Matthew 2

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 After Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in Judaea during the reign of King Herod, suddenly some wisemen came to Jerusalem from the east	1 ORA, essendo Gesù nato in Betleem di Giudea, a’ dì del re Erode, ecco, de’ magi d’Oriente arrivarono in Gerusalemme, dicendo:
2 asking, 'Where is the infant king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose and have come to do himhomage.'	2 Dov’è il Re de’ Giudei, che è nato? Poichè noi abbiamo veduta la sua stella in Oriente, e siam venuti per adorarlo.
3 When King Herod heard this he was perturbed, and so was the whole of Jerusalem.	3 E il re Erode, udito questo, fu turbato, e tutta Gerusalemme con lui.
4 He called together al the chief priests and the scribes of the people, and enquired of them where theChrist was to be born.	4 Ed egli, raunati tutti i principali sacerdoti, e gli scribi del popolo, s’informò da loro dove il Cristo dovea nascere.
5 They told him, 'At Bethlehem in Judaea, for this is what the prophet wrote:	5 Ed essi gli dissero: In Betleem di Giudea; perciocchè così è scritto per lo profeta:
6 And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the leaders of Judah,for from you wil come a leader who wil shepherd my people Israel.'	6 E tu, Betleem, terra di Giuda, non sei punto la minima fra i capi di Giuda; perciocchè di te uscirà un Capo, il qual pascerà il mio popolo Israele.
7 Then Herod summoned the wise men to see him privately. He asked them the exact date on which thestar had appeared	7 Allora Erode, chiamati di nascosto i magi, domandò loro del tempo appunto, che la stella era apparita.
8 and sent them on to Bethlehem with the words, 'Go and find out all about the child, and when you havefound him, let me know, so that I too may go and do him homage.'	8 E, mandandoli in Betleem, disse loro: Andate, e domandate diligentemente del fanciullino; e quando l’avrete trovato, rapportatemelo, acciocchè ancora io venga, e l’adori
9 Having listened to what the king had to say, they set out. And suddenly the star they had seen risingwent forward and halted over the place where the child was.	9 Ed essi, udito il re, andarono; ed ecco, la stella che aveano veduta in Oriente, andava dinanzi a loro, finchè giunta di sopra al luogo dov’era il fanciullino, vi si fermò.
10 The sight of the star fil ed them with delight,	10 Ed essi, veduta la stella, si rallegrarono di grandissima allegrezza.
11 and going into the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and fal ing to their knees they didhim homage. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.	11 Ed entrati nella casa, trovarono il fanciullino, con Maria, sua madre; e gettatisi in terra, adorarono quello; ed aperti i lor tesori, gli offerirono doni: oro, incenso, e mirra.
12 But they were given a warning in a dream not to go back to Herod, and returned to their own countryby a different way.	12 Ed avendo avuta una rivelazione divina in sogno, di non tornare ad Erode, per un’altra strada si ridussero nel lor paese
13 After they had left, suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, 'Get up,take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tel you, because Herodintends to search for the child and do away with him.'	13 ORA, dopo che si furono dipartiti, ecco, un angelo del Signore apparve in sogno a Giuseppe, dicendo: Destati, e prendi il fanciullino, e sua madre, e fuggi in Egitto, e sta’ quivi finch’io non tel dica; perciocchè Erode cercherà il fanciullino, per farlo morire.
14 So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, left that night for Egypt,	14 Egli adunque, destatosi, prese il fanciullino, e sua madre, di notte, e si ritrasse in Egitto.
15 where he stayed until Herod was dead. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through theprophet: I cal ed my son out of Egypt.	15 E stette quivi fino alla morte di Erode; acciocchè si adempiesse quello che fu detto dal Signore per lo profeta, dicendo: Io ho chiamato il mio figliuolo fuori di Egitto
16 Herod was furious on realising that he had been fooled by the wise men, and in Bethlehem and itssurrounding district he had al the male children killed who were two years old or less, reckoning by the date hehad been careful to ask the wise men.	16 Allora Erode, veggendosi beffato dai magi, si adirò gravemente, e mandò a fare uccidere tutti i fanciulli che erano in Betleem, ed in tutti i suoi confini, d’età da due anni in giù, secondo il tempo, del quale egli si era diligentemente informato da’ magi.
17 Then were fulfilled the words spoken through the prophet Jeremiah:	17 Allora si adempiè quello che fu detto dal profeta Geremia, dicendo:
18 A voice is heard in Ramah, lamenting and weeping bitterly: it is Rachel weeping for her children,refusing to be comforted because they are no more.	18 Un grido è stato udito in Rama, un lamento, un pianto, ed un gran rammarichìo; Rachele piange i suoi figliuoli, e non è voluta esser consolata, perciocchè non son più
19 After Herod's death, suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt	19 ORA, dopo che Erode fu morto, ecco, un angelo del Signore apparve in sogno a Giuseppe, in Egitto, dicendo:
20 and said, 'Get up, take the child and his mother with you and go back to the land of Israel, for thosewho wanted to kil the child are dead.'	20 Destati, e prendi il fanciullino, e sua madre, e vattene nel paese d’Israele; perciocchè coloro che cercavano la vita del fanciullino son morti.
21 So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, went back to the land of Israel.	21 Ed egli, destatosi, prese il fanciullino, e sua madre, e venne nel paese d’Israele.
22 But when he learnt that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as ruler of Judaea he was afraid togo there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the region of Galilee.	22 Ma, avendo udito che Archelao regnava in Giudea, in luogo di Erode, suo padre, temette di andar là; ed avendo avuta una rivelazione divina in sogno, si ritrasse nelle parti della Galilea.
23 There he settled in a town cal ed Nazareth. In this way the words spoken through the prophets were tobe fulfil ed: He wil be cal ed a Nazarene.	23 Ed essendo venuto là, abitò in una città detta Nazaret, acciocchè si adempiesse quello che fu detto da’ profeti, ch’egli sarebbe chiamato Nazareo
