Matthew 18

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'	1 En aquel momento los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús para preguntarle: «¿Quién es el más grande en el Reino de los Cielos?».
2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.	2 Jesús llamó a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos
3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.	3 y dijo: «Les aseguro que si ustedes no cambian o no se hacen como niños, no entrarán en el Reino de los Cielos.
4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.	4 Por lo tanto, el que se haga pequeño como este niño, será el más grande en el Reino de los Cielos.
5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.	5 El que recibe a uno de estos pequeños en mi Nombre, me recibe a mí mismo.
6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.	6 Pero si alguien escandaliza a uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, sería preferible para él que le ataran al cuello una piedra de moler y lo hundieran en el fondo del mar.
7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!	7 ¡Ay del mundo a causa de los escándalos! Es inevitable que existan pero ¡ay de aquel que los causa!
8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.	8 Si tu mano o tu pie son para ti ocasión de pecado, córtalos y arrójalos lejos de ti, porque más te vale entrar en la Vida manco o lisiado, que ser arrojado con tus dos manos o tus pies en el fuego eterno.
9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.	9 Y si tu ojo es para ti ocasión de pecado, arráncalo y tíralo lejos, porque más te vale entrar con un solo ojo en la Vida, que ser arrojado con tus dos ojos en la Gehena del fuego.
10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.	10 Cuídense de despreciar a cualquiera de estos pequeños, porque les aseguro que sus ángeles en el cielo están constantemente en presencia de mi Padre celestial.
11	11 [Porque el Hijo del Hombre ha venido a salvar lo que estaba perdido].
12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?	12 ¿Qué les parece? Si un hombre tiene cien ovejas, y una de ellas se pierde, ¿no deja las noventa y nueve restantes en la montaña, para ir a buscar la que se extravió?
13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .	13 Y si llega a encontrarla, les aseguro que se alegrará más por ella que por las noventa y nueve que no se extraviaron.
14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.	14 De la misma manera, el Padre que está en el cielo no quiere que se pierda ni uno solo de estos pequeños.
15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.	15 Si tu hermano peca, ve y corrígelo en privado. Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano.
16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.	16 Si no te escucha, busca una o dos personas más, para que el asunto se decida por la declaración de dos o tres testigos.
17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.	17 Si se niega a hacerles caso, dilo a la comunidad. Y si tampoco quiere escuchar a la comunidad, considéralo como pagano o republicano.
18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.	18 Les aseguro que todo lo que ustedes aten en la tierra, quedará atado en el cielo, y lo que desaten en la tierra, quedará desatado en el cielo.
19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.	19 También les aseguro que si dos de ustedes se unen en la tierra para pedir algo, mi Padre que está en el cielo se lo concederá.
20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'	20 Porque donde hay dos o tres reunidos en mi Nombre, yo estoy presente en medio de ellos».
21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'	21 Entonces se adelantó Pedro y le dijo: «Señor, ¿cuántas veces tendré que perdonar a mi hermano las ofensas que me haga? ¿Hasta siete veces?».
22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.	22 Jesús le respondió: «No te digo hasta siete veces, sino hasta setenta veces siete.
23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.	23 Por eso, el Reino de los Cielos se parece a un rey que quiso arreglar las cuentas con sus servidores.
24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;	24 Comenzada la tarea, le presentaron a uno que debía diez mil talentos.
25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.	25 Como no podía pagar, el rey mandó que fuera vendido junto con su mujer, sus hijos y todo lo que tenía, para saldar la deuda.
26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."	26 El servidor se arrojó a sus pies, diciéndole: "Señor, dame un plazo y te pagaré todo".
27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.	27 El rey se compadeció, lo dejó ir y, además, le perdonó la deuda.
28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."	28 Al salir, este servidor encontró a uno de sus compañeros que le debía cien denarios y, tomándolo del cuello hasta ahogarlo, le dijo: "Págame lo que me debes".
29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."	29 El otro se arrojó a sus pies y le suplicó: "Dame un plazo y te pagaré la deuda".
30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.	30 Pero él no quiso, sino que lo hizo poner en la cárcel hasta que pagara lo que debía.
31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.	31 Los demás servidores, al ver lo que había sucedido, se apenaron mucho y fueron a contarlo a su señor.
32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.	32 Este lo mandó llamar y le dijo: "¡Miserable! Me suplicaste, y te perdoné la deuda.
33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"	33 ¿No debías también tú tener compasión de tu compañero, como yo me compadecí de ti?".
34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.	34 E indignado, el rey lo entregó en manos de los verdugos hasta que pagara todo lo que debía.
35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'	35 Lo mismo hará también mi Padre celestial con ustedes, si no perdonan de corazón a sus hermanos».
