Matthew 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'	1 En aquel momento se acercaron a Jesús los discípulos y le dijeron: «¿Quién es, pues, el mayor en el Reino de los Cielos?»
2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.	2 El llamó a un niño, le puso en medio de ellos
3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.	3 y dijo: «Yo os aseguro: si no cambiáis y os hacéis como los niños, no entraréis en el Reino de los Cielos.
4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.	4 Así pues, quien se haga pequeño como este niño, ése es el mayor en el Reino de los Cielos.
5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.	5 «Y el que reciba a un niño como éste en mi nombre, a mí me recibe.
6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.	6 Pero al que escandalice a uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, más le vale que le cuelguen al cuello una de esas piedras de molino que mueven los asnos, y le hundan en lo profundo del mar.
7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!	7 ¡Ay del mundo por los escándalos! Es forzoso, ciertamente, que vengan escándalos, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el escándalo viene!
8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.	8 «Si, pues, tu mano o tu pie te es ocasión de pecado, córtatelo y arrójalo de ti; más te vale entrar en la Vida manco o cojo que, con las dos manos o los dos pies, ser arrojado en el fuego eterno.
9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.	9 Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de pecado, sácatelo y arrójalo de ti; más te vale entrar en la Vida con un solo ojo que, con los dos ojos, ser arrojado a la gehenna del fuego.
10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.	10 «Guardaos de menospreciar a uno de estos pequeños; porque yo os digo que sus ángeles, en los cielos, ven continuamente el rostro de mi Padre que está en los cielos.

12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?	12 ¿Qué os parece? Si un hombre tiene cien ovejas y se le descarría una de ellas, ¿no dejará en los montes las noventa y nueve, para ir en busca de la descarriada?
13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .	13 Y si llega a encontrarla, os digo de verdad que tiene más alegría por ella que por las 99 no descarriadas.
14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.	14 De la misma manera, no es voluntad de vuestro Padre celestial que se pierda uno solo de estos pequeños.
15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.	15 «Si tu hermano llega a pecar, vete y repréndele, a solas tú con él. Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano.
16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.	16 Si no te escucha, toma todavía contigo uno o dos, para que todo asunto quede zanjado por la palabra de dos o tres testigos.
17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.	17 Si les desoye a ellos, díselo a la comunidad. Y si hasta a la comunidad desoye, sea para ti como el gentil y el publicano.
18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.	18 «Yo os aseguro: todo lo que atéis en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desatéis en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo.
19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.	19 «Os aseguro también que si dos de vosotros se ponen de acuerdo en la tierra para pedir algo, sea lo que fuere, lo conseguirán de mi Padre que está en los cielos.
20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'	20 Porque donde están dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos».
21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'	21 Pedro se acercó entonces y le dijo: «Señor, ¿cuántas veces tengo que perdonar las ofensas que me haga mi hermano? ¿Hasta siete veces?»
22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.	22 Dícele Jesús: «No te digo hasta siete veces, sino hasta setenta veces siete».
23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.	23 «Por eso el Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un rey que quiso ajustar cuentas con sus siervos.
24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;	24 Al empezar a ajustarlas, le fue presentado uno que le debía 10.000 talentos.
25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.	25 Como no tenía con qué pagar, ordenó el señor que fuese vendido él, su mujer y sus hijos y todo cuanto tenía, y que se le pagase.
26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."	26 Entonces el siervo se echó a sus pies, y postrado le decía: “Ten paciencia conmigo, que todo te lo pagaré.”
27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.	27 Movido a compasión el señor de aquel siervo, le dejó en libertad y le perdonó la deuda.
28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."	28 Al salir de allí aquel siervo se encontró con uno de sus compañeros, que le debía cien denarios; le agarró y, ahogándole, le decía: “Paga lo que debes.”
29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."	29 Su compañero, cayendo a sus pies, le suplicaba: “Ten paciencia conmigo, que ya te pagaré.”
30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.	30 Pero él no quiso, sino que fue y le echó en la cárcel, hasta que pagase lo que debía.
31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.	31 Al ver sus compañeros lo ocurrido, se entristecieron mucho, y fueron a contar a su señor todo lo sucedido.
32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.	32 Su señor entonces le mandó llamar y le dijo: “Siervo malvado, yo te perdoné a ti toda aquella deuda porque me lo suplicaste.
33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"	33 ¿No debías tú también compadecerte de tu compañero, del mismo modo que yo me compadecí de ti?”
34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.	34 Y encolerizado su señor, le entregó a los verdugos hasta que pagase todo lo que le debía.
35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'	35 Esto mismo hará con vosotros mi Padre celestial, si no perdonáis de corazón cada uno a vuestro hermano».
