Matthew 18

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'	1 In quel tempo si avvicinarono a Gesù i discepoli per dirgli: "Chi è dunque il più grande nel regno dei cieli?".
2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.	2 Egli, chiamato a sé un fanciullo, lo pose in mezzo a loro
3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.	3 e disse: "In verità vi dico: se non vi convertirete e non diventerete come i fanciulli, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.
4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.	4 Chi dunque si farà piccolo come questo fanciullo, questi sarà il più grande nel regno dei cieli.
5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.	5 Se uno accoglie un solo fanciullo come questo nel mio nome, accoglie me".
6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.	6 "Ma se uno sarà di scandalo a uno di questi piccoli che credono in me, è meglio per lui che gli sia legata al collo una mola asinaria e sia precipitato nel fondo del mare.
7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!	7 Guai al mondo per gli scandali! Infatti, se è inevitabile che avvengano scandali, guai però a quell'uomo per mezzo del quale avviene lo scandalo.
8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.	8 Se la tua mano o il tuo piede ti è di scandalo, taglialo e gettalo via da te. E' meglio per te entrare nella vita monco o zoppo, che con due mani o due piedi essere gettato nel fuoco eterno.
9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.	9 E se il tuo occhio ti è di scandalo, càvalo e gèttalo via da te; è meglio per te entrare nella vita con un solo occhio, che essere gettato con due occhi nella Geenna del fuoco.
10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.	10 Guardatevi dal disprezzare uno di questi piccoli, poiché vi dico che i loro angeli nei cieli contemplano continuamente il volto del Padre mio che è nei cieli".
11	11 "Infatti, il Figlio dell'uomo è venuto a trarre in salvo ciò che era perito.
12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?	12 Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e una di esse si smarrisce, non lascia le novantanove sui monti e va in cerca di quella smarrita?
13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .	13 E se gli capita di trovarla, in verità vi dico: si rallegrerà per essa più che delle altre novantanove che non si erano smarrite.
14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.	14 Proprio questo è il volere del Padre vostro che è nei cieli: che neanche uno di questi piccoli si perda".
15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.	15 "Se il tuo fratello pecca, va', riprendilo fra te e lui solo; se ti ascolterà, avrai riacquistato il tuo fratello.
16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.	16 Se invece non ti ascolterà, prendi con te una o due persone, affinché sulla bocca di due o tre testimoni si stabilisca ogni cosa.
17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.	17 Se non ascolterà neppure loro, deferiscilo alla chiesa e se neppure alla chiesa darà ascolto, sia egli per te come il pagano e il pubblicano.
18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.	18 In verità vi dico: tutto ciò che avrete legato sulla terra resterà legato nel cielo; e tutto ciò che avrete sciolto sulla terra resterà sciolto nel cielo".
19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.	19 "Ancora: in verità vi dico che, se due di voi sulla terra saranno d'accordo su qualche cosa da chiedere, qualunque essa sia, sarà loro concessa dal Padre mio che è nei cieli.
20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'	20 Infatti, dove sono riuniti due o tre nel mio nome, ivi sono io, in mezzo a loro".
21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'	21 Allora Pietro si fece avanti e gli domandò: "Signore, quante volte, se il mio fratello peccherà contro di me, dovrò perdonargli? Fino a sette volte?".
22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.	22 Gesù gli rispose: "Non ti dico fino a sette volte, ma fino a settanta volte sette".
23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.	23 "Per questo il regno dei cieli è paragonato a un re che volle fare i conti con i suoi servi.
24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;	24 Iniziando dunque a chiedere i conti, gli fu presentato uno che era debitore di diecimila talenti.
25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.	25 Poiché costui non poteva pagare, il padrone comandò che fossero venduti lui, la moglie, i figli e quanto possedeva e saldasse così il conto.
26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."	26 Allora quel servo, con la faccia per terra, lo supplicava dicendo: "Signore, sii benevolo con me e ti soddisferò in tutto".
27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.	27 Il padrone fu mosso a pietà di quel servo, lo lasciò libero e gli condonò il debito.
28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."	28 Ora, appena uscito, lo stesso servo s'imbatté in uno dei suoi compagni il quale gli doveva cento denari. Lo afferrò e, quasi strozzandolo, diceva: "Rendimi quanto mi devi".
29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."	29 Bocconi a terra, questi lo implorava dicendo: "Sii benevolo con me e ti soddisferò".
30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.	30 Egli non acconsentì, ma andò a farlo gettare in prigione finché non gli avesse pagato il debito.
31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.	31 Venuti a conoscenza dell'accaduto, gli altri servi se ne rattristarono grandemente e andarono a riferire ogni cosa al loro padrone.
32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.	32 Allora il padrone, chiamatolo a sé, gli dice: "Servo malvagio, ti ho condonato tutto quel debito perché mi avevi supplicato;
33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"	33 non dovevi anche tu aver pietà del tuo compagno, come io ho avuto pietà di te?".
34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.	34 Preso perciò dall'ira, il padrone lo consegnò agli sbirri, finché non gli avesse restituito tutto ciò che gli doveva.
35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'	35 Proprio così il Padre mio celeste tratterà voi, qualora non rimettiate di cuore ciascuno al proprio fratello".
