Matthew 27

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When morning came, al the chief priests and the elders of the people met in council to bring about thedeath of Jesus.	1 Le matin étant arrivé, tous les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuple tinrent un conseil contreJésus, en sorte de le faire mourir.
2 They had him bound and led him away to hand him over to Pilate, the governor.	2 Et, après l'avoir ligoté, ils l'emmenèrent et le livrèrent à Pilate le gouverneur.
3 When he found that Jesus had been condemned, then Judas, his betrayer, was fil ed with remorse andtook the thirty silver pieces back to the chief priests and elders	3 Alors Judas, qui l'avait livré, voyant qu'il avait été condamné, fut pris de remords et rapporta les30 pièces d'argent aux grands prêtres et aux anciens:
4 saying, 'I have sinned. I have betrayed innocent blood.' They replied, 'What is that to us? That is yourconcern.'	4 "J'ai péché, dit-il, en livrant un sang innocent." Mais ils dirent: "Que nous importe? A toi devoir."
5 And flinging down the silver pieces in the sanctuary he made off, and went and hanged himself.	5 Jetant alors les pièces dans le sanctuaire, il se retira et s'en alla se pendre.
6 The chief priests picked up the silver pieces and said, 'It is against the Law to put this into the treasury;it is blood-money.'	6 Ayant ramassé l'argent, les grands prêtres dirent: "Il n'est pas permis de le verser au trésor,puisque c'est le prix du sang."
7 So they discussed the matter and with it bought the potter's field as a graveyard for foreigners,	7 Après délibération, ils achetèrent avec cet argent le "champ du potier" comme lieu de sépulturepour les étrangers.
8 and this is why the field is stil cal ed the Field of Blood.	8 Voilà pourquoi ce champ-là s'est appelé jusqu'à ce jour le "Champ du Sang."
9 The word spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was then fulfil ed: And they took the thirty silverpieces, the sum at which the precious One was priced by the children of Israel,	9 Alors s'accomplit l'oracle de Jérémie le prophète: Et ils prirent les 30 pièces d'argent, le prix duPrécieux qu'ont apprécié des fils d'Israël,
10 and they gave them for the potter's field, just as the Lord directed me.	10 et ils les donnèrent pour le champ du potier, ainsi que me l'a ordonné le Seigneur.
11 Jesus, then, was brought before the governor, and the governor put to him this question, 'Are you theking of the Jews?' Jesus replied, 'It is you who say it.'	11 Jésus fut amené en présence du gouverneur et le gouverneur l'interrogea en disant: "Tu es le Roides Juifs?" Jésus répliqua: "Tu le dis."
12 But when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders he refused to answer at al .	12 Puis, tandis qu'il était accusé par les grands prêtres et les anciens, il ne répondit rien.
13 Pilate then said to him, 'Do you not hear how many charges they have made against you?'	13 Alors Pilate lui dit: "N'entends-tu pas tout ce qu'ils attestent contre toi?"
14 But to the governor's amazement, he offered not a word in answer to any of the charges.	14 Et il ne lui répondit sur aucun point, si bien que le gouverneur était fort étonné.
15 At festival time it was the governor's practice to release a prisoner for the people, anyone they chose.	15 A chaque Fête, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher à la foule un prisonnier, celui qu'ellevoulait.
16 Now there was then a notorious prisoner whose name was Barabbas.	16 On avait alors un prisonnier fameux, nommé Barabbas.
17 So when the crowd gathered, Pilate said to them, 'Which do you want me to release for you:Barabbas, or Jesus who is cal ed Christ?'	17 Pilate dit donc aux gens qui se trouvaient rassemblés: "Lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche,Barabbas, ou Jésus que l'on appelle Christ?"
18 For Pilate knew it was out of jealousy that they had handed him over.	18 Il savait bien que c'était par jalousie qu'on l'avait livré.
19 Now as he was seated in the chair of judgement, his wife sent him a message, 'Have nothing to dowith that upright man; I have been extremely upset today by a dream that I had about him.'	19 Or, tandis qu'il siégeait au tribunal, sa femme lui fit dire: "Ne te mêle point de l'affaire de cejuste; car aujourd'hui j'ai été très affectée dans un songe à cause de lui."
20 The chief priests and the elders, however, had persuaded the crowd to demand the release ofBarabbas and the execution of Jesus.	20 Cependant, les grands prêtres et les anciens persuadèrent aux foules de réclamer Barabbas et deperdre Jésus.
21 So when the governor spoke and asked them, 'Which of the two do you want me to release for you?'they said, 'Barabbas.'	21 Prenant la parole, le gouverneur leur dit: "Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche?" Ilsdirent: "Barabbas."
22 Pilate said to them, 'But in that case, what am I to do with Jesus who is cal ed Christ?' They al said,'Let him be crucified!'	22 Pilate leur dit: "Que ferai-je donc de Jésus que l'on appelle Christ?" Ils disent tous: "Qu'il soitcrucifié!"
23 He asked, 'But what harm has he done?' But they shouted all the louder, 'Let him be crucified!'	23 Il reprit: "Quel mal a-t-il donc fait?" Mais ils criaient plus fort: "Qu'il soit crucifié!"
24 Then Pilate saw that he was making no impression, that in fact a riot was imminent. So he took somewater, washed his hands in front of the crowd and said, 'I am innocent of this man's blood. It is your concern.'	24 Voyant alors qu'il n'aboutissait à rien, mais qu'il s'ensuivait plutôt du tumulte, Pilate prit de l'eauet se lava les mains en présence de la foule, en disant: "Je ne suis pas responsable de ce sang; à vous de voir!"
25 And the people, every one of them, shouted back, 'Let his blood be on us and on our children!'	25 Et tout le peuple répondit: "Que son sang soit sur nous et sur nos enfants!"
26 Then he released Barabbas for them. After having Jesus scourged he handed him over to becrucified.	26 Alors il leur relâcha Barabbas; quant à Jésus, après l'avoir fait flageller, il le livra pour êtrecrucifié.
27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus with them into the Praetorium and col ected the whole cohortround him.	27 Alors les soldats du gouverneur prirent avec eux Jésus dans le Prétoire et ameutèrent sur luitoute la cohorte.
28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak round him,	28 L'ayant dévêtu, ils lui mirent une chlamyde écarlate,
29 and having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head and placed a reed in his righthand. To make fun of him they knelt to him saying, 'Hail, king of the Jews!'	29 puis, ayant tressé une couronne avec des épines, ils la placèrent sur sa tête, avec un roseau danssa main droite. Et, s'agenouillant devant lui, ils se moquèrent de lui en disant: "Salut, roi des Juifs!"
30 And they spat on him and took the reed and struck him on the head with it.	30 et, crachant sur lui, ils prenaient le roseau et en frappaient sa tête.
31 And when they had finished making fun of him, they took off the cloak and dressed him in his ownclothes and led him away to crucifixion.	31 Puis, quand ils se furent moqués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent la chlamyde, lui remirent ses vêtements etl'emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
32 On their way out, they came across a man from Cyrene, cal ed Simon, and enlisted him to carry hiscross.	32 En sortant, ils trouvèrent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, et le requirent pour porter sacroix.
33 When they had reached a place cal ed Golgotha, that is, the place of the skul ,	33 Arrivés à un lieu dit Golgotha, c'est-à-dire lieu dit du Crâne,
34 they gave him wine to drink mixed with gal , which he tasted but refused to drink.	34 ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé de fiel; il en goûta et n'en voulut point boire.
35 When they had finished crucifying him they shared out his clothing by casting lots,	35 Quand ils l'eurent crucifié, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements en tirant au sort.
36 and then sat down and stayed there keeping guard over him.	36 Puis, s'étant assis, ils restaient là à le garder.
37 Above his head was placed the charge against him; it read: 'This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.'	37 Ils placèrent aussi au-dessus de sa tête le motif de sa condamnation ainsi libellé: "Celui-ci estJésus, le roi des Juifs."
38 Then two bandits were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.	38 Alors sont crucifiés avec lui deux brigands, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche.
39 The passers-by jeered at him; they shook their heads	39 Les passants l'injuriaient en hochant la tête
40 and said, 'So you would destroy the Temple and in three days rebuild it! Then save yourself if you areGod's son and come down from the cross!'	40 et disant: "Toi qui détruis le Sanctuaire et en trois jours le rebâtis, sauve-toi toi-même, si tu esfils de Dieu, et descends de la croix!"
41 The chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him in the same way,	41 Pareillement les grands prêtres se gaussaient et disaient avec les scribes et les anciens:
42 with the words, 'He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the king of Israel; let him come downfrom the cross now, and we wil believe in him.	42 "Il en a sauvé d'autres et il ne peut se sauver lui-même! Il est roi d'Israël: qu'il descendemaintenant de la croix et nous croirons en lui!
43 He has put his trust in God; now let God rescue him if he wants him. For he did say, "I am God'sson." '	43 Il a compté sur Dieu; que Dieu le délivre maintenant, s'il s'intéresse à lui! Il a bien dit: Je suisfils de Dieu!"
44 Even the bandits who were crucified with him taunted him in the same way.	44 Même les brigands crucifiés avec lui l'outrageaient de la sorte.
45 From the sixth hour there was darkness over al the land until the ninth hour.	45 A partir de la sixième heure, l'obscurité se fit sur toute la terre, jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'MyGod, my God, why have you forsaken me?'	46 Et vers la neuvième heure, Jésus clama en un grand cri: "Eli, Eli, lema sabachtani", c'est-à-dire:"Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'as-tu abandonné?"
47 When some of those who stood there heard this, they said, 'The man is cal ing on Elijah,'	47 Certains de ceux qui se tenaient là disaient en l'entendant: "Il appelle Elie, celui-ci!"
48 and one of them quickly ran to get a sponge which he fil ed with vinegar and, putting it on a reed,gave it him to drink.	48 Et aussitôt l'un d'eux courut prendre une éponge qu'il imbiba de vinaigre et, l'ayant mise au boutd'un roseau, il lui donnait à boire.
49 But the rest of them said, 'Wait! And see if Elijah wil come to save him.'	49 Mais les autres lui dirent: "Laisse! que nous voyions si Elie va venir le sauver!"
50 But Jesus, again crying out in a loud voice, yielded up his spirit.	50 Or Jésus, poussant de nouveau un grand cri, rendit l'esprit.
51 And suddenly, the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, therocks were split,	51 Et voilà que le voile du Sanctuaire se déchira en deux, du haut en bas; la terre trembla, lesrochers se fendirent,
52 the tombs opened and the bodies of many holy people rose from the dead,	52 les tombeaux s'ouvrirent et de nombreux corps de saints trépassés ressuscitèrent:
53 and these, after his resurrection, came out of the tombs, entered the holy city and appeared to anumber of people.	53 ils sortirent des tombeaux après sa résurrection, entrèrent dans la Ville sainte et se firent voir àbien des gens.
54 The centurion, together with the others guarding Jesus, had seen the earthquake and al that wastaking place, and they were terrified and said, 'In truth this man was son of God.'	54 Quant au centurion et aux hommes qui avec lui gardaient Jésus, à la vue du séisme et de ce quise passait, ils furent saisis d'une grande frayeur et dirent: "Vraiment celui-ci était fils de Dieu!"
55 And many women were there, watching from a distance, the same women who had followed Jesusfrom Galilee and looked after him.	55 Il y avait là de nombreuses femmes qui regardaient à distance, celles-là même qui avaient suiviJésus depuis la Galilée et le servaient,
56 Among them were Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother ofZebedee's sons.	56 entre autres Marie de Magdala, Marie, mère de Jacques et de Joseph, et la mère des fils deZébédée.
57 When it was evening, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, cal ed Joseph, who had himself becomea disciple of Jesus.	57 Le soir venu, il vint un homme riche d'Arimathie, du nom de Joseph, qui s'était fait, lui aussi,disciple de Jésus.
58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.	58 Il alla trouver Pilate et réclama le corps de Jésus. Alors Pilate ordonna qu'on le lui remît.
59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean shroud	59 Joseph prit donc le corps, le roula dans un linceul propre
60 and put it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock. He then rol ed a large stoneacross the entrance of the tomb and went away.	60 et le mit dans le tombeau neuf qu'il s'était fait tailler dans le roc; puis il roula une grande pierre àl'entrée du tombeau et s'en alla.
61 Now Mary of Magdala and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulchre.	61 Or il y avait là Marie de Magdala et l'autre Marie, assises en face du sépulcre.
62 Next day, that is, when Preparation Day was over, the chief priests and the Pharisees went in a bodyto Pilate	62 Le lendemain, c'est-à-dire après la Préparation, les grands prêtres et les Pharisiens se rendirenten corps chez Pilate
63 and said to him, 'Your Excel ency, we recal that this impostor said, while he was still alive, "Afterthree days I shall rise again."	63 et lui dirent: "Seigneur, nous nous sommes souvenus que cet imposteur a dit, de son vivant:Après trois jours je ressusciterai!
64 Therefore give the order to have the sepulchre kept secure until the third day, for fear his disciplescome and steal him away and tel the people, "He has risen from the dead." This last piece of fraud would beworse than what went before.'	64 Commande donc que le sépulcre soit tenu en sûreté jusqu'au troisième jour, pour éviter que sesdisciples ne viennent le dérober et ne disent au peuple: Il est ressuscité des morts! Cette dernière imposture seraitpire que la première."
65 Pilate said to them, 'You may have your guard; go and make al as secure as you know how.'	65 Pilate leur répondit: "Vous avez une garde; allez et prenez vos sûretés comme vous l'entendez."
66 So they went and made the sepulchre secure, putting seals on the stone and mounting a guard.	66 Ils allèrent donc et s'assurèrent du sépulcre, en scellant la pierre et en postant une garde.
