1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.	1 Gesù, vista la folla salì sul monte e, come fu seduto, gli si accostarono i suoi discepoli.
2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:	2 Allora egli incominciò ad ammaestrarli, dicendo:
3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.	3 Beati i poveri di spirito, perchè di essi è il regno dei cieli.
4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.	4 Beati i mansueti, perchè erediteranno la terra.
5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.	5 Beati quelli che piangono, perchè saranno consolati.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .	6 Beati i famelici e i sitibondi di giustizia, perchè saranno saziati.
7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.	7 Beati i misericordiosi, perchè troveranno misericordia.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.	8 Beati i puri di cuore, perchè vedranno Dio.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.	9 Beati i pacifici, perchè saranno chiamati figli di Dio.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.	10 Beati quelli che son perseguitati per causa della giustizia, perchè di essi è il regno dei cieli.
11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.	11 Beati voi, quando vi oltraggeranno e perseguiteranno e, mentendo, diranno di voi ogni male per cagion mia.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.	12 Rallegratevi ed esultate, perchè grande è la vostra ricompensa nei cieli, chè prima di voi in egual maniera han perseguitato i profeti.
13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.	13 Voi siete il sale della terra. E se il sale diviene scipito con che si salerà? Non è più buono che ad essere gettato via e calpestato dalla gente.
14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.	14 Voi siete la luce del mondo. Non può rimanere nascosta una città sopra una montagna.
15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.	15 Nè accendon la lucerna e la pongon sotto il moggio, ma sul candeliere, perchè faccia lume a tutti quelli che sono in casa.
16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.	16 Così risplenda la vostra luce davanti agli uomini, affinchè veggano le vostre opere buone e glorifichino il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.	17 Non crediate che io sia venuto ad abolire la legge o i profeti, non son venuto ad abolire, ma a completare.
18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.	18 In verità vi dico che fino a quando il cielo e la terra non trapassi, non scomparirà dalla legge neppure un iota od un apice finché non sia tutto adempiuto.
19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.	19 Chi pertanto violerà uno tra i minimi di questi comandamenti e insegnerà così agli uomini, sarà tenuto minimo nel regno dei cieli; ma colui che avrà operato e insegnato, sarà tenuto grande nel regno dei cieli.
20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.	20 E vi dico: se la vostra giustizia non sarà maggiore di quella degli Scribi e dei Farisei, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.
21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.	21 Udiste come fu detto agli antichi: Non uccidere, e chiunque avrà ucciso sarà condannato in giudizio;
22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.	22 ma io vi dico: chiunque si adira col suo fratello sarà condannato in giudizio. E chi avrà detto al fratello: « raca » sarà condannato nel Sinedrio. E chi gli avrà detto: « pazzo » sarà condannato al fuoco della Geenna.
23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,	23 Se dunque tu stai per fare la tua offerta all'altare ed ivi ti ricordi che il tuo fratello ha qualcosa contro di te,
24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.	24 lascia la tua offerta lì dinanzi all'altare, e va prima a riconciliarti col tuo fratello, e poi torna a fare la tua offerta.
25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.	25 Mettiti presto d'accordo col tuo avversario mentre sei con lui per la strada, chè egli non ti consegni al giudice, e questo alle guardie e sii cacciato in prigione.
26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.	26 In verità ti dico: non ne uscirai, finché non avrai pagato l'ultimo spicciolo.
27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.	27 Avete udito come fu detto agli antichi: Non commettere adulterio.
28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.	28 Ma io vi dico: chiunque avrà guardato una donna per concupiscenza, nel suo cuore ha già commesso adulterio su di lei.
29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.	29 Ora se il tuo occhio destro ti è di scandalo, cavalo e gettalo via da te: è meglio per te che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che tutto il tuo corpo sia gettato nell'inferno.
30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .	30 E se la tua mano destra ti è di scandalo, mozzala e gettala via da te, certo è meglio per te che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che ti vada tutto il corpo nell'inferno.
31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.	31 E' stato pur detto: Chiunque rimanda la propria moglie, le dia il libello del ripudio;
32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.	32 ma io vi dico: chi manda via la sua moglie, eccetto il caso di fornicazione, l'espone all'adulterio; e chi sposa la ripudiata commette adulterio.
33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.	33 Avete pure udito che fu detto agli antichi: Non spergiurare: mantieni invece i tuoi giuramenti al Signore.
34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;	34 Io però vi dico: non giurate mai, nè per il cielo, che è trono di Dio,
35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.	35 nè per la terra, che è sgabello dei suoi piedi, nè per Gerusalemme, che è la città del gran re.
36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.	36 Non giurare neppure per la tua testa, perchè non puoi far bianco o nero un sol capello.
37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.	37 Ma sia il vostro parlare: sì, sì, no, no; chè il di più vien dal maligno.
38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.	38 Avete udito che è stato detto: Occhio per occhio, dente per dente.
39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;	39 Ma io vi dico di non resistere al malvagio, anzi, a chi ti percuote nella guancia destra, porgigli anche l'altra;
40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.	40 e a chi vuol moverti lite per toglierti la tunica, cedigli anche il mantello.
41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.	41 E se uno ti angarierà per un miglio, va' con lui per altri due.
42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.	42 Da' a chi ti chiede, e non voltare le spalle a chi desidera da te in prestito.
43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.	43 Avete udito che fu detto: Amerai il tuo prossimo ed odierai il tuo nemico.
44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;	44 Ma io vi dico: amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene a coloro che vi odiano, e pregate per coloro che vi perseguitano e vi calunniano,
45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.	45 affinchè siate figli del Padre vostro che è nei cieli; il quale fa sorgere il sole sui buoni e sui cattivi e fa piovere sui giusti e sugl'ingiusti.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?	46 Chè se amate chi vi ama, quale premio ne avrete? Non fanno altrettanto anche i pubblicani?
47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?	47 E se salutate soltanto i vostri fratelli, che fate di speciale? Non fanno altrettanto i Gentili?
48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'	48 Siate adunque perfetti come è perfetto il Padre vostro celeste.
