Deuteronomy 10

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'Yahweh then said to me, "Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and come up to me on themountain. Make an ark of wood;	1 Yahvé me dit alors: "Taille deux tables de pierre comme les premières, monte vers moi sur lamontagne et fais-toi une arche de bois.
2 on the tablets I shal inscribe the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; put them in theark."	2 J'écrirai sur les tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières tables que tu as brisées, puis tules déposeras dans l'arche."
3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, cut two stone tablets like the first and went up the mountain with thetwo tablets in my hand.	3 Je fis une arche en bois d'acacia, je taillai les deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières,et je montai sur la montagne, les deux tables à la main.
4 And he inscribed the tablets, as he had inscribed them before, with the Ten Words which Yahweh hadsaid to you on the mountain, from the heart of the fire, on the day of the Assembly. Yahweh then gave them tome.	4 Il écrivit sur les tables, comme la première fois, les dix Paroles que Yahvé vous avait ditessur la montagne, du milieu du feu, au jour de l'Assemblée. Puis Yahvé me les donna.
5 I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, and there theystayed, as Yahweh had commanded me.	5 Je redescendis de la montagne, je mis les tables dans l'arche que j'avais faite et elles yrestèrent, comme Yahvé me l'avait ordonné.
6 'The Israelites left the wel s of the Bene-Jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died; he was buried there,and his son Eleazar succeeded him in the priesthood.	6 Les Israélites quittèrent les puits des Bené-Yaaqân pour Moséra, c'est là que mourut Aaron;il fut enterré là, et c'est Eléazar son fils qui lui succéda comme prêtre.
7 From there, they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, an area rich in streams.	7 Ils partirent de là pour Gudgoda, et de Gudgoda pour Yotbata, terre riche en cours d'eau.
8 Yahweh then set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of Yahweh's covenant, to stand in thepresence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his name, as they stil do today.	8 Yahvé mit alors à part la tribu de Lévi, pour porter l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé, se tenir enprésence de Yahvé, le servir et bénir en son nom jusqu'à ce jour.
9 This is why Levi has no share or heritage with his brothers: Yahweh is his heritage, as Yahweh yourGod then told him.	9 Aussi n'y eut-il pas pour Lévi de part ni d'héritage avec ses frères: c'est Yahvé qui est sonhéritage comme Yahvé ton Dieu le lui a dit.
10 'And, as before, I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights. And again Yahweh heardmy prayer and agreed not to destroy you.	10 Pour moi, je me tins sur la montagne, comme la première fois, 40 jours et 40 nuits. Cettefois encore Yahvé m'exauça, et Yahvé renonça à te détruire.
11 And Yahweh said to me, "Be on your way at the head of this people, so that they can go and takepossession of the country which I swore to their ancestors that I would give them."	11 Mais Yahvé me dit: "Debout! Pars et va-t-en à la tête de ce peuple, afin qu'ils aillentprendre possession du pays que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner."
12 'And now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God ask of you? Only this: to fear Yahweh your God, tofol ow all his ways, to love him, to serve Yahweh your God with al your heart and al your soul,	12 Et maintenant, Israël, que te demande Yahvé ton Dieu, sinon de craindre Yahvé ton Dieu,de suivre toutes ses voies, de l'aimer, de servir Yahvé ton Dieu de tout ton coeur et de toute ton âme,
13 to keep the commandments and laws of Yahweh, which I am laying down for you today for your owngood.	13 de garder les commandements de Yahvé et ses lois que je te prescris aujourd'hui pour tonbonheur?
14 'Look, to Yahweh your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth and everything onit;	14 C'est bien à Yahvé ton Dieu qu'appartiennent les cieux et les cieux des cieux, la terre et toutce qui s'y trouve.
15 yet it was on your ancestors, for love of them, that Yahweh set his heart to love them, and he chosetheir descendants after them, you yourselves, out of all nations, up to the present day.	15 Yahvé pourtant ne s'est attaché qu'à tes pères, par amour pour eux, et après eux il a élu entretoutes les nations leur descendance, vous-mêmes, jusqu'aujourd'hui.
16 Circumcise your heart then and be obstinate no longer;	16 Circoncisez votre coeur et ne raidissez plus votre nuque,
17 for Yahweh your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, triumphant and terrible, free of favouritism, never to be bribed.	17 car Yahvé votre Dieu est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des seigneurs, le Dieu grand,vaillant et redoutable, qui ne fait pas acception de personnes et ne reçoit pas de présents.
18 He it is who sees justice done for the orphan and the widow, who loves the stranger and gives himfood and clothing.	18 C'est lui qui fait droit à l'orphelin et à la veuve, et il aime l'étranger, auquel il donne pain etvêtement.
19 (Love the stranger then, for you were once strangers in Egypt.)	19 (Aimez l'étranger car au pays d'Egypte vous fûtes des étrangers.)
20 Yahweh your God is the one whom you must fear and serve; to him you must hold firm; in his nametake your oaths.	20 C'est Yahvé ton Dieu que tu craindras et serviras, t'attachant à lui et jurant par son nom.
21 Him you must praise, he is your God: for you he has done these great and terrible things which youhave seen for yourselves;	21 C'est lui que tu dois louer et c'est lui ton Dieu: il a accompli pour toi ces choses grandes etredoutables que tes yeux ont vues;
22 and, although your ancestors numbered only seventy persons when they went down to Egypt,Yahweh your God has now made you as many as the stars of heaven.'	22 et, alors que tes pères n'étaient que 70 quand ils sont descendus en Egypte, Yahvé ton Dieut'a rendu aussi nombreux à présent que les étoiles des cieux.
