1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.	1 ויהי כראותו את המון העם ויעל ההרה וישב שם ויגשו אליו תלמידיו
2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:	2 ויפתח את פיהו וילמד אותם לאמר
3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.	3 אשרי עניי רוח כי להם מלכות השמים
4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.	4 אשרי האבלים כי הם ינחמו
5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.	5 אשרי הענוים כי המה יירשו הארץ
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .	6 אשרי הרעבים והצמאים לצדקה כי הם ישבעו
7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.	7 אשרי הרחמנים כי הם ירחמו
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.	8 אשרי ברי לבב כי הם יחזו את האלהים
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.	9 אשרי רדפי שלום כי בני אלהים יקראו
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.	10 אשרי הנרדפים על דבר הצדקה כי להם מלכות השמים
11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.	11 אשריכם אם יחרפו וירדפו אתכם וידברו בשקר עליכם כל רע בעבורי
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.	12 שמחו וגילו כי שכרכם רב בשמים כי כן רדפו את הנביאים אשר היו לפניכם
13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.	13 אתם מלח הארץ ואם המלח היה תפל במה ימלח הן לא יצלח עוד לכל כי אם להשליך חוצה והיה מרמס לבני אדם
14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.	14 אתם אור העולם עיר ישבת על ההר לא תוכל להסתר
15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.	15 גם אין מדליקים נר ושמים אותו תחת האיפה כי אם על המנורה ויאר לכל אנשי הבית
16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.	16 כן יאר אורכם לפני בני האדם למען יראו מעשיכם הטובים ושבחו את אביכים שבשמים
17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.	17 אל תחשבו כי באתי להפר את התורה או את דברי הנביאים לא באתי להפר כי אם למלאת
18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.	18 כי אמן אמר אני לכם עד כי יעברו השמים והארץ לא תעבר יוד אחת או קוץ אחד מן התורה עד אשר יעשה הכל
19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.	19 לכן מי אשר יפר אחת מן המצות הקטנות האלה וכן ילמד את בני האדם קטון יקרא במלכות השמים ואשר יעשה וילמד אותן הוא גדול יקרא במלכות השמים
20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.	20 כי אני אמר לכם אם לא תרבה צדקתכם מצדקת הסופרים והפרושים לא תבאו אל מלכות השמים
21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.	21 שמעתם כי נאמר לקדמונים לא תרצח ואשר ירצח מחיב הוא לבית דין
22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.	22 אבל אני אמר לכם כל אשר יקצף על אחיו חנם מחיב הוא לבית דין ואשר יאמר אל אחיו רקא מחיב הוא לסנהדרין ואשר יאמר אתה הנבל מחיב לאש גיהנם
23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,	23 לכן אם תקריב קרבנך אל המזבח ושם תזכר כי יש לאחיך דבר עליך
24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.	24 עזוב תעזב שם את קרבנך לפני המזבח וקדם ללכת לכפר פני אחיך ואחרי כן בוא הקרב את קרבנך
25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.	25 מהר התרצה לאיש ריבך בעודך בדרך אתו פן יסגיר אתך איש ריבך אל השפט והשפט יסגירך לשוטר והשלכת את בית הכלא
26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.	26 אמן אמר אני לך לא תצא משם עד אשר שלמת את הפרוטה האחרונה
27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.	27 שמעתם כי נאמר לקדמונים לא תנאף
28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.	28 אבל אני אמר לכם כל אשר יביט באשה לחמד אותה נאף נאפה בלבו
29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.	29 ואם תכשילך עין ימינך נקר אותה והשלך ממך כי טוב לך אשר יאבד אחד מאבריך מרדת כל גופך אל גיהנם
30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .	30 ואם ידך הימנית תכשילך קצץ אותה והשלך ממך כי טוב לך אשר יאבד אחד מאבריך מרדת כל גופך אל גיהנם
31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.	31 ונאמר איש אשר ישלח את אשתו ונתן לה ספר כריתות
32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.	32 אבל אני אמר לכם המשלח את אשתו בלתי על דבר זנות עשה אתה נאפת והלקח את הגרושה לו לאשה נאף הוא
33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.	33 עוד שמעתם כי נאמר לקדמונים לא תשבע לשקר ושלם ליהוה שבעותיך
34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;	34 אבל אני אמר לכם לא תשבעו כל שבועה לא בשמים כי כסא אלהים המה
35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.	35 ולא בארץ כי הדום רגליו היא ולא בירושלים כי היא קרית מלך רב
36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.	36 ]73-63[ אף בראשך אל תשבע כי אין ביכלתך להפך שער אחד ללבן או לשחר אך יהי דברין הן הן לא לא והיותר מאלה מן הרע הוא
37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.	37 ]73-63[
38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.	38 שמעתם כי נאמר עין תחת עין שן תחת שן
39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;	39 אבל אני אמר לכם אל תתקוממו לרע אך המכה אותך על הלפי הימנית הטה לו גם את האחרת
40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.	40 ואשר יחפץ לריב עמך ולקחת את כתנתך תן לו גם את חמעיל
41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.	41 והאנס אותך ללכת עמו דרך מיל לך אתו שנים
42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.	42 השאל מאתך תן לו והבא ללות ממך אל תשב פניו
43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.	43 שמעתם כי נאמר ואהבת לרעך ושנאת את איבך
44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;	44 אבל אני אמר לכם אהבו את איביכם ברכו את מקקליכם היטיבו לשנאיכם והתפללו בעד מכאיביכם ורדפיכם
45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.	45 למען תהיו בנים לאביכם שבשמים אשר הוא מזריח שמשו לרעים ולטובים וממטיר על הצדיקים וגם על הרשעים
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?	46 כי אם תאהבו את אהביכם מה הוא שכרכם הלא גם המכסים יעשו זאת
47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?	47 ואם תשאלו לשלום אחיכם בלבד מה יתרון לכם הלא גם המכסים יעשו זאת
48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'	48 לכן היו שלמים כאשר אביכם שבשמים שלם הוא
