20 E' infatti scritto nel libro dei Salmi: Divenga la dimora di lui deserta, e non vi sia chi abiti in essa; e: L'ufficio di lui lo prenda un altro.
21 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,	21 Occorre dunque che uno tra coloro che sono stati con noi per tutto il tempo in cui dimorò tra noi il Signore Gesù,
22 from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must beappointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'	22 cominciando dal battesimo di Giovanni fino al giorno in cui fu di tra noi assunto al cielo, divenga testimonio con noi della sua risurrezione".
23 Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, andMatthias,	23 Ne furono proposti due, Giuseppe chiamato Barsabba, che era soprannominato Giusto, e Mattia.
24 they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you havechosen	24 E pregarono dicendo: "Tu, Signore, che conosci i cuori di tutti, mostra quello che hai scelto tra questi due
25 to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'	25 per prendere il posto di questo ministero e apostolato, da cui prevaricò Giuda per andare nel luogo suo".
26 They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fel to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelveapostles.	26 E gettarono le sorti per essi, e la sorte cadde su Mattia, che fu aggregato agli undici apostoli.
