Matthew 18

1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'	1 Nel tempo stesso si appressarono a Gesù i discepoli, e gli dissero: Chi è mai il più grande nel regno de' cieli?
2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.	2 E Gesù chiamato a se un fanciullo, lo pose in mezzo di essi.
3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.	3 E disse: In verità vi dico, che, se non vi convertirete, e non diventerete come fanciulli, non entrerete nel regno de' cieli.
4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.	4 Chiunque pertanto si farà piccolo, come questo fanciullo, quegli sarà il più grande nel regno de' cieli.
5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.	5 E chiunque accoglierà nel nome mio un fanciullo come questo, accoglie me stesso.
6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.	6 Chi poi scandalizzerà alcuno di questi piccolini, che credono in me, meglio per lui sarebbe, che gli fosse appesa al collo una macina da asino, e che fosse sommerso nel profondo del mare.
7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!	7 Guai al mondo per causa degli scandali. Imperocché necessaria cosa è, che sianvi degli scandali: ma guai all'uomo, per colpa del quale viene lo scandalo.
8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.	8 Che se la tua mano, o il tuo piede ti serve di scandalo, troncagli, e gettali via da te: è meglio per te di giugnere alla vita con un piede, o una mano di meno, che con tutte due le mani, e con tutti due i piedi esser gettato nel fuoco eterno.
9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.	9 E se l'occhio tuo ti serve di scandalo, cavatelo, e gettalo via da te: è meglio per te l'entrar nella vita con un sol occhio, che con due occhi esser gettato nel fuoco dell'inferno.
10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.	10 Guardatevi dal disprezzare alcuno di questi piccoli: conciossiachè io vi fo sapere, che i loro Angioli ne' cieli vedono perpetuamente il volto del Padre mio, che è ne' cieli.
11	11 Imperocché il Figliuolo dell'uomo è venuto a salvare quel, che si era perduto.
12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?	12 Che ve ne pare? se un uomo bacento pecore, e una di queste si smarrisce, non abbandona egli le altre novantanove, e sen va per li monti in cerca di quella, che si è smarrita?
13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .	13 E se gli venga fatto di ritrovarla: in verità vi dico, che più si rallegra di questa, che delle novantanove, che non si erano smarrite.
14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.	14 Così non è volere del Padre vostro, che è ne' cieli, che un solo perisca di questi piccoli.
15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.	15 Che se il tuo fratello abbia commesso mancamento contro di te, va, e correggilo tra te, e lui solo. Se egli ti ascolta, hai guadagnato il tuo fratello.
16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.	16 Se poi non ti ascolta, prendi ancora teco una, o due persone, affinchè col detto di due, o tre testimonj si stabilisca lutto l'affare.
17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.	17 Che se non farà caso di essi, fallo sapere alla Chiesa. E se non ascolta nemmen la Chiesa, abbilo come per gentile, e per pubblicano.
18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.	18 In verità vi dico: Tutto quello, che legherete sulla terra, sarà legato anche nel cielo: e tutto quello, che scioglierete su la terra,sarà sciolto anche nel cielo.
19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.	19 Vi dico ancora, che se due di voi si accorderanno sopra la terra a domandare qualsisia cosa, sarà loro concessa dal Padre mio, che è ne' cieli.
20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'	20 Imperocché dove sono due, o tre persone congregate nel nome mio, quivi sono io in mezzo di esse.
21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'	21 Allora accostatosi a lui Pietro gli disse: Signore, fino a quante volte peccando il mio fratello contro di me, gli perdonerò io? fino a sette volte?
22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.	22 Gesù gli rispose: Non ti dico fino a sette volte; ma fino a settanta volte sette volte.
23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.	23 Per questo il regno de' cieli si assomiglia ad un re, il quale volle fare i conti co' suoi servi.
24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;	24 E avendo principiato a riveder la ragione, gli fu presentato uno, che gli andava debitore di dieci mila talenti.
25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.	25 E non avendo costui il modo di pagare, comandò il padrone, che fosse venduto lui, e sua moglie, e i figliuoli, e quanto aveva, e si saldasse il debito,
26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."	26 Ma il servo prostrato lo supplicava cui dire: Abbi meco pazienza, e ti soddisfarò interamente.
27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.	27 Mosso il padrone a pietà di quel servo lo liberò condonandogli il debito.
28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."	28 Ma partito di li il servo trovò uno de' suoi conservi, che gli doveva cento danari: e presolo per la gola, lo strozzava dicendo: Pagami quello, che devi.
29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."	29 E il conservo prostrato ai suoi piedi lo supplicava, dicendo: Abbi meco pazienza, e io ti soddisfarò interamente.
30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.	30 Ma quegli non volle; e andò a farlo mettere in prigione, fino a tanto che l'avesse soddisfatto.
31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.	31 Ma avendo gli altri conservi veduto tal fatto, grandemente se ne attristarono: e andarono, e riferirono al padrone tutta quel, che era avvenuto.
32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.	32 Allora il padrone lo chiamò a se, e gli disse: Servo iniquo, io ti ho condonato tutto quel debito, perché ti sei a me raccomandato:
33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"	33 Non dovevi adunque anche tu aver pietà d'un tuo conservo, come io ho avuto pietà di te?
34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.	34 E sdegnato il padrone lo dette in mano de' carnefici, perfino a tanto che avesse pagato tutto il debito.
35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'	35 Nella stessa guisa farà con voi il mio Padre celeste, se di cuore non perdonerete ciascheduno al proprio fratello.
