1 The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered round him,	1 - I Farisei e alcuni Scribi venuti a Gerusalemme, si raccolsero presso Gesù,
2 and they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with unclean hands, that is, without washingthem.	2 e vedendo che taluno de' suoi discepoli prendeva i pasti con mani impure, cioè non lavate, li biasimarono;
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, keep the tradition of the elders and never eat without washing theirarms as far as the elbow;	3 perchè i Farisei e tutti i Giudei, attenendosi alla tradizione degli antichi, non mangiano senza essersi lavati più volte le mani;
4 and on returning from the market place they never eat without first sprinkling themselves. There arealso many other observances which have been handed down to them to keep, concerning the washing of cupsand pots and bronze dishes.	4 e tornando dal mercato, non mangiano prima d'aver fatto un bagno. Ed altre molte osservanze praticano, quali: lavature di bicchieri, d'orciuoli, di vasi di rame e di letti.
5 So the Pharisees and scribes asked him, 'Why do your disciples not respect the tradition of the eldersbut eat their food with unclean hands?'	5 I Farisei e gli Scribi quindi gli domandarono: «Perchè i tuoi discepoli non s'attengono alle tradizioni degli antichi e prendono i lor pasti senza lavarsi le mani?».
6 He answered, 'How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you hypocrites in the passage of scripture: Thispeople honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	6 Egli rispose loro: «Isaia ha veramente profetato di voi, o ipocriti, quando scrisse: "Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il loro cuore è lontano da me.
7 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.	7 Vano è il culto che mi rendono, perchè insegnano dottrine e prescrizioni di uomini"
8 You put aside the commandment of God to observe human traditions.'	8 lasciando da parte il comandamento di Dio, state attaccati alla tradizione degli uomini, purificando i vasi e i bicchieri e facendo altre cose simili.
9 And he said to them, 'How ingeniously you get round the commandment of God in order to preserveyour own tradition!	9 Voi sapete molto bene» soggiunse «trascurare il comandamento di Dio per osservare la vostra tradizione.
10 For Moses said: Honour your father and your mother, and, Anyone who curses father or mother mustbe put to death.	10 Mosè infatti ha detto: - Onora tuo padre e tua madre, - e: - Chi maledice il padre o la madre, sia punito di morte.-
11 But you say, "If a man says to his father or mother: Anything I have that I might have used to help youis Korban (that is, dedicated to God),"	11 Voi invece dite: - Se uno dice a suo padre o a sua madre: "Tutto quello con cui potrei assisterti è Corban" (cioè offerta a Dio) -
12 then he is forbidden from that moment to do anything for his father or mother.	12 non gli permettete più di far cosa alcuna a pro di suo padre o di sua madre
13 In this way you make God's word ineffective for the sake of your tradition which you have handeddown. And you do many other things like this.'	13 e rendete vana la parola di Dio mediante la tradizione che voi insegnate. E di simili cose ne fate tante!».
14 He called the people to him again and said, 'Listen to me, al of you, and understand.	14 Chiamata di nuovo intorno a sè la turba, le diceva: «Ascoltatemi tutti e intendete!
15 Nothing that goes into someone from outside can make that person unclean; it is the things that comeout of someone that make that person unclean.	15 Non c'è nulla fuor dell'uomo che entrando in esso possa contaminarlo; ma quel che esce dall'uomo, quello contamina l'uomo!
16 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	16 Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda».
17 When he had gone into the house, away from the crowd, his disciples questioned him about theparable.	17 E quando entrò in casa, lasciata la folla, i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono intorno alla parabola.
18 He said to them, 'Even you -- don't you understand? Can't you see that nothing that goes intosomeone from outside can make that person unclean,	18 Rispose loro: «Anche voi siete senza intelligenza? Non capite voi che tutto quello che dal di fuori entra nell'uomo, non lo può contaminare,
19 because it goes not into the heart but into the stomach and passes into the sewer?' (Thus hepronounced al foods clean.)	19 perchè non gli entra nel cuore, ma va nel ventre ed è espulso per recesso, purgando ogni alimento?».
20 And he went on, 'It is what comes out of someone that makes that person unclean.	20 Soggiunse poi: «Sol quanto esce dall'uomo lo contamina,
21 For it is from within, from the heart, that evil intentions emerge: fornication, theft, murder,	21 perchè dall'interno, cioè dal cuore degli uomini escono cattivi pensieri, adulterii, fornicazioni, omicidii,
22 adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, fol y.	22 furti, cupidigie, malizie, frode, libidine, invidia, bestemmia, superbia, stoltezza.
23 Al these evil things come from within and make a person unclean.'	23 Tutte queste malignità vengono dall'interno e contaminano l'uomo».
24 He left that place and set out for the territory of Tyre. There he went into a house and did not wantanyone to know he was there; but he could not pass unrecognised.	24 Partito di là, se n'andò verso i confini di Tiro e Sidone; ed entrato in una casa, desiderava che nessuno lo sapesse; ma non potè restarvi nascosto.
25 At once a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him and came and fel at hisfeet.	25 Perciò una donna, la cui figliuola aveva uno spirito immondo appena ebbe udito parlare di Gesù, entrò e gli si prostrò ai piedi.
26 Now this woman was a gentile, by birth a Syro-Phoenician, and she begged him to drive the devil outof her daughter.	26 La donna, pagana, Sirofenicia di nazione lo pregava di scacciare il demonio dalla sua figliuola.
27 And he said to her, 'The children should be fed first, because it is not fair to take the children's foodand throw it to little dogs.'	27 Ma Gesù le disse: «Lascia che prima sian saziati i figliuoli, perchè non è buona cosa prendere loro il pane e gettarlo ai cani».
28 But she spoke up, 'Ah yes, sir,' she replied, 'but little dogs under the table eat the scraps from thechildren.'	28 «È vero, Signore», rispose ella «però anche i cagnolini sotto la tavola mangian le briciole dei figliuoli».
29 And he said to her, 'For saying this you may go home happy; the devil has gone out of your daughter.'	29 E Gesù a lei: «Per quanto hai detto, va'; il demonio è uscito da tua figlia».
30 So she went off home and found the child lying on the bed and the devil gone.	30 Tornata a casa sua, trovò la fanciulla coricata sul letto, liberata dal demonio.
31 Returning from the territory of Tyre, he went by way of Sidon towards the Lake of Galilee, right throughthe Decapolis territory.	31 Partito di nuovo dai confini di Tiro, tornò per la via di Sidone, verso il mare di Galilea, e traversando il territorio della Decapoli,
32 And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay hishand on him.	32 gli menaron innanzi un uomo sordo e muto, supplicandolo di imporgli le mani.
33 He took him aside to be by themselves, away from the crowd, put his fingers into the man's ears andtouched his tongue with spittle.	33 Egli, trattolo in disparte, lungi dalla folla, gli mise le dita negli orecchi e con lo sputo gli toccò la lingua;
34 Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, 'Ephphatha,' that is, 'Be opened.'	34 poi, levati gli occhi al cielo, sospirò e disse: «Effetha!», che vuol dire: «Apriti!».
35 And his ears were opened, and at once the impediment of his tongue was loosened and he spokeclearly.	35 E subito gli si aprirono gli orecchi e si sciolse il nodo della lingua e parlava speditamente.
36 And Jesus ordered them to tel no one about it, but the more he insisted, the more widely theyproclaimed it.	36 Gesù ordinò loro di non parlare ad alcuno; ma più egli lo proibiva, più essi lo divulgavano
37 Their admiration was unbounded, and they said, 'Everything he does is good, he makes the deaf hearand the dumb speak.'	37 e l'ammiravano ripetendo: «Egli ha fatto bene ogni cosa: fa udire i sordi e fa parlare i muti».
