John 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 There was one of the Pharisees called Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews,	1 Vi era tra i farisei un uomo di nome Nicodèmo, uno dei capi dei Giudei.
2 who came to Jesus by night and said, 'Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher; forno one could perform the signs that you do unless God were with him.'	2 Costui andò da Gesù, di notte, e gli disse: «Rabbì, sappiamo che sei venuto da Dio come maestro; nessuno infatti può compiere questi segni che tu compi, se Dio non è con lui».
3 Jesus answered: In al truth I tel you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born fromabove.	3 Gli rispose Gesù: «In verità, in verità io ti dico, se uno non nasce dall’alto, non può vedere il regno di Dio».
4 Nicodemus said, 'How can anyone who is already old be born? Is it possible to go back into the wombagain and be born?'	4 Gli disse Nicodèmo: «Come può nascere un uomo quando è vecchio? Può forse entrare una seconda volta nel grembo di sua madre e rinascere?».
5 Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born throughwater and the Spirit;	5 Rispose Gesù: «In verità, in verità io ti dico, se uno non nasce da acqua e Spirito, non può entrare nel regno di Dio.
6 what is born of human nature is human; what is born of the Spirit is spirit.	6 Quello che è nato dalla carne è carne, e quello che è nato dallo Spirito è spirito.
7 Do not be surprised when I say: You must be born from above.	7 Non meravigliarti se ti ho detto: dovete nascere dall’alto.
8 The wind blows where it pleases; you can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from orwhere it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.	8 Il vento soffia dove vuole e ne senti la voce, ma non sai da dove viene né dove va: così è chiunque è nato dallo Spirito».
9 'How is that possible?' asked Nicodemus.	9 Gli replicò Nicodèmo: «Come può accadere questo?».
10 Jesus replied, 'You are the Teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things!	10 Gli rispose Gesù: «Tu sei maestro d’Israele e non conosci queste cose?
11 'In al truth I tel you, we speak only about what we know and witness only to what we have seen and yet you people reject our evidence.	11 In verità, in verità io ti dico: noi parliamo di ciò che sappiamo e testimoniamo ciò che abbiamo veduto; ma voi non accogliete la nostra testimonianza.
12 If you do not believe me when I speak to you about earthly things, how wil you believe me when Ispeak to you about heavenly things?	12 Se vi ho parlato di cose della terra e non credete, come crederete se vi parlerò di cose del cielo?
13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of man;	13 Nessuno è mai salito al cielo, se non colui che è disceso dal cielo, il Figlio dell’uomo.
14 as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up	14 E come Mosè innalzò il serpente nel deserto, così bisogna che sia innalzato il Figlio dell’uomo,
15 so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.	15 perché chiunque crede in lui abbia la vita eterna.
16 For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him maynot perish but may have eternal life.	16 Dio infatti ha tanto amato il mondo da dare il Figlio unigenito, perché chiunque crede in lui non vada perduto, ma abbia la vita eterna.
17 For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might besaved.	17 Dio, infatti, non ha mandato il Figlio nel mondo per condannare il mondo, ma perché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui.
18 No one who believes in him wil be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, becausethat person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.	18 Chi crede in lui non è condannato; ma chi non crede è già stato condannato, perché non ha creduto nel nome dell’unigenito Figlio di Dio.
19 And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness tothe light because their deeds were evil.	19 E il giudizio è questo: la luce è venuta nel mondo, ma gli uomini hanno amato più le tenebre che la luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie.
20 And indeed, everybody who does wrong hates the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from beingshown up;	20 Chiunque infatti fa il male, odia la luce, e non viene alla luce perché le sue opere non vengano riprovate.
21 but whoever does the truth comes out into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear asdone in God.'	21 Invece chi fa la verità viene verso la luce, perché appaia chiaramente che le sue opere sono state fatte in Dio».
22 After this, Jesus went with his disciples into the Judaean countryside and stayed with them there andbaptised.	22 Dopo queste cose, Gesù andò con i suoi discepoli nella regione della Giudea, e là si tratteneva con loro e battezzava.
23 John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, where there was plenty of water, and people were goingthere and were being baptised.	23 Anche Giovanni battezzava a Ennòn, vicino a Salìm, perché là c’era molta acqua; e la gente andava a farsi battezzare.
24 For John had not yet been put in prison.	24 Giovanni, infatti, non era ancora stato gettato in prigione.
25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew about purification,	25 Nacque allora una discussione tra i discepoli di Giovanni e un Giudeo riguardo alla purificazione rituale.
26 so they went to John and said, 'Rabbi, the man who was with you on the far side of the Jordan, theman to whom you bore witness, is baptising now, and everyone is going to him.'	26 Andarono da Giovanni e gli dissero: «Rabbì, colui che era con te dall’altra parte del Giordano e al quale hai dato testimonianza, ecco, sta battezzando e tutti accorrono a lui».
27 John replied: 'No one can have anything except what is given him from heaven.	27 Giovanni rispose: «Nessuno può prendersi qualcosa se non gli è stata data dal cielo.
28 'You yourselves can bear me out. I said, "I am not the Christ; I am the one who has been sent to go infront of him."	28 Voi stessi mi siete testimoni che io ho detto: “Non sono io il Cristo”, ma: “Sono stato mandato avanti a lui”.
29 'It is the bridegroom who has the bride; and yet the bridegroom's friend, who stands there and listensto him, is fil ed with joy at the bridegroom's voice. This is the joy I feel, and it is complete.	29 Lo sposo è colui al quale appartiene la sposa; ma l’amico dello sposo, che è presente e l’ascolta, esulta di gioia alla voce dello sposo. Ora questa mia gioia è piena.
30 He must grow greater, I must grow less.	30 Lui deve crescere; io, invece, diminuire».
31 He who comes from above is above al others; he who is of the earth is earthly himself and speaks inan earthly way. He who comes from heaven	31 Chi viene dall’alto è al di sopra di tutti; ma chi viene dalla terra, appartiene alla terra e parla secondo la terra. Chi viene dal cielo è al di sopra di tutti.
32 bears witness to the things he has seen and heard, but his testimony is not accepted by anybody;	32 Egli attesta ciò che ha visto e udito, eppure nessuno accetta la sua testimonianza.
33 though anyone who does accept his testimony is attesting that God is true,	33 Chi ne accetta la testimonianza, conferma che Dio è veritiero.
34 since he whom God has sent speaks God's own words, for God gives him the Spirit without reserve.	34 Colui infatti che Dio ha mandato dice le parole di Dio: senza misura egli dà lo Spirito.
35 The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to his hands.	35 Il Padre ama il Figlio e gli ha dato in mano ogni cosa.
36 Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son willnever see life: God's retribution hangs over him.'	36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha la vita eterna; chi non obbedisce al Figlio non vedrà la vita, ma l’ira di Dio rimane su di lui.
