Deuteronomy 10

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 'Yahweh then said to me, "Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and come up to me on themountain. Make an ark of wood;	1 In tempore illo dixit Dominus ad me: “Dola tibi duas tabulas lapideas, sicut priores fuerunt, et ascende ad me in montem faciesque tibi arcam ligneam.
2 on the tablets I shal inscribe the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; put them in theark."	2 Et scribam in tabulis verba, quae fuerunt in his, quas ante confregisti, ponesque eas in arca”.
3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, cut two stone tablets like the first and went up the mountain with thetwo tablets in my hand.	3 Feci igitur arcam de lignis acaciae; cumque dolassem duas tabulas lapideas instar priorum, ascendi in montem habens eas in manibus.
4 And he inscribed the tablets, as he had inscribed them before, with the Ten Words which Yahweh hadsaid to you on the mountain, from the heart of the fire, on the day of the Assembly. Yahweh then gave them tome.	4 Scripsitque in tabulis iuxta id quod prius scripserat, verba decem, quae locutus est Dominus ad vos in monte de medio ignis, quando populus congregatus est, et dedit eas mihi.
5 I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, and there theystayed, as Yahweh had commanded me.	5 Reversusque de monte descendi et posui tabulas in arcam, quam feceram; quae hucusque ibi sunt, sicut mihi praecepit Dominus.
6 'The Israelites left the wel s of the Bene-Jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died; he was buried there,and his son Eleazar succeeded him in the priesthood.	6 Filii autem Israel castra moverunt ex Berothbeneiacan in Mosera, ubi Aaron mortuus ac sepultus est; pro quo sacerdotio functus est Eleazar filius eius.
7 From there, they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, an area rich in streams.	7 Inde venerunt in Gadgad; de quo loco profecti castrametati sunt in Ietebatha, in terra torrentium aquarum.
8 Yahweh then set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of Yahweh's covenant, to stand in thepresence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his name, as they stil do today.	8 Eo tempore separavit Dominus tribum Levi, ut portaret arcam foederis Domini et staret coram eo in ministerio ac benediceret in nomine illius usque in praesentem diem.
9 This is why Levi has no share or heritage with his brothers: Yahweh is his heritage, as Yahweh yourGod then told him.	9 Quam ob rem non habuit Levi partem neque hereditatem cum fratribus suis, quia ipse Dominus hereditas eius est, sicut promisit ei Dominus Deus tuus.
10 'And, as before, I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights. And again Yahweh heardmy prayer and agreed not to destroy you.	10 Ego autem steti in monte sicut prius quadraginta diebus ac noctibus, exaudivitque me Dominus etiam hac vice et te perdere noluit.
11 And Yahweh said to me, "Be on your way at the head of this people, so that they can go and takepossession of the country which I swore to their ancestors that I would give them."	11 Dixitque mihi: “Surge, vade et praecede populum, ut ingrediatur et possideat terram, quam iuravi patribus eorum, ut traderem eis”.
12 'And now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God ask of you? Only this: to fear Yahweh your God, tofol ow all his ways, to love him, to serve Yahweh your God with al your heart and al your soul,	12 Et nunc, Israel, quid Dominus Deus tuus petit a te, nisi ut timeas Dominum Deum tuum et ambules in viis eius et diligas eum ac servias Domino Deo tuo in toto corde tuo et in tota anima tua
13 to keep the commandments and laws of Yahweh, which I am laying down for you today for your owngood.	13 custodiasque mandata Domini et praecepta eius, quae ego hodie praecipio, ut bene sit tibi?
14 'Look, to Yahweh your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth and everything onit;	14 En Domini Dei tui caelum est et caelum caeli, terra et omnia, quae in ea sunt;
15 yet it was on your ancestors, for love of them, that Yahweh set his heart to love them, and he chosetheir descendants after them, you yourselves, out of all nations, up to the present day.	15 et tamen patribus tuis conglutinatus est Dominus et amavit eos elegitque semen eorum post eos, id est vos, de cunctis gentibus, sicut hodie comprobatur.
16 Circumcise your heart then and be obstinate no longer;	16 Circumcidite igitur praeputium cordis vestri et cervicem vestram, ne induretis amplius,
17 for Yahweh your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, triumphant and terrible, free of favouritism, never to be bribed.	17 quia Dominus Deus vester ipse est Deus deorum et Dominus dominantium, Deus magnus, potens et terribilis, qui personam non accipit nec munera,
18 He it is who sees justice done for the orphan and the widow, who loves the stranger and gives himfood and clothing.	18 facit iudicium pupillo et viduae, amat peregrinum et dat ei victum atque vestitum.
19 (Love the stranger then, for you were once strangers in Egypt.)	19 Et vos ergo, amate peregrinos, quia et ipsi fuistis advenae in terra Aegypti.
20 Yahweh your God is the one whom you must fear and serve; to him you must hold firm; in his nametake your oaths.	20 Dominum Deum tuum timebis et ei servies, ipsi adhaerebis iurabisque in nomine illius.
21 Him you must praise, he is your God: for you he has done these great and terrible things which youhave seen for yourselves;	21 Ipse est laus tua et Deus tuus, qui fecit tibi haec magnalia et terribilia, quae viderunt oculi tui.
22 and, although your ancestors numbered only seventy persons when they went down to Egypt,Yahweh your God has now made you as many as the stars of heaven.'	22 In septuaginta animabus descenderunt patres tui in Aegyptum; et ecce nunc multiplicavit te Dominus Deus tuus sicut astra caeli.
