NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered round him,	1 Si radunarono intorno a Gesù i farisei e alcuni scribi, venuti da Gerusalemme,
2 and they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with unclean hands, that is, without washingthem.	2 i quali notarono che alcuni dei suoi discepoli prendevano i pasti con mani impure, ossia non lavate.
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, keep the tradition of the elders and never eat without washing theirarms as far as the elbow;	3 I farisei, infatti, come tutti i Giudei, non mangiano se prima non si sono lavati accuratamente le mani, secondo la tradizione ricevuta dagli antichi;
4 and on returning from the market place they never eat without first sprinkling themselves. There arealso many other observances which have been handed down to them to keep, concerning the washing of cupsand pots and bronze dishes.	4 e anche tornando dal mercato, non mangiano senza prima essersi purificati. Vi sono, inoltre, molte altre cose che essi hanno ricevuto e che devono rispettare, come lavature di coppe, di orciuoli e di vasi di rame.
5 So the Pharisees and scribes asked him, 'Why do your disciples not respect the tradition of the eldersbut eat their food with unclean hands?'	5 I farisei e gli scribi, dunque, gli domandarono: "Perché i tuoi discepoli non si comportano secondo la tradizione degli antichi, ma mangiano il pane con mani impure?".
6 He answered, 'How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you hypocrites in the passage of scripture: Thispeople honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	6 Rispose loro: "Bene di voi, ipocriti, ha profetato Isaia, secondo quanto sta scritto: Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il loro cuore è lontano da me.
7 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.	7 Invano, però, mi prestano culto, mentre insegnano dottrine che sono precetti di uomini.
8 You put aside the commandment of God to observe human traditions.'	8 Infatti, lasciando da parte i comandamenti di Dio, voi vi attaccate alla tradizione degli antichi".
9 And he said to them, 'How ingeniously you get round the commandment of God in order to preserveyour own tradition!	9 Diceva ancora loro: "Con disinvoltura voi abrogate il comandamento di Dio per stabilire la vostra tradizione.
10 For Moses said: Honour your father and your mother, and, Anyone who curses father or mother mustbe put to death.	10 Mosè, infatti, ha detto: Onora tuo padre e tua madre; e: Chi oltraggia il padre e la madre sia punito con la morte.
11 But you say, "If a man says to his father or mother: Anything I have that I might have used to help youis Korban (that is, dedicated to God),"	11 Voi, invece, dite che se uno dice al padre o alla madre: Corbàn, cioè: sia offerta sacra ciò che da parte mia dovresti ricevere,
12 then he is forbidden from that moment to do anything for his father or mother.	12 non gli lasciate fare più nulla per il padre o per la madre.
13 In this way you make God's word ineffective for the sake of your tradition which you have handeddown. And you do many other things like this.'	13 Così annullate la parola di Dio per la tradizione che voi stessi vi siete tramandata. E di cose simili a questa ne fate ancora molte".
14 He called the people to him again and said, 'Listen to me, al of you, and understand.	14 Quindi, chiamata a sé di nuovo la folla, diceva loro: "Ascoltatemi tutti e intendete!
15 Nothing that goes into someone from outside can make that person unclean; it is the things that comeout of someone that make that person unclean.	15 Non c'è nulla di esterno all'uomo che, entrando in lui, possa contaminarlo. Piuttosto sono le cose che escono dall'uomo quelle che contaminano l'uomo.
16 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	16 Chi ha orecchi da intendere, intenda!".
17 When he had gone into the house, away from the crowd, his disciples questioned him about theparable.	17 Quando poi fu entrato in casa, lontano dalla folla, i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono intorno a tale parabola.
18 He said to them, 'Even you -- don't you understand? Can't you see that nothing that goes intosomeone from outside can make that person unclean,	18 Egli disse loro: "Anche voi siete ancora privi di intelligenza? Non capite che tutto ciò che di esterno entra nell'uomo non può contaminarlo,
19 because it goes not into the heart but into the stomach and passes into the sewer?' (Thus hepronounced al foods clean.)	19 giacché non entra nel suo cuore, bensì nel ventre per finire poi nella fogna?". Così dichiarava puri tutti gli alimenti.
20 And he went on, 'It is what comes out of someone that makes that person unclean.	20 E diceva: "Ciò che esce dall'uomo, questo, sì, contamina l'uomo.
21 For it is from within, from the heart, that evil intentions emerge: fornication, theft, murder,	21 Dall'interno, cioè dal cuore degli uomini, procedono i cattivi pensieri, le fornicazioni, i furti, le uccisioni,
22 adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, fol y.	22 gli adultèri, le cupidigie, le malvagità, l'inganno, la lascivia, l'invidia, la bestemmia, la superbia e la stoltezza.
23 Al these evil things come from within and make a person unclean.'	23 Tutte queste cose malvagie procedono dall'interno e contaminano l'uomo".
24 He left that place and set out for the territory of Tyre. There he went into a house and did not wantanyone to know he was there; but he could not pass unrecognised.	24 Partito di là, andò nel territorio di Tiro e di Sidone, ed essendo entrato in una casa voleva che nessuno lo sapesse, ma non poté restare nascosto.
25 At once a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him and came and fel at hisfeet.	25 Anzi, ben presto una donna, la cui figliola era posseduta da uno spirito immondo, avendo sentito parlare di lui, venne e gli si gettò ai piedi.
26 Now this woman was a gentile, by birth a Syro-Phoenician, and she begged him to drive the devil outof her daughter.	26 La donna era pagana e sirofenicia di origine. Lo pregò di scacciare il demonio da sua figlia,
27 And he said to her, 'The children should be fed first, because it is not fair to take the children's foodand throw it to little dogs.'	27 ma egli le disse: "Lascia che prima siano saziati i figli, perché non sta bene prendere il pane dei figli e gettarlo ai cagnolini".
28 But she spoke up, 'Ah yes, sir,' she replied, 'but little dogs under the table eat the scraps from thechildren.'	28 Quella, allora, replicò: "Sì, Signore, ma anche i cagnolini sotto la tavola mangiano le briciole dei figli!".
29 And he said to her, 'For saying this you may go home happy; the devil has gone out of your daughter.'	29 Egli, perciò, le disse: "A motivo di questa tua parola, va' pure! Il demonio è già uscito da tua figlia".
30 So she went off home and found the child lying on the bed and the devil gone.	30 Quella, tornata a casa, trovò la figlioletta stesa sul letto, mentre il demonio ne era già uscito.
31 Returning from the territory of Tyre, he went by way of Sidon towards the Lake of Galilee, right throughthe Decapolis territory.	31 Di nuovo, partito dal territorio di Tiro e passando per Sidone, venne al mare di Galilea, in mezzo al territorio della Decapoli.
32 And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay hishand on him.	32 Gli portarono un uomo sordo e muto e lo pregarono di imporgli le mani.
33 He took him aside to be by themselves, away from the crowd, put his fingers into the man's ears andtouched his tongue with spittle.	33 Allora egli, presolo in disparte, lontano dalla folla, gli mise le dita nelle orecchie e con la saliva gli toccò la lingua;
34 Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, 'Ephphatha,' that is, 'Be opened.'	34 quindi, alzati gli occhi al cielo, sospirò e disse: "Effathà!", che significa: "A'priti!".
35 And his ears were opened, and at once the impediment of his tongue was loosened and he spokeclearly.	35 E subito le sue orecchie si aprirono e il nodo della sua lingua si sciolse, sicché parlava correttamente.
36 And Jesus ordered them to tel no one about it, but the more he insisted, the more widely theyproclaimed it.	36 Egli comandò loro di non dirlo a nessuno; ma quanto più lo comandava, tanto più quelli lo divulgavano;
37 Their admiration was unbounded, and they said, 'Everything he does is good, he makes the deaf hearand the dumb speak.'	37 e al colmo dello stupore dicevano: "Ha fatto bene ogni cosa! Fa udire i sordi e parlare i muti!".
