NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning	1 En mi primer Libro, querido Teófilo, me referí a todo lo que hizo y enseñó Jesús, desde el comienzo,
2 until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and wastaken up to heaven.	2 hasta el día en que subió al cielo, después de haber dado, por medio del Espíritu Santo, sus últimas instrucciones a los Apóstoles que había elegido.
3 He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he hadcontinued to appear to them and tel them about the kingdom of God.	3 Después de su Pasión, Jesús se manifestó a ellos dándoles numerosas pruebas de que vivía, y durante cuarenta días se le apareció y les habló del Reino de Dios.
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Fatherhad promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:	4 En una ocasión, mientras estaba comiendo con ellos, les recomendó que no se alejaran de Jerusalén y esperaran la promesa del Padre: «La promesa, les dijo, que yo les he anunciado.
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the HolySpirit.'	5 Porque Juan bautizó con agua, pero ustedes serán bautizados en el Espíritu Santo, dentro de pocos días».
6 Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom toIsrael?'	6 Los que estaban reunidos le preguntaron: «Señor, ¿es ahora cuando vas a restaurar el reino de Israel?».
7 He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,	7 El les respondió: «No les corresponde a ustedes conocer el tiempo y el momento que el Padre ha establecido con su propia autoridad.
8 but you wil receive the power of the Holy Spirit which wil come on you, and then you will be mywitnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'	8 Pero recibirán la fuerza del Espíritu Santo que descenderá sobre ustedes, y serán mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Samaría, y hasta los confines de la tierra».
9 As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 Dicho esto, los Apóstoles lo vieron elevarse, y una nube lo ocultó de la vista de ellos.
10 They were stil staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing besidethem,	10 Como permanecían con la mirada puesta en el cielo mientras Jesús subía, se les aparecieron dos hombres vestidos de blanco,
11 and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has beentaken up from you into heaven wil come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'	11 que les dijeron: «Hombres de Galilea, ¿por qué siguen mirando al cielo? Este Jesús que les ha sido quitado y fue elevado al cielo, vendrá de la misma manera que lo han visto partir».
12 So from the Mount of Olives, as it is cal ed, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, nomore than a Sabbath walk;	12 Los Apóstoles regresaron entonces del monte de los Olivos a Jerusalén: la distancia entre ambos sitios es la que está permitida recorrer en día sábado.
13 and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peterand John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus andSimon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.	13 Cuando llegaron a la ciudad, subieron a la sala donde solían reunirse. Eran Pedro, Juan, Santiago, Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Santiago, hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas, hijo de Santiago.
14 With one heart al these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary themother of Jesus, and with his brothers.	14 Todos ellos, íntimamente unidos, se dedicaban a la oración, en compañía de algunas mujeres, de María, la madre de Jesús, y de sus hermanos.
15 One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people inthe congregation,	15 Uno de esos días, Pedro se puso de pie en medio de los hermanos –los que estaban reunidos eran alrededor de ciento veinte personas– y dijo:
16 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfil ed in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretel s the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-	16 «Hermanos, era necesario que se cumpliera la Escritura en la que el Espíritu Santo, por boca de David, habla de Judas, que fue el jefe de los que apresaron a Jesús.
17 after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.	17 El era uno de los nuestros y había recibido su parte en nuestro ministerio.
18 As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong andburst open, and al his entrails poured out.	18 Pero después de haber comprado un campo con el precio de su crimen, cayó de cabeza, y su cuerpo se abrió, dispersándose sus entrañas.
19 Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be cal ed "Bloody Acre", in their languageHakeldama.	19 El hecho fue tan conocido por todos los habitantes de Jerusalén, que ese campo fue llamado en su idioma Hacéldama, que quiere decir: «Campo de sangre».
20 Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. Andagain: Let someone else take over his office.	20 En el libro de los Salmos está escrito: Que su casa quede desierta y nadie la habite. Y más adelante: Que otro ocupe su cargo.
21 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,	21 Es necesario que uno de los que han estado en nuestra compañía durante todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús permaneció con nosotros,
22 from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must beappointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'	22 desde el bautismo de Juan hasta el día de la ascensión, sea constituido junto con nosotros testigo de su resurrección».
23 Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, andMatthias,	23 Se propusieron dos: José, llamado Barsabás, de sobrenombre el Justo, y Matías.
24 they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you havechosen	24 Y oraron así: «Señor, tú que conoces los corazones de todos, muéstranos a cuál de los dos elegiste
25 to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'	25 para desempeñar el ministerio del apostolado, dejado por Judas al irse al lugar que le correspondía».
26 They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fel to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelveapostles.	26 Echaron suertes, y la elección cayó sobre Matías, que fue agregado a los once Apóstoles.
