Deuteronomy 10

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Yahweh then said to me, "Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and come up to me on themountain. Make an ark of wood;	1 In quel tempo il Signore mi disse: "Taglia due tavole di pietra come le prime e sali da me sul monte; costruisci anche un'arca di legno.
2 on the tablets I shal inscribe the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; put them in theark."	2 Scriverò sulle tavole le parole che si trovavano sulle prime tavole che tu hai spezzato e tu le metterai nell'arca".
3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, cut two stone tablets like the first and went up the mountain with thetwo tablets in my hand.	3 Feci dunque un'arca di legno di acacia, tagliai le due tavole di pietra come le prime e salii sul monte con le due tavole in mano.
4 And he inscribed the tablets, as he had inscribed them before, with the Ten Words which Yahweh hadsaid to you on the mountain, from the heart of the fire, on the day of the Assembly. Yahweh then gave them tome.	4 Il Signore scrisse sulle tavole com'era scritto prima, le dieci parole che vi aveva detto sul monte, in mezzo al fuoco, nel giorno dell'assemblea, e me le consegnò.
5 I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, and there theystayed, as Yahweh had commanded me.	5 Io mi voltai, discesi dal monte e collocai le tavole nell'arca che avevo fatto: qui esse restarono come mi aveva ordinato il Signore.
6 'The Israelites left the wel s of the Bene-Jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died; he was buried there,and his son Eleazar succeeded him in the priesthood.	6 I figli di Israele partirono dai pozzi dei figli di Iaakan per Mosera; qui Aronne morì e fu sepolto; divenne sacerdote Eleazaro suo figlio al suo posto.
7 From there, they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, an area rich in streams.	7 Di là partirono per Gudgoda, e da Gudgoda per Iotbata, terra dai torrenti d'acqua.
8 Yahweh then set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of Yahweh's covenant, to stand in thepresence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his name, as they stil do today.	8 In quel tempo il Signore destinò la tribù di Levi a portare l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, a stare dinanzi a lui, a servirlo e a benedire nel suo nome, com'è ancora oggi.
9 This is why Levi has no share or heritage with his brothers: Yahweh is his heritage, as Yahweh yourGod then told him.	9 Perciò Levi non ha parte né eredità con i fratelli: il Signore è la sua eredità, come gli aveva detto il Signore tuo Dio.
10 'And, as before, I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights. And again Yahweh heardmy prayer and agreed not to destroy you.	10 Io rimasi sul monte come la prima volta quaranta giorni e quaranta notti. Il Signore mi ascoltò anche questa volta e non ti distrusse.
11 And Yahweh said to me, "Be on your way at the head of this people, so that they can go and takepossession of the country which I swore to their ancestors that I would give them."	11 Il Signore mi disse: "Alzati, va' a metterti alla testa di questo popolo, perché vadano a conquistare la terra che ho giurato ai loro padri di dare loro".
12 'And now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God ask of you? Only this: to fear Yahweh your God, tofol ow all his ways, to love him, to serve Yahweh your God with al your heart and al your soul,	12 Ora, o Israele, che cosa chiede a te il Signore tuo Dio se non di temere il Signore tuo Dio, di seguire tutte le sue vie, di amarlo, di servire il Signore tuo Dio con tutto il tuo cuore e con tutta la tua anima,
13 to keep the commandments and laws of Yahweh, which I am laying down for you today for your owngood.	13 di osservare i precetti del Signore e le prescrizioni che oggi ti ordino per il tuo bene?
14 'Look, to Yahweh your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth and everything onit;	14 Ecco, il cielo e i cieli dei cieli, la terra e quanto è in essa appartengono al Signore tuo Dio;
15 yet it was on your ancestors, for love of them, that Yahweh set his heart to love them, and he chosetheir descendants after them, you yourselves, out of all nations, up to the present day.	15 tuttavia il Signore si è unito ai tuoi padri per amor loro e ha scelto fra tutti i popoli la loro discendenza dopo di loro, cioè voi, com'è ancora oggi.
16 Circumcise your heart then and be obstinate no longer;	16 Circoncidete il vostro cuore e non gonfiate più il vostro collo,
17 for Yahweh your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, triumphant and terrible, free of favouritism, never to be bribed.	17 perché il Signore vostro Dio, lui è il Dio degli dèi, il Signore dei signori, il Dio grande, forte e terribile che non fa preferenza di persona né prende regali,
18 He it is who sees justice done for the orphan and the widow, who loves the stranger and gives himfood and clothing.	18 che fa giustizia all'orfano e alla vedova, ama il forestiero e gli dà pane e vestito.
19 (Love the stranger then, for you were once strangers in Egypt.)	19 Amate dunque il forestiero, perché anche voi siete stati forestieri nella terra d'Egitto.
20 Yahweh your God is the one whom you must fear and serve; to him you must hold firm; in his nametake your oaths.	20 Temerai il Signore tuo Dio, lui servirai, ti legherai a lui e nel suo nome giurerai.
21 Him you must praise, he is your God: for you he has done these great and terrible things which youhave seen for yourselves;	21 Egli è la tua lode, Egli è il tuo Dio, che ha compiuto con te quelle cose grandi e terribili che videro i tuoi occhi.
22 and, although your ancestors numbered only seventy persons when they went down to Egypt,Yahweh your God has now made you as many as the stars of heaven.'	22 In settanta persone sono discesi i tuoi padri in Egitto, e ora il Signore tuo Dio ti ha reso numeroso come le stelle del cielo.
