Luke 5

1 Now it happened that he was standing one day by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the crowd pressinground him listening to the word of God,	1 Mentre la folla gli faceva ressa attorno per ascoltare la parola di Dio, Gesù, stando presso il lago di Gennèsaret,
2 when he caught sight of two boats at the water's edge. The fishermen had got out of them and werewashing their nets.	2 vide due barche accostate alla sponda. I pescatori erano scesi e lavavano le reti.
3 He got into one of the boats -- it was Simon's -- and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then hesat down and taught the crowds from the boat.	3 Salì in una barca, che era di Simone, e lo pregò di scostarsi un poco da terra. Sedette e insegnava alle folle dalla barca.
4 When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for acatch.'	4 Quando ebbe finito di parlare, disse a Simone: «Prendi il largo e gettate le vostre reti per la pesca».
5 Simon replied, 'Master, we worked hard al night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I wil payout the nets.'	5 Simone rispose: «Maestro, abbiamo faticato tutta la notte e non abbiamo preso nulla; ma sulla tua parola getterò le reti».
6 And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear,	6 Fecero così e presero una quantità enorme di pesci e le loro reti quasi si rompevano.
7 so they signal ed to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, theyfilled both boats to sinking point.	7 Allora fecero cenno ai compagni dell’altra barca, che venissero ad aiutarli. Essi vennero e riempirono tutte e due le barche fino a farle quasi affondare.
8 When Simon Peter saw this he fel at the knees of Jesus saying, 'Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.'	8 Al vedere questo, Simon Pietro si gettò alle ginocchia di Gesù, dicendo: «Signore, allontànati da me, perché sono un peccatore».
9 For he and all his companions were completely awestruck at the catch they had made;	9 Lo stupore infatti aveva invaso lui e tutti quelli che erano con lui, per la pesca che avevano fatto;
10 so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. But Jesus said to Simon,'Do not be afraid; from now on it is people you wil be catching.'	10 così pure Giacomo e Giovanni, figli di Zebedeo, che erano soci di Simone. Gesù disse a Simone: «Non temere; d’ora in poi sarai pescatore di uomini».
11 Then, bringing their boats back to land they left everything and fol owed him.	11 E, tirate le barche a terra, lasciarono tutto e lo seguirono.
12 Now it happened that Jesus was in one of the towns when suddenly a man appeared, covered with askin-disease. Seeing Jesus he fel on his face and implored him saying, 'Sir, if you are wil ing you can cleanseme.'	12 Mentre Gesù si trovava in una città, ecco, un uomo coperto di lebbra lo vide e gli si gettò dinanzi, pregandolo: «Signore, se vuoi, puoi purificarmi».
13 He stretched out his hand, and touched him saying, 'I am wil ing. Be cleansed.' At once the skin-disease left him.	13 Gesù tese la mano e lo toccò dicendo: «Lo voglio, sii purificato!». E immediatamente la lebbra scomparve da lui.
14 He ordered him to tell no one, 'But go and show yourself to the priest and make the offering for yourcleansing just as Moses prescribed, as evidence to them.'	14 Gli ordinò di non dirlo a nessuno: «Va’ invece a mostrarti al sacerdote e fa’ l’offerta per la tua purificazione, come Mosè ha prescritto, a testimonianza per loro».
15 But the news of him kept spreading, and large crowds would gather to hear him and to have theiril nesses cured,	15 Di lui si parlava sempre di più, e folle numerose venivano per ascoltarlo e farsi guarire dalle loro malattie.
16 but he would go off to some deserted place and pray.	16 Ma egli si ritirava in luoghi deserti a pregare.
17 Now it happened that he was teaching one day, and Pharisees and teachers of the Law, who hadcome from every vil age in Galilee, from Judaea and from Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of theLord was there so that he should heal.	17 Un giorno stava insegnando. Sedevano là anche dei farisei e maestri della Legge, venuti da ogni villaggio della Galilea e della Giudea, e da Gerusalemme. E la potenza del Signore gli faceva operare guarigioni.
18 And now some men appeared, bringing on a bed a paralysed man whom they were trying to bring inand lay down in front of him.	18 Ed ecco, alcuni uomini, portando su un letto un uomo che era paralizzato, cercavano di farlo entrare e di metterlo davanti a lui.
19 But as they could find no way of getting the man through the crowd, they went up onto the top of thehouse and lowered him and his stretcher down through the tiles into the middle of the gathering, in front ofJesus.	19 Non trovando da quale parte farlo entrare a causa della folla, salirono sul tetto e, attraverso le tegole, lo calarono con il lettuccio davanti a Gesù nel mezzo della stanza.
20 Seeing their faith he said, 'My friend, your sins are forgiven you.'	20 Vedendo la loro fede, disse: «Uomo, ti sono perdonati i tuoi peccati».
21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to think this over. 'Who is this man, talking blasphemy? Who butGod alone can forgive sins?'	21 Gli scribi e i farisei cominciarono a discutere, dicendo: «Chi è costui che dice bestemmie? Chi può perdonare i peccati, se non Dio soltanto?».
22 But Jesus, aware of their thoughts, made them this reply, 'What are these thoughts you have in yourhearts?	22 Ma Gesù, conosciuti i loro ragionamenti, rispose: «Perché pensate così nel vostro cuore?
23 Which of these is easier: to say, "Your sins are forgiven you," or to say, "Get up and walk"?	23 Che cosa è più facile: dire “Ti sono perdonati i tuoi peccati”, oppure dire “Àlzati e cammina”?
24 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' -- he said to theparalysed man-'I order you: get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home.'	24 Ora, perché sappiate che il Figlio dell’uomo ha il potere sulla terra di perdonare i peccati, dico a te – disse al paralitico –: àlzati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e torna a casa tua».
25 And immediately before their very eyes he got up, picked up what he had been lying on and wenthome praising God.	25 Subito egli si alzò davanti a loro, prese il lettuccio su cui era disteso e andò a casa sua, glorificando Dio.
26 They were all astounded and praised God and were fil ed with awe, saying, 'We have seen strangethings today.'	26 Tutti furono colti da stupore e davano gloria a Dio; pieni di timore dicevano: «Oggi abbiamo visto cose prodigiose».
27 When he went out after this, he noticed a tax collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax office, and saidto him, 'Fol ow me.'	27 Dopo questo egli uscì e vide un pubblicano di nome Levi, seduto al banco delle imposte, e gli disse: «Seguimi!».
28 And leaving everything Levi got up and fol owed him.	28 Ed egli, lasciando tutto, si alzò e lo seguì.
29 In his honour Levi held a great reception in his house, and with them at table was a large gathering oftax col ectors and others.	29 Poi Levi gli preparò un grande banchetto nella sua casa. C’era una folla numerosa di pubblicani e di altra gente, che erano con loro a tavola.
30 The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples and said, 'Why do you eat and drink withtax col ectors and sinners?'	30 I farisei e i loro scribi mormoravano e dicevano ai suoi discepoli: «Come mai mangiate e bevete insieme ai pubblicani e ai peccatori?».
31 Jesus said to them in reply, 'It is not those that are wel who need the doctor, but the sick.	31 Gesù rispose loro: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati;
32 I have come to cal not the upright but sinners to repentance.'	32 io non sono venuto a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori perché si convertano».
33 They then said to him, 'John's disciples are always fasting and saying prayers, and the disciples of thePharisees, too, but yours go on eating and drinking.'	33 Allora gli dissero: «I discepoli di Giovanni digiunano spesso e fanno preghiere, così pure i discepoli dei farisei; i tuoi invece mangiano e bevono!».
34 Jesus replied, 'Surely you cannot make the bridegroom's attendants fast while the bridegroom is stillwith them?	34 Gesù rispose loro: «Potete forse far digiunare gli invitati a nozze quando lo sposo è con loro?
35 But the time wil come when the bridegroom is taken away from them; then, in those days, they wilfast.'	35 Ma verranno giorni quando lo sposo sarà loro tolto: allora in quei giorni digiuneranno».
36 He also told them a parable, 'No one tears a piece from a new cloak to put it on an old cloak;otherwise, not only wil the new one be torn, but the piece taken from the new wil not match the old.	36 Diceva loro anche una parabola: «Nessuno strappa un pezzo da un vestito nuovo per metterlo su un vestito vecchio; altrimenti il nuovo lo strappa e al vecchio non si adatta il pezzo preso dal nuovo.
37 'And nobody puts new wine in old wineskins; otherwise, the new wine wil burst the skins and run towaste, and the skins wil be ruined.	37 E nessuno versa vino nuovo in otri vecchi; altrimenti il vino nuovo spaccherà gli otri, si spanderà e gli otri andranno perduti.
38 No; new wine must be put in fresh skins.	38 Il vino nuovo bisogna versarlo in otri nuovi.
39 And nobody who has been drinking old wine wants new. "The old is good," he says.'	39 Nessuno poi che beve il vino vecchio desidera il nuovo, perché dice: “Il vecchio è gradevole!”».
