Luke 5

1 Now it happened that he was standing one day by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the crowd pressinground him listening to the word of God,	1 - Mentre intorno a lui la gente s'affollava per udire la parola di Dio, egli stava presso il lago di Genezaret;
2 when he caught sight of two boats at the water's edge. The fishermen had got out of them and werewashing their nets.	2 E vide ferme alla riva del lago due barche, dalle quali erano scesi i pescatori per lavare le reti.
3 He got into one of the boats -- it was Simon's -- and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then hesat down and taught the crowds from the boat.	3 Egli salì su una di quelle barche, su quella di Simone, e lo pregò di scostarsi un po' da terra. E, seduto sulla barca, ammaestrava la folla.
4 When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for acatch.'	4 Quando cessò di parlare, disse a Simone: «Prendi il largo, e calate le vostre reti per la pesca!».
5 Simon replied, 'Master, we worked hard al night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I wil payout the nets.'	5 Simone gli disse: «Maestro, noi abbiamo faticato tutta la notte e non abbiamo preso nulla; però sulla tua parola calerò la rete».
6 And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear,	6 Ciò fatto, presero tanta quantità di pesce che si rompeva loro la rete.
7 so they signal ed to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, theyfilled both boats to sinking point.	7 Allora fecero segno ai compagni dell'altra barca che venissero ad aiutarli. E vennero e riempirono tutt'e due le barche in modo che quasi affondavano.
8 When Simon Peter saw this he fel at the knees of Jesus saying, 'Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.'	8 Ciò visto, Simon Pietro, si gettò ai ginocchi di Gesù e gli disse: «Allontanati da me, perchè son uomo peccatore».
9 For he and all his companions were completely awestruck at the catch they had made;	9 Infatti un senso di spavento aveva colpito lui e tutti quelli che eran con lui, per la pesca dei pesci che avevano fatto;
10 so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. But Jesus said to Simon,'Do not be afraid; from now on it is people you wil be catching.'	10 così pure Giacomo e Giovanni, figli di Zebedeo, compagni di Simone. E Gesù disse a Simone: «Non temere, d'ora innanzi tu sarai pescatore di uomini».
11 Then, bringing their boats back to land they left everything and fol owed him.	11 Ed essi, tirate a riva le barche e abbandonata ogni cosa, lo seguirono.
12 Now it happened that Jesus was in one of the towns when suddenly a man appeared, covered with askin-disease. Seeing Jesus he fel on his face and implored him saying, 'Sir, if you are wil ing you can cleanseme.'	12 Mente si trovava in una di quelle città, ecco un uomo coperto di lebbra, il quale, visto Gesù, si gettò bocconi per terra e lo pregò dicendo: «Signore, se vuoi, tu puoi mondarmi».
13 He stretched out his hand, and touched him saying, 'I am wil ing. Be cleansed.' At once the skin-disease left him.	13 Ed egli stesa la mano, lo toccò, dicendo: «Lo voglio: sii mondato». E subito la lebbra sparì da lui.
14 He ordered him to tell no one, 'But go and show yourself to the priest and make the offering for yourcleansing just as Moses prescribed, as evidence to them.'	14 Ed egli comandò di non dirlo a nessuno: «Ma va'», gli disse: «Presentati al sacerdote ed offri per la tua purificazione quel che Mosè ha prescritto e questo serva loro per testimonianza».
15 But the news of him kept spreading, and large crowds would gather to hear him and to have theiril nesses cured,	15 Ma la fama di lui si diffondeva più che mai, ed accorrevano molte persone per sentirlo e per essere guarite dai loro mali.
16 but he would go off to some deserted place and pray.	16 Ma egli si ritirava in luoghi solitari e pregava.
17 Now it happened that he was teaching one day, and Pharisees and teachers of the Law, who hadcome from every vil age in Galilee, from Judaea and from Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of theLord was there so that he should heal.	17 Un giorno Gesù stava insegnando, mentre attorno a lui eran seduti i Farisei, i dottori della legge, venuti da ogni paese di Galilea e di Giudea e da Gerusalemme; e la potenza del Signore era quivi presente per compiere delle guarigioni.
18 And now some men appeared, bringing on a bed a paralysed man whom they were trying to bring inand lay down in front of him.	18 Ed ecco degli uomini, che portavano sopra un letticciuolo un paralitico e cercavano d'introdurlo per metterglielo dinanzi.
19 But as they could find no way of getting the man through the crowd, they went up onto the top of thehouse and lowered him and his stretcher down through the tiles into the middle of the gathering, in front ofJesus.	19 Ma non potendo, a motivo della folla, trovar modo di introdurvelo, salirono sul tetto, e, fatta un'apertura tra le tegole, lo calarono giù in mezzo col letticciuolo, dinanzi a Gesù.
20 Seeing their faith he said, 'My friend, your sins are forgiven you.'	20 Vedendo la loro fede, disse: «Uomo, ti son rimessi i tuoi peccati».
21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to think this over. 'Who is this man, talking blasphemy? Who butGod alone can forgive sins?'	21 Allora gli Scribi e i Farisei cominciarono a pensare e dire: «Chi è costui che dice bestemmie? Chi può rimettere i peccati se non Dio solo?».
22 But Jesus, aware of their thoughts, made them this reply, 'What are these thoughts you have in yourhearts?	22 Gesù, conosciuti i loro pensieri, rispose così: «Cosa andate pensando nelle vostre menti?
23 Which of these is easier: to say, "Your sins are forgiven you," or to say, "Get up and walk"?	23 Che cosa è più facile il dire: - Ti son rimessi i tuoi peccati, - oppure il dire: - Lèvati su e cammina - ?
24 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' -- he said to theparalysed man-'I order you: get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home.'	24 Ora, affinchè voi sappiate che il Figliuol dell'uomo ha sulla terra il potere di rimettere i peccati», disse al paralitico: «Dico a te, lèvati su, prendi il tuo letticciuolo e va' a casa tua».
25 And immediately before their very eyes he got up, picked up what he had been lying on and wenthome praising God.	25 E alzatosi sull'atto, in lor presenza, prese il lettuccio dove giaceva e andò a casa sua, glorificando Iddio.
26 They were all astounded and praised God and were fil ed with awe, saying, 'We have seen strangethings today.'	26 E tutti furono presi da stupore e glorificavano Dio; e sbigottiti dicevano: «Oggi abbiamo veduto cose meravigliose».
27 When he went out after this, he noticed a tax collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax office, and saidto him, 'Fol ow me.'	27 Dopo queste cose, Gesù uscì e veduto un pubblicano, di nome Levi, che sedeva al banco, gli disse: «Seguimi».
28 And leaving everything Levi got up and fol owed him.	28 E colui, abbandonata ogni cosa, si alzò e lo seguì.
29 In his honour Levi held a great reception in his house, and with them at table was a large gathering oftax col ectors and others.	29 Levi gli fece un gran banchetto in casa sua, e c'era una gran folla di pubblicani e di altri che erano a tavola insieme.
30 The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples and said, 'Why do you eat and drink withtax col ectors and sinners?'	30 E i Farisei e i loro Scribi mormoravano e dicevano ai discepoli di lui: «Come mai mangiate e bevete coi pubblicani e coi peccatori?».
31 Jesus said to them in reply, 'It is not those that are wel who need the doctor, but the sick.	31 Gesù rispose loro: «Non hanno bisogno del medico i sani, ma i malati.
32 I have come to cal not the upright but sinners to repentance.'	32 Io non son venuto a chiamare a penitenza i giusti, ma i peccatori».
33 They then said to him, 'John's disciples are always fasting and saying prayers, and the disciples of thePharisees, too, but yours go on eating and drinking.'	33 Quelli poi gli domandarono: «Per qual motivo i discepoli di Giovanni e quelli dei Farisei digiunano spesso e fan delle preghiere mentre i tuoi mangiano e bevono?».
34 Jesus replied, 'Surely you cannot make the bridegroom's attendants fast while the bridegroom is stillwith them?	34 Gesù rispose loro: «Potete voi far digiunare gli amici dello sposo, mentre lo sposo è con essi?
35 But the time wil come when the bridegroom is taken away from them; then, in those days, they wilfast.'	35 Ma verrà giorno in cui lo sposo sarà tolto ad essi e allora, in quei giorni, digiuneranno».
36 He also told them a parable, 'No one tears a piece from a new cloak to put it on an old cloak;otherwise, not only wil the new one be torn, but the piece taken from the new wil not match the old.	36 Poi portò loro un paragone: «Nessuno attacca a un vestito vecchio un pezzo di panno nuovo; altrimenti si strappa il nuovo e la giunta del nuovo non combina col vecchio.
37 'And nobody puts new wine in old wineskins; otherwise, the new wine wil burst the skins and run towaste, and the skins wil be ruined.	37 E nessuno mette vino nuovo in otri vecchi; altrimenti il nuovo rompe gli otri, si versa e gli otri vanno in malora.
38 No; new wine must be put in fresh skins.	38 Ma il vino nuovo si deve mettere in otri nuovi, così si conserveranno l'uno e gli altri.
39 And nobody who has been drinking old wine wants new. "The old is good," he says.'	39 E nessuno che beve vino vecchio, ne desidera del nuovo, perchè dice: - Il vecchio è migliore -».
